I haven't mopped my bedroom floor for 10 years

This is true.

I have obviously hoovered it. (Having said that, hoovering is only once every 6 weeks or so)

The thing I hate is having to move all the furniture around. Under the bed is harboured with dust, but who even goes under their bed anyway, right?

I was going to ask if this was really disgusting but now I'm looking at it in black and white.. I think I already know the answer..

How often do you properly mop/hand clean your wooden floor?

Honestly about 4 times a year…. I hoover about once a week.

Sprig1 · 19/08/2023 20:39

I have never done mine, why would you? Vacuuming is fine.

HermioneWeasley · 19/08/2023 20:40

Wooden floors are cleaned with a special treatment every fortnight but they’re downstream so get much harder use than a bedroom

Badbudgeter · 19/08/2023 20:40

I think hoovering is fine unless there are spills. Bonus laziness points for robot hoovers which do under the furniture for you.

wednesdayadamsontuesday · 19/08/2023 20:42

To the PP who asked why would I...

You can tell it hasn't been cleaned properly. You just can. If I walk on it barefoot (which I don't as I'm always in slippers) it feels ... almost greasy (?) I don't know how to describe it . It's pretty gross tbh

Because it's not clean not to?
I hoover and mop my bedroom floors once a week.

Keroppi · 19/08/2023 20:45

Once a week I mop the downstairs. Spray mop in-between as needed (spills, visitors, wanting a nice smell) Upstairs is all carpet bar the bathroom, which is tiny, so I just spray mop or use a floor wipe.

I would probably do roughly the same if I had wooden floors upstairs too.. As I like the routine of a "mop day"

But as long as no food upstairs a hoover and a quick spray mop occasionally would suffice imo. Would not bother moving furniture etc
I love my air purifiers in the bedroom tho definitely cuts down on dust imo

CatsOnTheChair · 19/08/2023 20:52

When we had hard floors in bedrooms, I would hoover weekly. Pull out furniture every 6/8 weeks to vacuum there, and usually mop at that point.
Livingroom/kitchen got mopped more frequently.

floribunda18 · 19/08/2023 21:00

Mine is carpet - funnily enough I've never mopped it 😀

DogDream · 19/08/2023 21:00

I mop sporadically so I like the white socks test: If I can wear white socks around the house without the bottoms getting marked then I know I’m doing bloody excellent, if they get dirty then I know it’s time to mop.

continentallentil · 19/08/2023 21:02

I think hoovering regularly thr occasional mop (when you notice it isn’t clean, or every months if you are on it) is going to be more than fine.

It’s not a sitting room.

maddiemookins16mum · 19/08/2023 21:04

We have a partially laminated bedroom floor, it gets a mop every Saturday after I’ve done the bathroom floor.

I hoover and mop my bedroom floors once a week.

Are you shagging on it regularly or something?

What sort of air purifier are you using?

AdoraBell · 19/08/2023 21:07

Carpets in the bedrooms here but in our last house mostly just hoovering and mopped about once every six weeks. DD2 is much more fussy and cleaned the floor every week or more frequently if she spilt anything.

fiorentina · 19/08/2023 21:10

I hoover weekly and mop every few weeks. We do walk on it with bare feet etc so I feel it needs it. Just my preference.

WalnutBlue · 19/08/2023 21:19

I mop at least once a month, it's an ordeal.
Do under furniture every 3 to 6 months.
Under the bed... Probably never though as it's a pain in the arse.
Some areas are hardly every mopped as we have a 3 year old ds, there are toys in every corner. 😂

Tortoisetowers · 19/08/2023 21:19

I rarely move the bed to mop under there, but I blast underneath it with a hairdryer to blow all the big dust/ hair balls out! Works a treat!

TMess · 19/08/2023 21:21

Every week. We don’t have any rooms with carpet so I just do the whole house on Saturdays and call it good. Obviously I hand wash any spills etc in between times.

QGMum · 19/08/2023 21:29

Er…I haven’t mopped the bedroom floor EVER. We have lived in the house for 17 years.

PoliticallyIncorrectHitchling · 19/08/2023 21:37

I do it weekly. Most of my friends do it weekly too. Makes the house smell and feel nice

Me neither!

ladeluge · 19/08/2023 21:44

Carpet upstairs here too. So nice underfoot. Vacuum once a week, it's fine.

Skyrim41 · 19/08/2023 21:44

I just spot clean with the cleaning cloth and some washing up liquid or a floor wipe and push it around with my foot. Does anyone know where you can get disposable biodegradable floor wipes

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 19/08/2023 21:46

I have 5 cats and a messy Dh - all hard floors, swept daily, hoovered and mopped weekly unless there’s a spillage in the meantime.
