Can I join in I’m seriously decluttering soon I’m leaving I hope so need to decluttering. The Christmas stuff in my drawers will go this week.

Debsdonein · 05/01/2022 21:46

Am I allowed to say I decluttered my pants and bra draw today. Who needs 52 pairs of pants 🙈

ememem84 · 05/01/2022 22:57

DH broke a pasta bowl today. Silly billy. And I binned some booze as hell chocolates.

Nordicmom · 06/01/2022 00:15

In the end I did get 25 items removed from the attic , unpacked several cardboard boxes and packed in plastic labelled boxes and organised . Also brought down a small stack of bigger new clothes for DD so smaller ones will be decluttered as well not saved . I’d say it’s now about 1/3-1/2 done up there so promising . I didn’t go back up there today instead I folded the huge clean laundry mountain and finished kids thank you cards . there were about 30 more outs today I’m now at about 172 items since I finished last decluttering challenge . DS helped by dusting everywhere and undressed the tree ready to take out tomorrow . I’ll pack the decorations away and DH will pick up the new car . Now just waiting for DS provisional licence to arrive and we can book some lessons for next month when he’s 17. DH found out about lessons today . Progress being made on many fronts but just feeling so tired all the time and useless and like there’s always too much to bloody do . Should call and find out about my blood test results as well when I remember ...

londonmummy1966 · 06/01/2022 00:34

@IncessantNameChanger - I can so relate to that as DC1 has SEN issues but is now studying on a nearly full scholarship at Royal College of Music - none of the very bright 12 A* pupils in her year can come close to that - just remember that SEN kids have their own superpowers and will find their own path. I've come home from many a parents evening in tears but she is so worth it. Flowers

@DrMadelineMaxwell I like your style with decluttering the alcohol....

Not a huge amount done here today as I took the little one shopping for her 18th birthday present. Been fleeced in Tiffany..... Shocking thing is that back in November I reported on decluttering the baby sippy cups and cutlery (hangs head in shame).

However inspired by various people on here I opened a Vinted account and have sold 2 things in 24 hours!!! I also listed a load of stuff on ebay and have sold 3 and 2 have a lot of watchers. Decided to try and prompt a watcher into a buyer so have listed those items on Vinted as well and added to the ebay listing that they are also listed elsewhere. Will have to wait and see.

Out - just one ebay and one Vinted item taken to the sorting office. In one ridiculously expensive Tiffany necklace.

I know someone mentioned that some people on last year's thread found the Toss app helpful. I found it via a review of decluttering apps and have been following it for my "declutter one thing a day" resolution. I work full-time so it's really helpful to know I just need to head to a certain area or category and do a quick clear out. Yesterday it was the car glove box - chucked some rubbish and an ancient sat nav, found a pack of masks (useful).

IncessantNameChanger · 06/01/2022 07:38

Thanks for the understanding. Such a hard day. I told ds9 that I looked at a school as he will one day move to a big school. Bless him he didnt understand and said what about my friends? I'm heartbroken all over again.

I did finally earmark some of his outgrown clothes into a charity bag. I will have a slow gental week I think. I'm going to see my gp tomorrow too if I can. I keep crying all the time. It's not like me at all.

stealthninjamum · 06/01/2022 09:51

londonmummy that’s a lovely story. I’m in the process of looking for a school for dd2 who has diagnosed autism and pda syndrome too and we haven’t yet worked out her ‘superpower’. It’s lovely to hear success stories.

viking I used Toss last year during the jan to March lockdown and loved it. The only problem is it ran out of areas after about a month but it really motivated me.

Todays our is a school bag. Dd2 broke her branded school bag last night. I found a spare one for her to use. It feels good to have things organised. I used to keep buying things but now I’m more aware of the spare things I have.

Dinosauraddict · 06/01/2022 10:58

Please look after yourself @IncessantNameChanger !

Today is my first day back at work post-Christmas so I got up early before DS woke to continue clearing out - 10 tops, 2 pairs of pjs, 1 pair of socks plus 3 odd socks and a pair of jeans all gone! I've also organised all my jeans and leggings properly with storage boxes and Marie Kondo folds. Very pleased with progress today.

