That's it, just how often does a duvet need to be washed?

OP posts:
LividHouse · 24/04/2023 09:01

I’ve never washed a duvet. Only the cover 🫣

IglesiasPiggl · 24/04/2023 09:05

We have winter ones and summer ones. When I swap them over, I wash the one being retired before I put it away. So each one gets washed once per year, having been used for about six months.

BeyondMyWits · 24/04/2023 09:07

Never washed a duvet, cover gets done once a week. (Never washed a pillow either.)

I say never, but my daughter's duvet got washed once when she was sick on it.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 24/04/2023 09:08

Every few months or so.

Mostly because I have dogs.

Bluelightbaby · 24/04/2023 09:09

I tend to only wash in the summer as drying is a pain otherwise

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/04/2023 09:09

Every time a pet does something unspeakable on it

arethereanyleftatall · 24/04/2023 09:09

Never. The cover fortnightly.

DelurkingAJ · 24/04/2023 09:10

As we change them over. We have one of those double affairs that clips two different weight duvets together for the coldest months. So in spring when we just have the single heavier one I wash the light weight one before I put it away and when we switch to just the light weight one in the summer I wash the heavier one and so on.

GooseberryCinnamonYogurt · 24/04/2023 09:12

Interesting, washing has to be done in a commercial machine?

OP posts:
Hugasauras · 24/04/2023 09:14

Mine is a coverless one, which I do actually use a cover on for aesthetics but just bung the whole thing in our washing machine without stripping it. So every week generally.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/04/2023 09:15

Never, we have a very expensive feather duvet, in 2 parts (summer and winter). When we change them over we have them dry cleaned. So they each get dry cleaned once a year

DiscoBeat · 24/04/2023 09:32

3 duvets - I wash each one before I put it away for the season.

DiscoBeat · 24/04/2023 09:33

(Guest duvet gets washed every time it's used)

Gregorylass · 24/04/2023 09:35

I send ours to the laundry every 6 months.

MonumentalLentil · 24/04/2023 09:40

Ours are done yearly, on a hot day as they take a while to dry. They are lower tog (between 2 - 7) and fit into the washing machine. I wouldn't wash feather ones but not a worry as I don't like to think of feathers being ripped off live birds.

Never. The cover fortnightly.

Same here... only humans allowed in my bed though!

hettiethehare · 24/04/2023 09:42

I've never washed our duvet - cover gets taken off and washed weekly.

MenopauseSucks · 24/04/2023 09:45

They get washed when it's the changeover from summer to winter & vice versa.
The covers get changed every 2-3 weeks but I have a sheet between me & the duvet that in theory keeps them a bit cleaner...

CatOnTheChair · 24/04/2023 09:49

Never??
Well, in 2018 when the roof came off in a storm, I washed the duvets as they got wet.
The covers get washed most weeks.

FoxFeatures · 24/04/2023 09:58

My duvet goes to the dry cleaner quarterly - they launder them. I wash my duvet cover and sheets (I use one flat sheet between me and the duvet as you would with a blanket) every week, without fail. My duvets look as white as the day I bought them.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/04/2023 10:00

My duvet won't fit in my washing machine and the nearest commercial laundrette is thirty miles away. I sometimes hang it on the line for a day in sunny weather though, to get freshened up.

Xrays · 24/04/2023 10:04

Never. Kids ones if they spill something on them. But ours, hope. Change all the sheets and wash mattress protector once a week but never wash the duvet. Tend to just leave it till it gets old and replace every year or so.

Xrays · 24/04/2023 10:05

*nope

You was mattress protector once a week? I wash mine couple times a year! Am I a dirty cow?
