That's it, just how often does a duvet need to be washed?

Never. I wash the covers, which, you know, cover, the duvet.

A few times in its lifetime if a child has been sick or dropped something on it

Never…change cover weekly!

CaptainMyCaptain · 24/04/2023 20:01

I've never washed a duvet. I wash the cover once a week.

Annually

We have winter ones and summer ones. When I swap them over, I wash the one being retired before I put it away. So each one gets washed once per year, having been used for about six months.

Same.

I wash the winter one at the launderette as it's too big for my machine.

I hang mine outside on a very hot sunny day.

Sadly though, duvet covers aren't impenetrable (more's the pity!).

But unless youre spilling things in bed, they are mostly protected by the cover!

Ive never washed mine. I mean, current one is only a couple of months old, but the one before was never washed, to the best of my knowledge.

Theyre feather and down and I wouldnt want to ruin them. Plus, if it doesnt fit in my washing machine, its not getting done.

I’m so fed up with taking duvet cover off and putting it back on that I just don’t do it anymore. No duvet cover. In fact I’d like to find a pretty printed one.

So, I do a fitted sheet and a flat top sheet, then coverless duvet on top of flat sheet, and a quilt/coverlet on top of the duvet so that the duvet pretty much stays clean and fresh as it’s between a top sheet and a quilt. Still wash it every few months. Wash the sheets once a week, quilt once every three or four weeks as it stays clean. All white bedding including the quilt.

pretty printed duvet not cover

I wash the kids single ones because the fit in the washer. The doubles and kingsize I just replace with new ones.
