Anyone else rocking the housework?

My housekeeping was always somewhat chaotic, and since these were launched, my house is far more functional and a podcast away from actually looking rather orderly, even at short notice.

I tend to pick what I need each day rather than following the tradtitonal TOMM, but do refer back to that to help get some jobs done if they're in danger of being neglected.

I think my most used tracks are the "Calm Laundry Put Away" the "Bitesize Bathroom Blitz" and the "Quick Kitchen Turnaround"

Pretty sure they're in the process of migrating them all.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/10/2023 13:52

I'm still on Patreon, I was aiming to cancel towards the end of the month then switch over.

Is there much missing on the app? Having been on from the start and doing the majority when they drop, I tend to know what I want.

I've been doing bursts of decluttering today with some of the short sessions.

Is there a way to feedback about the app? Maybe on the App Store? You'd think they'd want to know if people aren't happy

LadyAmeliaSmallhope · 24/10/2023 23:06

When I listen to the podcast @Dropthedonkey Gemma always mentions getting in touch with any feedback, you definitely should if there's anything you think would be helpful!

I don't know if the reaction to the app has been generally positive (I only listen to the podcast and read about TOMM on here, not any of the other channels!) but it does have a feeling of being launched before it was 100% ready?

CupOfTia · 25/10/2023 14:13

Email them! I can't remember the email address But I had a bit of a problem logging in and they replied really quickly and was amazing!

BogRollBOGOF · 31/10/2023 17:26

I've just done the switch and gone over to the TOM app. I've strategically done it today so I can start the trial as the Patreon month ends.

Having signed up on Patreon on the day it launched about 18m ago, I'm feeling strangely disloyal 😂

Good idea about the app @BogRollBOGOF Grin

I'm still pottering on with the deep cleans in the hope that one day I'll be at the maintenance level...

FourTeaFallOut · 05/11/2023 17:12

Just back from holiday, house full of laundry and the remnants of Halloween decorations cluttering up the house. Have been hammering the laundry sorting pods today and getting ready for a marathon house clean tomorrow. I am watching Aurikatarina, so that when I start winging tomorrow I have some proper perspective about it all. 😁

FourTeaFallOut · 05/11/2023 17:12

Whinging, even.

DollyParsons · 05/11/2023 17:18

I'm intrigued by this - guided cleans sound right up my street. Going to look this up.Thanks!

LadyAmeliaSmallhope · 05/11/2023 23:53

@FourTeaFallOut I've banished the Halloween decorations to the loft (which is a bit of a disaster zone, but not much I can do about it for now) and donated this year's costumes... the laundry though is driving me bananas Confused more rain = more muddy sports kit = less opportunity to actually wash and dry the stuff!

FourTeaFallOut · 06/11/2023 06:11

I have a.taller-than-me clothes horse that I roll up to the taller-than-me radiator in the kitchen and it just about keeps the washing ticking over but the moment I get behind it's then a juggling act between hanging over radiators and chairs/ judicious use of the dryer for the unshrinkables, double spinning all the clothes and ironing out any remaining damp to keep the assembly line going. It's a pita.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/11/2023 14:03

I'm back onto Patreon.
I tend to know what I'm looking for through the website so at present am not finding a significant advantage through the app. I had the app anyway so no loss there.

Being down to two laundry sessions avaliable when I have a post-half term mountain, and no "bitesize bathroom blitz" tipped me this morning 😂

The other advantage on Patreon is being able to pause through a clean, go onto another clean then pick up part-way through the original. Or a variation on the same theme is if it seizes, Patreon picks it back up but the app doesn't.

It's got potential and it is more streamlined for someone picking the concept up, but when I've been keeping up with the content from the begining, using the website to link to Patreon is currently working better for me.

In other news it's been a productive, sunny back to school morning. 3x laundry sessions (15 mins each) a bite size bathroom, a nicely structured hallway tidy from last Christmas and disco decluttering the conservatory which should stay pretty tidy until the Christmas decorations emerge.
It's been a good day to do the conservatory for this time of year so I'm feeling smug.

