I’m doing the 31 Day declutter challenge

I’ve done it before but not for a while. Despite a huge effort to declutter last year, the house is looking a bit chaotic again. So 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 etc.

I’m off to find an item…

Going to try!

I did this last year - thank you for reminding me!
I've just been in the garage because I can't find my important documents folder which I need for a job interview 🙄 I've got too much stuff.
I'm definitely going to do this again.
Will be back to update on today's 1 thing!

This thing, no idea what it is.
Kept until its use became apparent and potentially integral to something. In the recycling now.

I also started in December. I’m sorting out my spice and flour cupboard today and I really want to vacuum it before reloading but I’ve got some sleeping (hungover) teens upstairs Xmas Smile

I'll join, but it will be more like one item a day. Here's to a less cluttered February Wink

@Sallygoroundtheroses could it be an iPad stand? Anyway if you don’t use it, get rid! I’ve just dejunked the utensil drawer__

What’s the challenge? If you’re getting rid of items to the value of the number of the day as you’ve described I.e. day 1, 1 item etc then you’d be getting rid of around 496 items in 31 days 🤯 who has that much stuff!!! Or have I mis understood?

PollyPeePants · 01/01/2023 13:41

This a great idea - I think it will be easy to get rid of that much stuff, especially if there are a few of you living in your home.
Eg on day 31 I can easily see me getting rid of 31 random odd socks!

I am in. So much stuff to get rid of.

I will join in - house far too cluttered!
no idea how to post photographs though!

item 1: a washbag! I don’t need so many!

Joining too! We have way too much stuff, I will be doing a mix of charity shops and selling on vinted to get rid.

Whoop, done day 1! Got rid of a scented candle I didn't like and had hidden away on a high shelf.

Old iphone case for me - it's gone all rigid with age, and doesn't fit my current phone.

I've also sorted out a bag of clothes to take to the charity shop. It's got 19 things in - I'm going to be massively busy on the 9th and 10th so I've got that covered and don't have to think about it.

I did it at some point last year and really helped to get rid of unnecessary'stuff'. Going to repeat. Day 1 difficult as not at home today but will do 3 tomorrow.

I'll definitely join. I have been gradually listing things on our local give away page over the last few days, but could really do with kicking it up a gear.

1 small collection of baby books - it's a pack of 4 that DD has destroyed - the covers falling off etc so not salvageable to give away.

I'm joining!
Today, an umbrella cover for a long since gone umbrella. No idea why I still had it!

I've also decluttered my fridge by eating the remaining chocolate cake....

IpanemaPomegranate · 01/01/2023 20:14

Haha yes I just finished the trifle left in fridge so with that and 4 spice jars from 2018, it was a good start.

Dog bed has just been taken. Dog bed came with DDog and looked new. She's never liked it and has hardier ever been in it.

Mommabear20 · 01/01/2023 20:51

Can I join? Over the month it equates to 496 items but I'll be aiming for 500 items over the month instead of an amount or day as with 3 DC under 3, I can't guarantee I'll have time each day to find things!

Brill. Count me in. Need a good New Year declutter. Today one item - magazine put for recycling

I’ve sorted out my perfumes today and got rid of 8 sample sized vials.

Mine cannot go out till next week , I have bedding which the kerbside pick ups don't take .
I put loads of DS socks (still good condition) into one of those big recycling bins in Dec . I think my worksocks need to be replaced soon so they'll go .

2022 diary to go out
Tomorrow I'll cull through the bathroom shelves

Report
mum2jakie · 01/01/2023 21:11

Good thinking about the clothes recycling bins as most of the charity shops will still be closed tomorrow.

Report
Clingfilm · 01/01/2023 21:20

OP that thing you've pictured looks like the cover you put over screws on the corner if Ikea/flat pack furniture so if you have t noticed it's missing it can't that important.
