I’m doing the 31 Day declutter challenge

I’ve done it before but not for a while. Despite a huge effort to declutter last year, the house is looking a bit chaotic again. So 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 etc.

I’m off to find an item…

Can I join please? We cleaned out 2 kitchen cupboards this weekend, nearly empty spice jars, and things we just don't like. We're going to try to sort out the cupboard under the stairs this week.

I would love to join, too late tonight so will aim for 3 items tomorrow!

This is a great idea! I worry that I'll run out of steam towards the end of the month, but I'm going to start with determination.

I've just cleared out all my odd gloves. I adore some of them and have kept them in the hope that their mate will turn up. But it's been years, so I think it's time to bite the bullet.

I'm in! Love a challenge to keep the never ending declutter interesting.

Took down our tree and decorations today (tree kerbside pick up day is tomorrow) and binned some old broken bits plus bagged some kids christmas books for charity shop. Gonna count that as 1 so that I can clear as much as poss though I do like @HippoInABadWig 's tactic of preparing for busy days...

my council recycling centre open again soon....i will sweep the rooms with a bin bag and stuff the lot in....then sort out at the centre....they also have a resale area but i rarely look as could be tempted to bring something back...!!

Giant cheap crap "rubiks" cube into the charity bag.

I think 496 divided by 30 days is 16 and a half things each day, so I'll aim for about 16 or 17 a day.
I can probably do one day just with coat hangers.

1982mommaof4 I would seriously like to take DH to the tip as he’s been a complete arse tonight!!

Will definitely join but I have so much stuff, I’ll be getting rid of a lot more than one or two items every day. The charity shops are going to do very well! I was going to start in our bedroom yesterday but wasn’t feeling the best.

Hoping this thread can get me beyond the decluttering I did this year which, because I don't drive, is still in boxes and bags in a wardrobe 😳 Lots more to do even so, and if I can stick to the rules then pretty soon I would feel justified in asking one of the charity shops to do a van collection. Another part of the solution would be to take small/light stuff to a charity shop every few days on the bus. But I've decided I'd do that lots of times before and then avoided it 🙄

Anyway, will keep this thread open on my phone and make myself look at it each day. Maybe you'll all inspire me! 😃 Sooooo many cupboards to declutter... 🙏

Day 2 - 2 magazine into recycling
Day 3 - 3 kids books into the charity bag
Day 4 - 4 pieces of child's 'artwork' into the bin.

Total - 10.

I will do more some days and nothing on others, back to work tomorrow for the rest of the week so getting ahead a bit.

Morning all. Someone up thread questioned if anyone really has over 400 items to offload, well prepare to be amazed, for I do.

Today is another random plastic bit (likely is the IKEA part mentioned before) and a lovely watch that my kid doesn’t really like anymore but I know someone who would love it.

I’ll do charity shop stuff on weekdays as I’m close to one at work and that means it definitely leaves the house!

@Sallygoroundtheroses I saw that comment and laughed. A few years ago I did a huge declutter. I was aiming fir 10 items a day. I did around 3600. Now some of this was stuff like old paperwork, letters in piles with envelopes, random bits of paper with kids scribbles etc. Baby clothes, toys. I hadn't kept on top of it but my house didn't look hoarded or anything near to it.

I will be trying to sell, donate, recycle as much as I can, but if things need to go in the bin, so be it.
