Hi Ruby

Lewis

1 - I have a spreadsheet on the computer. I've tried with and without and it definitely helps to have something.

2 - The point of babysteps is that it stops you from burning out and you build routines slowly. IMO the most important part of FLYLADYs system. Others may disagree.

3 - No, the point of FLYLADY is that you start whereever and gradually things get better. It is NOT a quick fix but a way to develop a system that works for you.

4 - FLYLADY advocates 15 min bursts of effort. My morning routine, afternoon routine and bedtime routine take 15 mins each. Otherwise I wouldnt do them.

5 - You havent failed already. Just jump in and take it one (baby)step at a time.

Alambil · 31/12/2007 11:59

Thanks Ruby and FGS.

Thinking about it properly, I do think the living room could be a hell of a lot better for a 15 min burst...

I will take baby steps - I keep tripping over adult ones!

I also need to realise that this is MY house - not my mothers, not my grandmothers but mine and my house will be kept to my standards and my routines - not theirs!

My mum keeps presenting me with rotas and all sorts to "keep it as good as mine" .... it isn't even her house!

I will spend today sorting a routine/sheet and reading all about baby steps... I think preparation is the key, don't you? (in that if I know what I'm meant to be doing - I'll do it!)

FunkyGlassSlipper · 31/12/2007 12:03

Lewis - CAT me if you like and I'll send you my routines so you have something to copy.

lewis I don't have a control journal, I have these ladies as inspiration !

Alambil · 31/12/2007 12:43

RIGHT! I have just sat and drafted a week routine thingy on excel but can't see if I've missed anything.

It has incorporated the extra stuff to get the house shipshape like sorting the mounds of paperwork that are hiding everywhere and stuff like that.

When those are done, I'll re-do the routine because that will be done.

It would be too ridiculous to post it on here to get the professional's input wouldn't it?!

SaggyOldBagpuss · 31/12/2007 12:45

Hello Ladies, can I join too

I have done fly before and it really helped me to keep on top of the house, but I have let it slip over the last year so when I saw the thread here thought I'd bite the bullet and start posting here too

Alambil · 31/12/2007 12:47

Hi Saggy

As you can tell, I have no idea what I'm doing yet but these women are very welcoming.

Happy flying! (if only it were on a jet somewhere... now that would be fun!)

SaggyOldBagpuss · 31/12/2007 12:50

Will be back shortly when I have managed to work out a daily routine again. That in itself will be so much easier this time next week when the small people are back at school

DontDreamItBeIt · 31/12/2007 13:05

Hello again,and welcome bagpuss

I hink your qs have all been answered already Lewis, but I also think babysteps really helped me. I don' have a control journal, but do have daily and weekly routines. If you do the babysteps it helps you to build up a routine that fis in with your needs and work/life commitments.

The other thing tha really helps me is the 155 min bursts. If you don't let yourself get distracted, you canachiev alot in 15 mins.

I've sorted through all the childrens clohes, and have two sacks of stuff o get rid of. I will offer it allto my friends first, then charity shop the rest....does anyone want boys clohes 9-18 months, or girls 5-8 yrs at all (ffp)?

DP has taken he dds ou (but left me with ds not a great deal there I hink) so I can sort out upstairs, then I will be ready to get my FLYing back on track, too once the big ones are back at school.

Dontdream I'll have a look at girls clothes if you're offering...

Lewis I found the babysteps really helpful too - just the setting up of a routine so some of the every day jobs become habit rather than another chore is really helpful.

Welcome Bagpuss

I have hoovered and mopped downstairs, cleaned the cloakroom and cleared the hall.
I need to s&s the kitchen and sort out some snacks for this evening.

ludaloo · 31/12/2007 13:26

Hello

Welcome to bagpuss Lewis I did the babysteps, it really helped get a routine established. Like FGS I have various routines on the pc.

Bianca ooooh new Laptop!! !
I haven't received an email though (did you use my ludaloo address?)

I am off to do a quick food shop in a bit...I'll have a look when I get back to see if it is there or not. Do you have a new email address now then?

ludaloo · 31/12/2007 13:28

Lewis post it up here if you like, I'm sure we'll all have a look through for you

ludaloo · 31/12/2007 13:30

Jas I'd be interested in girls clothes if you have any 5-6/6-7 years?

DontDreamItBeIt · 31/12/2007 13:34

Alambil · 31/12/2007 13:39

oh, by the way, I only have a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and 2 bedrooms upstairs so that's why it doesn't seem so much to do, unless I've missed really obvious stuff!

BiancaCastafiore · 31/12/2007 13:41

Looks good Lewis

Alambil · 31/12/2007 13:44

oh good - now just to DO it!

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 31/12/2007 14:20

Hello.
I really shouldn't be on here!
I am going to spend a while clearing up kids mess in front room again in a bit.

I think i need to sort some sort of routine too. I flit from job to job or do one room then all the rest look a mess!

Don'tdream I would be interested in girls clothes too. DD1 is out growing her 4-5 stuff.

Right, i am going to do 15 mins then come back. I have to get on top of this dump!

FunkyGlassSlipper · 31/12/2007 14:23

Looks good Lewis. I'd take 'get up' off though unless you always stuggle with that

Lol@ Jas's 155 min bursts of work.

I've been busy with excel spreadsheets so no more housework done. But about to start afternoon routine. Wish me luck as DD2 being a grumpy so and so as full of cold

Alambil · 31/12/2007 15:19

Getting up is the hardest part of the day!
