Gratefully signing in! Thanks!

First task is to finish the pens and pencils etc. I painted one of those wooden chest of drawers from ikea and the DCs started sorting out massive pen box into categories. We are forever scrabbling around for a working pen which considering one of my three kids is home educated is really not a good thing 🤣

8stone13 · 12/01/2022 15:08

Hello 👋🏻 🙂

Thanks for the new thread @Mommabear20

My next task is re-organising my organisation! Now I have my new all singing all dancing home office (by which I mean the back bedroom with a desk & filing cabinet in it 😀) I need to work out what I need in there & what can best be left in my downstairs bureau. I've already ordered a phone charger, made a note to buy a sellotape dispenser (Card Factory do those fab old fashioned heavy ones for £1.99 😀) & scissors & paper clips & other such items ✂️

Then all my filing needs to go in the actual filing cabinet which leaves the space in my sideboard where it once was which will not be filled with clutter 🤔**

stealthninjamum · 12/01/2022 16:03

Hello mommabear thank you for the new thread, I love seeing and hearing about peoples storage solutions so hope this thread will have lots of that!

In terms of organising I’m going to spend an hour tomorrow organising some of the thousands of files on my computer.

Riverhousepuppy · 12/01/2022 17:23

Hope it is ok to join.
My fave bit of organisation is my label maker. It is a joy to behold. Everything neatly labeled and in its place. Also means everyone else has no excuse for putting things back where they belong. Fully recommend to all

PenelopePitstop79 · 12/01/2022 17:26

@Riverhousepuppy can you recommend a particular label maker?

PenelopePitstop79 · 12/01/2022 17:27

I don't just have pesky, messy corners.

stmw123 · 12/01/2022 17:48

This is the thread for me!

My loft needs a proper declutter. We bought our house as FTB's 2.5 years ago, previous to this we lived with our parents and just had our bedrooms so I have absolutely no idea how my loft is so full. How have collected so much junk in such a small amount of time!?

I was considering getting a skip but to save money I'm going to do a few tip runs instead.

We also need a kitchen declutter. Kitchen is small and I love to cook so have a lot of stuff!

New storage unit for the dining room is arriving on Friday so I'm going to fill that with lesser used but necessary kitchen stuff (large serving bowls and similar) and organise everything a bit better in the kitchen. My baking cupboard is a disaster.

Mommabear20 · 12/01/2022 19:58

Welcome everyone!

I love the idea of a label maker but I doubt DH would be as enthusiastic about it 😂

@stmw123 a few of us on this thread are also post of a 'sister' thread specifically for decluttering if you'd like to join us over there too?
It's called 'Decluttering club thread 20(22)!'

Hello all and thanks for the new thread @Mommabear20. I'm still battling the clutter but would love other people's storage hacks....

Wildrobin · 12/01/2022 20:32

I am getting so down with our clutter I almost feel it’s beyond me to sort it. I’ve tried reading Marie Kondo and even that hasn’t helped. I will follow this thread but don’t feel very optimistic we can ever have a civilised space as it gets messy every single time I tidy it , within hours. It’s constant !

Dinosauraddict · 12/01/2022 20:41

Hey everyone, just joining from the sister decluttering thread! Had a good day today re organisation. Got the label maker out (Dymo Label Manager 160) and have labelled all the storage boxes in my room (knickers, socks, jeans, leggings, bras etc) DS' room, and my study. I've also labelled up all my suspension files for my new filing system (this weekend's job is probably the paperwork for that) and finally organised DS' toiletries.

Riverhousepuppy · 12/01/2022 21:29

The dymo label manager 160 is the one I have too. DH was not convinced at first but once I started labelling plugs and charger cables he was a convert.
I think it can help with just doing something. So you could start with something really easy like cables and then once you get labelling it helps keep the momentum going.

