I’m doing the 31 Day declutter challenge

I’ve done it before but not for a while. Despite a huge effort to declutter last year, the house is looking a bit chaotic again. So 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 etc.

I’m off to find an item…

Today I have put away the christmas decorations. Several broken ones binned. A decoration storage bag we don't need listed on olio.

Sorted bathroom cabinets. Bag full of empties recycled. Old sun cream, after sun, contact lenses solution binned.

I'd like to join please! I did this in November 2021 but I was too strict on myself (I subtracted the items coming into the house) and faltered halfway through.

Yesterday I got rid of:
1 plaster of Paris penguin that DS painted entirely brown, so it looked like a turd.
1 manky kids' book
2 scratch art books that had been used up

So that's 4/1 yesterday.

Nothing today, so 4/3 now.

Tomorrow I will try to get rid of the Christmas cards. Someone should also be coming to collect some spare car seat covers I listed for free on Facebook. I've got quite a few things I should list for sale/ free cluttering up the bedroom, and I definitely need to be less sentimental about outgrown winter hats as they appear to breed over summer...

Might give this a go, but will try for 10 items a day for a total of 310. It's the 2nd day so need to find 20 things...

And I've just found 27 bits of old crap (delivery notes, craft bits, ribbons, crochet samples)

@LolaSmiles not too late at all! I me tinned uptgread I did this in reverse last year so started with 31 and worked down. Or just make a lost 1 - 31 and tick off as you go, in no particular order.

Oh and shed/garage/car all counts for me, plus garden(I find random broken kids stuff in the winter once everything dies back)

Two bags of Christmas decorations no longer needed off to the charity shop

One large bag of clothes off to the charity shop

6 items listed on vinted all other sellable clothes boxes up to be listed later this week

I'm awaiting the fall out when someone looks for a takeaway menu!

Hello. The only rule of the game is that anything goes! Today is a plate and a bowl that I don’t need and that will never get broken up to go in the bottom of garden pots no matter how many times I think they will.
And 2p.

Just caught up....

1. a red brocade jacket - it was a charity shop find at least a decade ago, & I love the fabric but not the fit so never wear it

2. 2 monsoon skirts - one I wore to death & now the elastic has gone & it's faded. The other is an ebay buy that's just a bit too short & wafty for a person of my stature & age, frankly...

3. primark pj trousers & shorts - both faded & elastic gone. Ripped galibeya also from the nightie drawer

Dd2 found the jacket from (1) & it looks amazing on her...so I had to replace with a pair of tatty knickers 😂. At least it is no longer languishing unloved, I guess...

Or just make a lost 1 - 31 and tick off as you go, in no particular order.
I like that idea.

Today I've put a stack of old parenting magazines out for recycling. One was from 2016! That's embarrassing.

Hello everyone, I’d love to join you too a few days late to the party! We’re moving house this year so I really need to declutter. I’ll aim for 500 items in total in a month. I’m still at my in laws after Christmas, traveling home tomorrow so will start properly then. I’ve managed to finish up a few travel sized cosmetics whilst away though, so:

Day 3 - three books, put in chairity shop pile to take today!

Sorting the Christmas wrap/tags/cards stash today. Binned 3 used gift bags that I kept because "it's a shame to throw them" but I know I will never use.
Christmas decs tomorrow. I might have to do it under cover of darkness otherwise DD will veto everything I try to get rid of.

I'm going backwards as more free time now than at end of month

1. 8 out of date food, 12 odd drinking glasses, 1 ceramic planter, 1 broken milk frother , 3 hats, 3 magazine holders 3 elastic bandages :-31
2. 6 templates for chocolate on top of cappuccino, 2 sets of 6 crystal wine glasses for sale (12) 2 sets of 2 wine glasses for sale (4) 4 tops, 2 pairs of shoe, set of bath melts and a bra:- 30
3. white noise machine, 2 bags, belt, 2 magazines, 5 books 1 old printer cable, 2 files, 8 recipe cards 22 so far going to do under sink cupboard now

Love this idea. Have been decluttering for years it seems and still end up with more to go. I did lots of my clothes last year and have more to go as I’ve lost weight. Also did lots of books. Took five bags to the charity shop on the 29th Dec.

Not sure I will manage the prescribed daily totals but will aim for something every day at least. Even just one thing a day going out makes a difference.

Day 1 was a pair of socks where one developed a huge hole.
Day 2 Christmas TV Times into recycling
Day 3 Christmas cards

Just remembered I also got rid of an old, stained bib on Sunday. Nothing today yet, so currently on 5/6. Planning on chucking some Christmas cards and two Which? magazines that I will never get round to reading.

This looks like a plastic cover for the brackets on an ikea kitchen cabinet.

I volunteervin a charity shop. Donate your old clothes and bedding even if they are not fit for resale. Most charity shops can sell bages full of "rags" by weight.

I'm trying doing this backwards because that makes more sense to me. I've done 61 things today (I know it's the 3rd but I started today, I'll see if I can get rid of 29 more). So cathartic!

By the way I won't give a full breakdown but highlights include DS's old battered wellies, lots of bits of kids' games etc that were unreconcilable or broken, a nearly empty bottle of hair serum that doesn't suit my hair, and christmas cards.
