Hello everyone, and welcome to the April Flylady thread!
We welcome newbies and returnees - if you are curious about the system feel free to ask questions or lurk! We do follow it, erm, loosely to say the least. So there is a lot of chat about random life stuff as well as housework, decluttering and organising.

A key element of flylady is not being a perfectionist!
I don’t think the regulars would mind me saying that most of us here are not naturals at housekeeping etc, so please don’t feel we are some intimidating group who demand perfectly shined sinks. We are human. We fall off the wagon. We commiserate and help each other climb back on, and we stock the virtual naughty corner with snacks and blankets for the days when adulting is just too hard.

So, the system:
🔹Some baby steps which are designed to help you build up a routine.
🔹Daily missions to help with sprucing up particular areas in the zones, for example the first zone of the month is the entry/porch and dining room if you have one.
🔹Try and do 15 minutes decluttering a day. It didn’t get cluttered in a week so it will take a lot longer to clear it!
🔹Daily focuses to help shape the week.
🔹Here on the thread many of us post to do lists, but also “ta da” lists of things we’ve achieved that day.
🔹We also recommend the Power of Three technique - if you’re overwhelmed with too much to do, just pick three things and don’t think about the rest.

Anyway, I will post some links each day (hopefully) but whether you follow the system or not - many of us just take the bits we like or build our own flylady style system to suit our own lives - do join in if you want a place to chat about keeping a house and family running!

Finally, thank you hugely to the lovely willow for steering us beautifully through March! 💐

How many times does one need to accept cookies Hmm

Hi mc!

Ta Da List
ta da
📚tidied bedtime story books as they’d got out of hand again
📚LOL
📚maths and science with DD1 (DS did some maths too)
📚Cagbunny care
📚walked to town
📚set up bank accounts for the Caglets
📚hung out non tumble laundry
📚another LOL
📚taught maths online

Didn’t really manage anything after that, PoTS is flaring up a bit I think due to the warmer weather. But glad I got a few bits done especially setting up (and making decisions about) the Caglets’ bank accounts for pocket money. Big anti procrastination there!

Might be meeting some new home ed friends tomorrow, which is timely as I’m feeling pretty down about that stuff at the moment. Will have another tidy up in the morning but DD1 assured me that the mum is just like me and said “I want a tidy house but I just can’t do it!” 🤣 I have a feeling we shall get on well 🤣

Right, really should try and sleep, just feel a bit BLAH.

How many times does one need to accept cookies

Never. Cookies are Satan's snacks. I reluctantly let them have the ones they won't let me turn off. Even then o regularly go into the browser site settings and remove almost everybody's cookies. Data draining, battery eating bastards.

Today was mainly tidying the bedroom, emptying bins and unpacking the delivery.

WildBlueAndDitzy · 22/04/2022 02:30

And reading the amazingly awesome parking thread, which is why I'm still awake.

SingToTheSky · 22/04/2022 08:34

I probably should actually think through the cookies rather than blindly accepting them tbf! I am just impatient 😳🙈

Oh well at least it seems to be keeping me signed in now so that’s something.

❗️Get up, dressed, meds, breakfast
❗️Discuss the day with DH

TFIF! I’ve had a lovely 2 weeks with DD1 off school, but wow I’m ready for her to go back Grin

Busy day today as I’m at a wedding later (DC free!) so need to get ready as well as leaving the house in an ok state for babysitters. I’ll avoid the parking thread Blue, don’t want to get drawn in to that today!

<waves to Mc, Tidy and That>

Glad you had a lovely day out yesterday Willow

Right. We are all dressed and fed and have walked round the block to get MiniUp to sleep. DD1 is occupied in her room. Washing is hung out. Need a power of 3:

  1. 5 minute tidy
  2. empty dishwasher and stick breakfast things in
  3. paint finger and toenails.

Ah bollocks. Baby is awake.

THATunorganisedMUM · 22/04/2022 10:18

Crikey i hate this new format.

Still recovering from Covid here - not long Covid I hope but rather post virus tiredness. I'm not raspy or with breathing difficulties but I am having to pace myself. Arghh.

Off to a concert tonight - Dvorak with Marin Alsop as conductor😍🎻🎼

I'm enjoying Spring. My mood has gotten much better since we've had more daylight.

BeanAnTae · 22/04/2022 14:50

ooh That well done on getting through Uni and glad the new job is going well.

Would you not think of a PhD now? (runs 🏃)

MrsTidyHouse2022 · 22/04/2022 16:37

WildBlue Thank you for mentioning the brilliant parking thread. It certainly has brightened up a rather boring afternoon 😄

WildBlueAndDitzy · 22/04/2022 22:30

MrsTidy awesome wasn't it? Not often we have actual photos, grave robbing plague pits and the CF car getting towed. I've yet to catch up on tonight's installment.

Hope you enjoyed the concert Bean and the wedding Up.

Congratulations on the new job That glad you're enjoying it.

Today's forray down the FlyLady website rabbit hole has produced these gems: it's ok to declutter something just because you don't like it and if you don't go to bed early enough it's because you don't love yourself enough to figure out a way to get enough sleep. So I think these will be my focus for next week.

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 23/04/2022 08:24

Morning all! Don't think I posted yesterday, using MN is a right pain in the arse at the moment.

Mc lovely to see you.
That wow, the end of Uni - well done. Congrats on the new job too.
Wild sometimes Flylady says really useful things. I am working on sleep at present, trying to get off my phone at 9pm onto my book / Kindle (old fashioned type without a back light). I am having moderate, if inconsistent, success. When I get it right, it means I'm asleep by 10.30.

