What is your oven cleaning routine?

I'm trying to keep my oven cleaner. It used to be a once a year job with loads of oven pride.

I'm m trying to do it every 8 weeks now as doing TOMM, it still takes forever and without oven pride it isn't properly clean.

I know ideally it should be wiped after each use, but I find that once I've cooked a roast, the door is splattered and won't come off without scrubbing. I'm just not prepared to scrub the oven every single week.

I already use oven liners and gave self cleaning sides. Is there any other way to make it a bit easier?

I do try to wipe down in between but honestly it’s not my strong point. It lets down the rest of my house which is fairly spick and span.

Pennyplant19 · 10/03/2023 19:07

I pay a company to come and do mine. The first time I used them, they used before and after pictures of my oven on their advertising billboards locally. Embarrassing 🙈 😂

AlviesMam · 10/03/2023 19:08

Oven cleaner comes out once a year 😁

RaraRachael · 10/03/2023 19:08

Mine never gets in that much of a mess tbh. The door never gets splattered when I cook a roast as I've always used roasting bags- no mess.

MajorCarolDanvers · 10/03/2023 19:10

Twice a year I pay a company to clean it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/03/2023 19:12

Brillo pads, makes light work of it.

ChilliBandit · 10/03/2023 19:17

For the glass I use pink stuff a few times a year

Rebel2 · 10/03/2023 19:30

Pay the nice man £40 (he uses vinegar etc so no chemical smells) and drink tea while he does it

LaMarschallin · 10/03/2023 19:36

Thank you very much to the posters who gave me an idea of the cost.
I got the feeling they'd want to come round to assess the oven, then give me a price, and I'm terrible at turning people down.
It sounds very tempting...

OnSecondThoughts · 10/03/2023 19:40

My routine is:

  1. Observe the state of the oven.
  2. Think 'hmmm, really must get that cleaned.....soon. Yes, definitely quite soon'.
  3. Watch some telly.
JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 10/03/2023 19:45

You're meant to clean them?

FadedRed · 10/03/2023 19:48

My oven cleaning routine. DH does it with ‘powerful men-only chemicals’ (Oven magic or some such) that I don’t worry my pretty little head about, a couple of times a year.
Or he did until I bought an air-fryer and now almost never use said oven. Think it won’t need another clean for several years, apart from occasionally dusting the cob-webs off and drying it’s tears of loneliness…

437Applepie · 10/03/2023 19:51

Do you do your roasts in a bag? Might reduce that mess at least. I can sympathise though, I recently got my oven almost good as new and was horrified with what came off the glass when I wiped it a few weeks later!

AlwaysLatte · 10/03/2023 19:57

I just find a wipe round with very hot soapy water after every use whilst it's still warm stops any build up. Also use the silicone liners.

Anotherselfemployedcleaner · 10/03/2023 20:05

Oven cleaning is the one job I absolutely detest, and I won’t do it for ANY of my clients (pyrolytic ovens excepted)!

I get my own double oven professionally cleaned once a year, approx £70.

Cheap oven tray goes in the bottom with a liner in it (much easier to contain spills).

Racks and side supports go in the dishwasher on the hottest setting two or three times a year.

Astonish Oven and Cookware Cleaner is good for the glass doors. But if really mucky/burned on, I swipe over a light coating of Oven Pride (or something gel based). Leave drop down doors open (so glass practically horizontal and no chance of gel getting where it shouldn’t). Leave on overnight/all day, wipes away easily with very little residue.

hiredandsqueak · 10/03/2023 20:08

I get a bloke to clean it every six months outside of that I wipe any obvious spills but largely ignore it. I'm never cleaning an oven again, takes ages and is never as good a job when finished as the oven man does.

saymynamex · 10/03/2023 20:59

I turn the dial and walk away. I love my pyrolytic oven!

Bigfatchips · 10/03/2023 21:01

Once a year I call the oven cleaning company.

Clean it between Christmas and New Year as that's the only time it's used really. Ninja rest of the year.

I'm with you! (Though I do clean the interior glass first so that nothing gets baked on as the temperature hits 400!)

catsnore · 10/03/2023 21:20

Stick racks in the dishwasher. Then use a Brillo pad to get any residue off. Pink stuff will clean off the glass.

I do this roughly every six months. I also put foil on the tray which is part of my oven so I can just replace the foil without having to clean anything.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 10/03/2023 21:20

My what????

Mine is pyrolytic but I find it doesn’t clean it that well and you still have to clean the shelves and glass etc.

Mutabiliss · 10/03/2023 21:44

My what, sorry? 😂

It gets cleaned when we move house. By someone else, who I pay. We're veggie so it's not really dirty?