8stone13 · 12/01/2022 21:46

@Dinosauraddict I'm buying suspension files tomorrow. I'm embarrassingly excited by my new filing cabinet 😀

Dinosauraddict · 12/01/2022 21:50

@Riverhousepuppy I love my label maker, but I haven't labelled any cables - you have just inspired me!

@8stone13 - I got some lovely purple ones on Amazon. I like the ones that feel smooth like plastic, not rough like card, and also need to be extra strong so I don't have to worry about them collapsing.

CherryDocsInYrBalls · 12/01/2022 21:57

I bought a little lazy Susan from home bargains today for £1.49 and have put some condiments on it, also got little cupboard shelves so you can see the cans at the back of the cupboard. Also have a label maker, they're great, and I'm going to get some drawer organisers for bathroom next, again saw them in home bargains

Riverhousepuppy · 12/01/2022 22:01

@Dinosauraddict I like to do them so the label is sort of folded in half on the cable rather than length ways so it sticks back on itself if you know what I mean. All charger cables now easily identifiable ;-)
I also did the cutlery drawer too and forks and spoons haven't migrated as much

Tibtab · 12/01/2022 22:08

Sorted and paired all of our shoes today, everyone now has a box with their shoes and I have a bag for the charity shop sorted!

londonmummy1966 · 13/01/2022 01:23

For those that love a good label - Poundland has some nice chalkboard labels and chalks at the moment. I'v e been using them and find them really good.

londonmummy1966 · 13/01/2022 18:03

I decluttered and reorganised all my short hanging clothes today and rehomed my evening shoes. The wardrobe looks so much nicer now its organised - just hope I can keep it that way. Grin

Gassylady · 13/01/2022 21:30

Hello! I also need to organise food storage cupboard and shelves better. @CherryDocsInYrBalls are you able to post a link to your cupboard shelves or post a link? I also quite like the idea of some cute mini wooden crates to store tins on the open shelving unut, any recommendations?

TruffleNoir · 14/01/2022 12:18

Hello, joining this sub thread too!

I think I need tips on toy storage in a bedroom and kitchen storage as these are the areas that always look cluttered!

LivingInaBuildingSite · 14/01/2022 12:23

Joining from the Decluttering thread too.

My DH has a dymo label thing and loves it. He’s got loads of small boxes with kids from the Factory Shop all labelled on open shelves in his office for various stationery and other crap.

Ds1 wants me to label the shelves in the new fridge but I’m not sure about that!

BrieAndChilli · 14/01/2022 12:39

we moved last year and i made sure everything had a place in the new home.
My best idea was in the study we got some draw units that have wide shallow drawers (from ikea) then each drawer is full of different stuff and i use big drawer dividers. means you can open the drawer and see everything laid out rather than just boxes of stuff you have to dig though so we have a sewing drawer, cables etc drawer, stationery, batteries, art supplies, greetiing cards etc etc. of course there is 1 misc drawer for all the random stuff that doesnt fit a catergory!

makes it easierto keep the house tidy as eveything has a place

stealthninjamum · 14/01/2022 13:35

@Wildrobin are you ok? Do you want to tell us a bit more about yourself and your clutter problem? Someone might be able to help. It can be overwhelming, especially if you have young dc or unsupportive partners, but keep going and I promise it will get better.

I just realised I didn’t do the hour of digital organising I said I would. Will put it on the to do list for next week.

Another one her with a dymo label maker. All our stationery / crafts bits are labelled. I love it.

This week I bought some plastic A3 wallets. Dd2 loves drawing so all her little sketches are going in it (normally she leaves them lying around the house) Also she has a tutor so her work there is in the folder. I have also found a clipboard and I have designed a timetable in word which I will attach to it. Dd2 has autism so I am trying out ways of planning to help her. We already have a family calendar app but she never looks at it so I’m thinking she’ll look at something more visual so I might look for stickers to go on it.

BrieAndChilli · 14/01/2022 15:06

@Wildrobin how old are your kids/family? What is your schedule? I loved organising our new house and creating systems that worked for our busy family. I’d be more than happy to work out a plan for you!
