Sounds good, which room are the curtains in?

I love a box for keeping stuff contained. I did similar with sanpro when I did the bathroom cupboards and it went from being strewn over half a shelf to neatly in a box that takes up about 1/5 of the shelf.

My only achievement is going through teen dd’ clothes. One carrier bag gone from his room (and about half a bag of replacement stuff gone in but at least it all fits now!)

Oh I lie I’ve also collated all the lfts into one place and made them into complete tests (and a few with no fluid where we had to use two vials on one test) so we no longer have to walk around asking everyone if they have any fluid in order to do a test.

Other than that I’ve just done a few bits of tidying (dd2 bookcase, dd2 craft stuff) rather than reorganising, it’s amazing how I’m the only one who seems able to actually put it away and make it fit in the box rather than having to dump it on the top 🙄

Decluttered which created some space on a shelf, to be filled with books which are sitting around without a home.

Not sure if anyone is still watching this thread. But thought I would post about what we have been doing. So dh is off work for the the summer and decided that he would decorate the livingroom a couple of weeks ago. Ds and I were suppose to be away for the whole week but came home on the Wednesday. Anyway this has morphed into the hallway/stairs, playroom, dinning room and ds room being decorated and my desk being moved to the playroom and the toys
moving upstairs Into the spare room.

so in the last couple of the weeks the old
palyroom has been decorated and stuff has been swapped between both rooms. I am now in the process of trying to sort/organise all the craft stuff in to the old playroom. And the toys into the spare room. As well as unpacking after holidays.

as there was just so much stuff I have moved all the items that didn’t belong and needed sorting from the spare room into our room so the spare room is now set up with all the toys from the old playroom. Now I just need go through all the stuff in our room and get it put away.

Wow, that sounds like a lot of progress!
I'm trying to do a huge declutter over the summer, so that there's space to decorate my bedroom and the living room.
Youngest kid is now out of nappies, so the 2 nappy bins have been added to the junk pile

WildPoinsettia · 22/08/2022 12:31

Been a while since I posted on this thread.

Now that my kitchen has been cleared of junk it's looking really good. I've simplified my cleaning regimen which freed up some space, I had far too many different products and cloths etc. I've got a shiny new cooker in the junk space now, that's how much junk I had!

For the future my kitchen plans include having the hoover, mop etc in there so all the cleaning things are in one place. At the moment there's still things in the way of that which need to stay where they are for now. I'm also going to be getting a basket trolley on wheels to provide moveable storage in a space where it's impractical to have a cupboard.

My upstairs landing is my real success. Everything that lives there now is in a storage cupboard, no more piles of things in the floor.

My bathroom is freshly decorated with all the storage solutions I need in place. The only clutter is my stash of beauty products which I'm slowly working my way through. I gathered them all into categories so I can easily see how much of each item I have (too many!) and this has stopped me from buying any new things.

The rest of the place is still a work in progress but it's all looking a lot better. Using an area for its best purpose and having the right storage really does make all the difference.

@GlumyGloomer It’s hard trying to decorate with young kids around. With switching the rooms around, both were in a mess before anyway, I’ve ended up moving all the junk and bits that need to be sorted and dumping them in our room and the dinning room as I find it hard to sort and organise around stuff. I’m fine getting the big bits sorted but it’s all the little things that I then struggle with.

@WildPoinsettia well done! It’s sounds like you’ve got loads done especially in the the kitchen. It’s nice when an area is sorted and looks nice.

I’m still sorting and moving things. At the beginning of the summer holidays, just before we went away I decided to sort through my clothes I had a pole
left and I just shoved them in an empty drawer. Well yesterday I sorted that out so now at least everything has somewhere to go.

I’ve spent a little time today going through go the bits left in the dinningroom and putting everything in a bag for life that belongs upstairs. I’ve also sorted the shoe rack in the new craft room.
At times is does feel like I’m just moving clutter about but each time a bit more gets sorted.

GlumyGloomer · 23/08/2022 19:24

@toomanyhobbies it is so hard with young kids! We moved into our current place with a 3yo and a 2mo, and agreed that 2 adults plus kids moving was a million times harder than 1 adult alone doing all the work.

Today I chucked loads of crap out of the box room (2 bin bags). Last of the cleaning chemicals removed so i can now leave the door open, which is an odd feeling. I'm bracing myself to have a go at changing the light fitting myself. I know I should be quite capable of it, my Dad used to do it, but still the fear that I will somehow electrocute myself of burn the house down remains....
Ironically I can't ask my Dad for help as he's now firmly of the opinion that getting someone in is the way to go 😏

toomanyhobbies · 07/09/2022 20:25

Did you change the light fitting @GlumyGloomer?

so this week marked returning to school/ work for me and Ds. Dh off for another 2 weeks.
the majority of stuff from swapping the rooms over is sorted there are still a couple of piles of stuff about.

good news is the pile of cook books from the floor in our room have now been moved to their new home on a shelf in the livingroom. The ones we don’t want have gone to the charity shop.

Today I cleaned out Dh car boot, he said most of it was junk he had moved from my car as mine was going on holiday with us. It’s all hoover and found a load of bags for life that he had put under the mat in the wheel well god knows when!

I emptied out my car Monday so it could be cleaned ready for the MOT. I went through the bag from my car (still had the beach shoes from our holiday at the beginning of August 😁). My car now bags for life, dog towel and walking boots, picnic blanket, bucket & spade and kite in the boot as well as some pac-a-macs now just need to remember I have these things there ready for last minute outings!

GlumyGloomer · 07/09/2022 22:55

Not yet 😅. My youngest starts nursery next week, so I'll probably give it a go then. I did ask my dad in the end, and he was actually quite reassuring that it was doable. Fingers crossed. Everyone is tired and grumpy this week from my eldest being back at school, so nothings been done.

EmmaH2022 · 12/09/2022 09:47

Anyone up for chat/accountability today?

my flat is a mess generally, I have to do a full on tidy & organise of it today! I tend to be on top of cleaning but do it by moving stuff around a lot!

the idea is be offline by 10 and do an hour, then have a break. I also have to go the supermarket, other shops for a birthday gift, and defrost the freezer. No work today, so if I get all this done today, I can start my week tomorrow from a much better place.

GlumyGloomer · 12/09/2022 14:57

How's it going @EmmaH2022 ? I'm meant to be taking out the recycling which has overrun the kitchen today, but I'm sat watching Pink Fong with the preschooler instead...

EmmaH2022 · 12/09/2022 15:44

Glumy that made me lol!

I got going later than I should have. Cracking on again shortly....should have restarted at 3!

GlumyGloomer · 12/09/2022 16:55

We got it done eventually, the kids helped a bit.
Late is better than never!
