How often do you clean your bathrooms?

DP thinks I clean the bathrooms unnecessarily I.e. they don’t need doing when I do them. My argument is that’s the whole point, you clean them so they don’t get to a point of “looking” unclean.

I have two bathrooms and do them both fully twice a week, daily bleach/toilet cleaner down the toilet, white vinegar on the taps once a week (independent of full cleans) and mop the floors at least once a week (in addition to full cleans when floor also gets done).

What’s a normal amount?

For just the two of you it probably doesn’t need anything like as much as that.
I do a quick wipe every day and a good clean once a week, but we have three revolting children.

Disneyblueeyes · 23/01/2022 11:17

Once a week.
I don't have time to do it daily. I'm surprised anyone does. Perhaps that's why so many people complain they have no time to themselves.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/01/2022 11:30

Proper clean every couple of weeks. In-between I do enough to keep it sanitary.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 23/01/2022 11:33

Only when I absolutely have to. Its my least favourite job. But then I do live alone sits never disgusting.

Kitfish · 23/01/2022 11:35

The cleaner does it once every two weeks. Might ocassionally put bleach down the toilet but apart from that it gets left in between.

Cheekypeach · 23/01/2022 11:36

Weekly
Bleach down the toilet couple times a week

NightmareSlashDelightful · 23/01/2022 11:38

Once a week + a tactical wipe when I remember.

AuntieMarys · 23/01/2022 11:42

Weekly. I have 3 bathrooms all with showers....only 1 shower gets used usually as there's only 2 of us.

Maria1982 · 23/01/2022 11:45

I would like weekly - if someone else was doing it!
If it’s me then it gets done fortnightly.

I would not be spending time and energy cleaning a bathroom that doesn’t look dirty twice a week (twice a week??? Why???).

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 23/01/2022 11:47

Floors once a week after I've changed the cat litter. Toilet, sink, bath, shower screen every day usually while dc4(6) & 5(4) are having a bath, shower screen is when I've finished my shower. Tiles once a month/every 6 weeks or so. We're a family of 7.

mugoftea456 · 23/01/2022 11:49

Daily.

saltandpepper234 · 23/01/2022 11:51

Is that a full clean daily?

OP posts:
saltandpepper234 · 23/01/2022 11:54

It’s not about competitive cleaning necessarily just that no one really tells you what is normal/necessary. I would hate someone to come round and think that my house wasn’t clean

I don't understand how your bathrooms can need so much cleaning Salt, not being snarky, I just don't.

itssquidstella · 23/01/2022 12:03

I clean my bathroom properly once a week, but I wipe down the loo and the sink daily.

Omicrone · 23/01/2022 12:03

Who has the time or inclination to clean their bathroom daily? Life's too short!

PAFMO · 23/01/2022 12:08

@Thethingswedoforlove

Once a week is surely normal
No.
saltandpepper234 · 23/01/2022 12:15

This is the debate we have in my house. DP says they don’t need cleaning so often so I shouldn’t be wasting my time/ complaining that I am the only one cleaning the bathroom but I just feel like bathrooms are pretty grim places when you think about it

Once a fortnight when my cleaner comes. Really do anything in between aside from washing the towels and wiping the surface once with a wipe...

I don't think that's something YOU need to worry about!!

Do you complain to your DH that you're fed up of doing it/he doesn't pull his weight/you're tired?? If not then why is he commenting on it?

I used to be like you, but I gave a couple of health issues and I'm just too aching/tired to keep up that level of immaculate these days. It's clean & that'll have to do these days. Best thing I ever bought though was a Harvey's Water Softner. I really notice the difference in the bathroom & kitchen.

Oblomov22 · 23/01/2022 12:32

Ds1 does our upstairs bathroom once a week.

Cross posted with you. I suspected that was the reason DP was commenting.

Years ago I used to have this debate & didn't agree with my DP at all and I used to say if it was left until he thought it needed to be done, it would be well past where it actually needed to be done. As I was fed up of the disagreements, we sorted out the jobs that we agreed needed to be done daily/weekly that he could get on with (kitchen bin emptied into outdoor bin/bins put out) cat litter trays daily etc etc and I carried on with my (in his opinion) OTT regime in the kitchen/bathroom etc. he did things like hoover twice a week too.

It worked well as I felt he was pulling his weight, the B&K were up to MY standards and he didn't feel he was doing pointless jobs for the sake of it.

It's ideal but sadly not the norm given the state of loos I've seen.

I try and do the loo and sink daily and the rest ....not so often.

BigWoollyJumpers · 23/01/2022 12:46

wipe the tiles with diluted bleach

What on earth are you getting on your tiles that needs that weekly.

God, I am such an unclean person. I washed down fully tiled bathrooms maybe once or twice in 20 years...... it's just dust. I don't regularly wipe down my walls either, surely no-one does?????

WaterBottle2 · 23/01/2022 13:01

Weekly clean and towel change but do use toilet cleaner or bleach daily down the loo.
