I haven't mopped my bedroom floor for 10 years

This is true.

I have obviously hoovered it. (Having said that, hoovering is only once every 6 weeks or so)

The thing I hate is having to move all the furniture around. Under the bed is harboured with dust, but who even goes under their bed anyway, right?

I was going to ask if this was really disgusting but now I'm looking at it in black and white.. I think I already know the answer..

How often do you properly mop/hand clean your wooden floor?

A hoover around the bedroom once every 2 weeks and a mop when I feel like it maybe once a month, we don’t wear shoes indoors and no dogs upstairs. I do however feather duster the ceiling as it’s beamed and we seem to harbour the roads population of spiders.

AndrexPuppy · 19/08/2023 22:56

Proper wood floors (not in bedrooms) are wet cleaned every 6 weeks or so. It’s not good for the wood to be wet, so I keep it to a minimum. We are shoes off but do have pets, so need to do more than just regular hoovering.

I'm confused.. are people actually mopping carpets??

PP, the best thing for your kids' health is to let them play in mud and nature. Failing that, a dirty floor. Not a bleached floor.

Not to worry, they’re grubby farm kids.

Youdontsay87 · 19/08/2023 23:06

Mines carpet but I doubt I'd mop it if it were wood. What's the point? I'm not going to eat off it! Frankly I have much more fun things to do then mop a bedroom floor!

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 19/08/2023 23:14

Vacuumed daily, mopped weekly.

LBFseBrom · 19/08/2023 23:22

Get a steam cleaner and do it occasionally.

DappledThings · 19/08/2023 23:28

I only mop the kitchen and that's maybe monthly. Swept most days.

Other hard floors swept roughly weekly.

Upstairs all carpeted. Vacuumed maybe fortnightly.

Can't be doing with having a strict schedule for it, too boring. And couldn't have a bedroom without a carpet. We had wooden floors here for the first few months after we moved in and the room never felt finished till we carpeted.

To the PP who asked why would I...

You can tell it hasn't been cleaned properly. You just can. If I walk on it barefoot (which I don't as I'm always in slippers) it feels ... almost greasy (?) I don't know how to describe it . It's pretty gross tbh

So why wouldn't you mop it?

salsmum · 20/08/2023 04:21

We have hard floors throughout as daughter in a wheelchair and I invested in one of those spray buffing things on shopping channel.. you charge it up pop some zealots in it and away you go I love it.

mathanxiety · 20/08/2023 04:43

I have wood floors everywhere. I mop weekly. It's good for the wood.

Are you shagging on it regularly or something?

You don’t have to ‘shag’ on it as you put it, for it to be dirty. OP admits it’s filthy.

scrivette · 20/08/2023 06:43

I have carpets in the bedroom but have never hoovered behind the furniture or under the bed as I can't move them. Getting a new bed shortly so will steam clean carpets then.

newwings · 20/08/2023 08:56

Anywhere with bare feet or shoes worn gets mopped regularly?

Madamlulu · 20/08/2023 09:58

I take it that no shoes are ever worn on the floor and you don't have a dog? If not then it's not too bad as nothing from the outside comes in much - that's always my concern about floors and I'm so strict about shows being off for this reason. I can't stand the thought of dog poo remains being on people's shoes and going round the house.

My hard floors are only downstairs and so get mopped once a fortnight, I think they then feel nicer and clean.

MrsCharlieD · 20/08/2023 12:38

We have carpet in the bedroom so it gets hoovered weekly. Downstairs is all laminate or cushion flooring so it gets hoovered and mopped weekly. The laminate I use the Method wood flooring cleaner which you just squirt on and dry mop. Pulling out the bed and cleaning under/behind it is usually an annual thing but we have a divan so the frame is right to the floor. If I had wood floors in the bedroom it would be mopped weekly like downstairs.

Lavenderosemary · 21/08/2023 22:31

I've got all hard floors. Bought longer legs or extra raisers for all the furniture in the house so every area is fully roomba accessible and run roombas on each floor daily (We have five robot hoovers, and a very strange design of house!). We have fifteen cats and three dogs, so designing the house around roombas was self preservation! Use a bissell to mop the house every week or two, and two of the robot vacuums have mopping pads.

I highly recommend robot hoovers with mopping pads and raising all the furniture for them! It's the ultimate time saving bank for a very clean house with minimal effort. 😁😁😁

I have no idea if mine have ever been done, apart from the first clean after it was remodelled... My cleaner is the one dealing with ...all the cleaning! And I am never there when she is! I know she uses the mop, but dont know if she just mops the kitchen/bathrooms or the wooden floors as well!