I'm not saying it's been a sodden, muddy weekend but the whole family may have been told to strip to their pants in the hall and immediately put their clothes in the washer after both parkruns this weekend 😂

In other laundry triumphs, the picnic blanket is on the washing line... it's been waiting since August, such has been the unfortunate combination of weather and my organusation/ prioritisational skills 😂

OP posts:
LadyAmeliaSmallhope · 07/11/2023 12:20

@BogRollBOGOF that is a genius post-Parkrun idea Grin

All my towels are out on the washing line today as it's sunny now but due to rain tomorrow. I'm doing some major decluttering at the moment and debating whether to keep the spare towels... we have two each plus spares but they have been in vacuum packed bags for six months now without being touched! We never have people to stay as our house is too small so I can't see that we'll ever need them, but they are still in my 'just in case' pile...

BogRollBOGOF · 10/11/2023 11:52

Motivation is back.
Level 1s done.
Washer and dishwasher are busy.
Calm laundry put away done.

The house must be in better nick because I'm looking at a few rooms and thinking they just need some bitesize sessions to get back in order.

Kitchen also on the to-do list, but waiting for the second dishwasher load to complete. I went for getting awkward pans and the slow cooker crock done as it clears space, is a less fiddly load to put away, plus the kids hate doing them so it's easier to do a crockery load last and delegate that to them 😁

Bitesize Living Room to tackle the playroom here I come!

OP posts:
BogRollBOGOF · 20/11/2023 23:55

It's been a "unload the dishwasher"x3 day.
Made use out of a laundry session to get some clothes dealt with straight after drying, but otherwise I've got most of todays bits and pieces done solo.

I think tomorow is more of a "reset" day. Today had some backlogs to shift before getting to that point. I'm recognising a post-weekend pattern 😂
Most rooms are just in need of a routine freshen up which is a decent place to be.

OP posts:
Dropthedonkey · 21/11/2023 09:50

My Patreon sub expired so have switched to the TOMM one. Will see how the play own music thing works!

FourTeaFallOut · 23/11/2023 12:03

Just done the 75 minute reset. Feel like I'm due a medal but will be content with a stiff cup of tea and a victory mince pie. Want some Christmas cleans now, I'm feeling festive 🤞

BogRollBOGOF · 23/11/2023 16:26

18+ months in and it still stuns me what can be achieved in the time it takes to do a podcast.

OP posts:
FourTeaFallOut · 23/11/2023 20:09

Yeah, it's really satisfying. The other thing I like about getting the house back together is how it feels like a fresh start. I'm feeling much more onto it and organised again now.

I've got tomorrow morning to have another push and I'm going to give the utility room a really good dung out. I think I'll do a stint of laundry, then declutter and then clean. I might do the cleaning podcast or I might listen to an audio book. Incidentally, I tried combining a book and the cleans with the -use my music- option and the result was awful 🤣 I couldn't keep track of either.

FourTeaFallOut · 26/11/2023 10:49

Utility room is great now, can't believe how many bags of stuff went out of the house. It's only a gesture of a room but it was packed to the gunnels with needless stuff. It's already paying dividends because now I have a place to put the Christmas presents and it's a much nicer place to iron - two rounds of laundry guided sessions yesterday (wish they were longer)

Gnomegnomegnome · 26/11/2023 15:27

I’ve been doing TOMM for years but finally tried rock the housework! Total game changer! I love it.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/11/2023 06:42

Yeah, it's really good. I think it is really motivating but, for me, it changes the vibe of how I clean. I'm much more positive and upbeat about it and I think it <feels like an idiot> kind of honours the work - so I suppose what that really means is that it packages up forgettable work in SMART goals.

Just woke up to see a festive keep-me-company has dropped. Yay! 🌲🌲🌲

Absolutely.
I know what it is that I've done by the end of a session rather than spending similar time busying but seeing nothing in reward.
I can see gains in little and often too. Plus there's boundaries around it so I don't go into hyperfocus to the detriment of other tasks. I can now get some odds and ends done more independently now I'm feeling more trained.

Been busy at the new sessions today. I love multi-room cleans, and the 20 min tidy in the first part was well needed! I need to be at IL level clean in a couple of weeks so chipping away at it now will mean that it's not a last minute 48 hour frenzy to pretend to live in show home standard.

I know there's the argument of why pretend, but it is healthy to have a deep clean a few times a year and it probably never would happen without such ridiculous pressure 😂

Bonus; post-ILs, I used to crash, enjoy the house for 3 days then wonder why it was approaching shit-tip so soon. RTH/ TOM Rocks means that I can spend a little time cleaning a clean house, not feel ridiculous and maintain it longer before the inevitable return to chaos (coz there's more to life than housework)