🍒👋 to everyone else, Up I hope you enjoyed the wedding and DD2 gave you time enough to paint your nails!

YesTaDa:
❤️ Morning routine, but it took until lunchtime!
🧡 Walked to the butchers with DD, to walk the dog and buy a pork joint for Sunday
💛 Achieved one metric bugger all in work terms
💚 carved out time to read my boom💙💜

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 23/04/2022 08:30

Sorry, "book". MN had a sudden issue and wouldn't let me type 🤦. This new interface is shit as a user experience, no matter what is going on underneath.

💙 Went to Tesco for DD's prescription and an emergency loaf
💜 20 mins Callanetics (old fashioned but effective)
❤️ Evening dog walk with DH, to pick up pizza for DS3
🧡 End of holiday takeaway for tea.

Ta Da Today:
💛 Two mugs of tea!

Plenty to do today as we wind up for school again:
🦔 Get DS3 to walk dog

🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔

GreenWillowAndCatkins · 23/04/2022 08:33

🦔 first COVID jab for DS3 (he doesn't know yet, to avoid panic as much as possible)
🦔 DS3 to change bed and tidy room
🦔 Get sewing stuff from loft room to study
🦔 Put it all away again
🦔 Healthful walk(s)
🦔 Callanetics.
🦔 Sausages for tea.

This issue where MN suddenly put a black box over the screen and say "oops! You don't have access to MN" is really starting to piss me off.

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Morning. No links today as it’s Saturday. Family fun day!!!

It is the last day in zone 4, the boodwa. So if you feel like doing any flying, a bit of decluttering in there would be good. <surveys mess> 😩

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/04/2022 09:45

Right. Must do a Hills style Hit The Ground Running today. Probably not with much physical stuff like housework <tired> but there are so, so many little admin tasks building up that I’ve been ignoring and procrastinating over and it’s making me anxious. So I absolutely must start to tackle things like that.

But first:

po3.1
❗️Breakfast. Apparently we are out of milk. <mutter>
❗️Meds. Bit late but glad I had a lie in!
❗️Put last night’s LOL in dryer

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/04/2022 12:20

So the HTGR didn’t happen 😳 I have spent a lot of time doing absolutely nothing but now I will get on with it.

po3.2
❗️Work out when meds need ordering and when tesco slots need booking (possibly today) - put both in diary
❗️Finish moving old academic year diary contents to the proper 2022 one that recently resurfaced, and make sure next week is fully written up on the board (started yesterday)
❗️Reply to a couple of messages I have procrastinated about

OP posts:
BeanAnTae · 23/04/2022 13:32

wild - thanks but I skipped the concert. I'm coughing a lot post Covid and spent the evening hacking so was too tired to go.

SingToTheSky · 23/04/2022 13:49

Such a shame bean :( wouldn’t have been fun sitting there trying not to cough!

I finally got stuff done, lots of diary sorting including writing the dates for various tasks that happen every four weeks rather than monthly, right up to the first date in 2023.

po3.3
❗️Send a couple of emails re dance
❗️Order a couple of activity for Cagletini
❗️Print SEN reports to give DD1’s new school

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 23/04/2022 16:58

I am resurfacing. These past few weeks have been rather busy, but I somehow was able to carry on with my routines, so the house was somewhat ticking over. The laundry is a bit wild though. Will need to do laundry galore tomorrow.

I might have overreacted on the playground today 😳 There is a wee corner playground in the community garden/allotment, with a slide, a play house, and few toys donated by locals for the kiddies including small tennis rackets. I was there with my 17 month old. No other kids there. A family walked over from the allotment/coffee area, a mum with a female relative/friend and 2 grown up teenage girls. Girls wanted to go down a baby slide (a bit strange since it's one of those plastic little tyke slides, but fine, none of my business really). Then they wanted to play tennis in that corner playground. They couldn't find a ball first, so I over heard the suggestion of hitting one of the phones instead 🥴 (again, not really my business, I was just overhearing it), but then they picked up a relatively heavy ball and started playing tennis in close proximity to my toot. Well I told them to please be careful with flying balls around children. They stopped and left. Then their mother had a go at me that they would have never hurt a child, that one of them was an experienced babysitter, and that the ball was soft.

Well, I don't think a small corner playground is the best place for older teens to play tennis, and I don't want any ball, soft or hard, hitting my son. I was polite, I promise. And I didn't ask them to leave, I just asked them to be careful. They left because they were embarrassed. DH thinks I overreacted, and now I feel guilty. Argh.

SingToTheSky · 23/04/2022 17:54

Crikey mc to me that doesn’t sound like an overreaction at all. Nothing wrong with asking people to mind out for a tiny person who could get hurt!

I have had a sinfully lazy afternoon, just keep feeling BLAH and tired and unmotivated. Need to do some more little one and done tasks.

po3.4
❗️Order hay in bulk for Cagbunny
❗️Print some more stuff for Cagletini since DSD will be using the laminator tomorrow anyway
❗️Look up student discount cards to see if I’m eligible 🤞

OP posts:
Mc3209 · 23/04/2022 18:23

Thanks Sing 😘
How is Cagbunny and Caglets doing?

That oh how exciting, almost finished with uni! A start of new era.

Enthusiastically waving to Willow, Up and the rest of the gang!