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 12:05

Is this the thread for those who are convinced that as quickly as they chuck stuff out of the front of the house, someone else must be bringing it in round the back? If so, can I join? 😀

I'm on a mission to declutter my house. It's just me, teen DS & pre-teen DD but my boring suburban 4 bed has got enough stuff in it to kit out a hotel. Or so it feels - I'm naturally minimalist but my ex-wife loved clutter. We've been happily apart for several years & over the last 18 months or so I've been spending time re-decorating & re-organising my home. I've gone on warp speed since New Year - I've done one tip trip & there's another planned (we can recycle clothes & toys there), I have bags of stuff for charity & I'm currently re-organising all seasonal storage. I've made two strategic decisions:

  1. Stop being so sentimental - you do not need to keep those threadbare Mummy Pig socks because they were a Mother's Day present in 2009. Put the most important nostalgic memory-type items in one safe place & chuck the rest

  2. Stop planning to sell stuff & actually get on with it - list at least one item per day on eBay/Gumtree/FB Marketplace

So far it's going well 👍🏻 Hoping this thread will keep me motivated & be a good place to record success 😀

LittleTwiglet · 06/01/2022 12:32

I'm loving seeing all the motivation and progress made by you all the last few days. I'm trying to summon up the same for myself today, but just doesn't seem to be happening. In fact I'm feeling quite down today. Whilst DS is napping and DD is watching Peppa Pig I'm just sat here watching the flames of our fire and chucking on logs every now and again 😞

DooDahDah · 06/01/2022 12:35

I'm drowning at the moment.

The house is a mess. I need to clean before I can declutter. I am ashamed of how we are living.

I understand @IncessantNameChanger. I have 3 primary aged DC with additional needs (Asd and ADHD) and it really hits you sometimes. Mine are in mainstream with 1 to 1 support. The eldest dd is flourishing in her current school, but with so many adjustments, that a formal ECHP hasn't been needed. This has now come back to bite me on the arse as I never pushed for it, and we have little control over her senior school allocation.

I need to get back on top of the house, and you can't clean clutter!

LivingInaBuildingSite · 06/01/2022 13:03

@IncessantNameChanger - hugs for you x

@8stone13 - Yep you’re in the right place lol! Secret makers of clutter live here too. I need the Borrowers to come and steal some stuff, but then again they only take tiny bits.

@LittleTwiglet - annoy the fire and the rest, we all need rest days too.

@stealthninjamum - think you’re still in last year!

Have diverted Ds2 from home schooling for a bit to try on some clothes from the too big drawer and gone through his wardrobe. Thanks school 😂
15 items out, well in a bag to pass along to a friends ds. Must do soonish though as lots of winter pjs.

Also, a random homemade brooch out that a friend made me years ago before she fell out with me for being the bearer of bad news. I stupidly volunteered to pass along the news s thought we were such good friends it was best coming from me 🤷‍♀️
Can’t really wear the brooch I don’t feel anymore.

2022 out:
27+16=43

In:
Nothing yet that isn’t consumables like dw and laundry tabs just arrived by post. Can’t really count that as clutter but does get in the way until my utility room is built!

TruffleNoir · 06/01/2022 14:43

2 outs and 2 ins today 😬 although I've now been planning which toys are going and I've got about ten so far to be either donated or hopefully sold 🤔

Mommabear20 · 06/01/2022 15:07

Dropped 2 more bags off at the garage today and now feel very happy with the amount of stuff in the house. There is probably more that could go and there's definitely too many toys for my liking, but with 2 small kids I think I just need to accept that the toys are here to stay! 😂

My next task is too declutter the garage 😂 gonna try and get up there for a few hours tomorrow morning if my mum will watch the kids and get a few bits listed on gumtree and marketplace 🤞🤞

I really can’t wait till tomorrow then I start big time.

batmanladybird · 06/01/2022 16:54

Talk to me about selling stuff

. I have so much, even unwanted Xmas gifts that I am not sure a charity would want but someone would be glad of.
I listed a load of stuff on eBay before Xmas and paused the stuff that hadn't sold and it's unpaused now

I am looking for an indoor boot sale
Ideally

Dinosauraddict · 06/01/2022 17:10

An unexpectedly productive afternoon here. DH decided to help and actually threw out 3 towels (I'm very pleased with him) which spurred me on to do even more so another 12 items of assorted clothing in the bag for charity shop! Grin

Bigoldhag · 06/01/2022 17:28

I fell off the last couple of days - dog has been poorly and it makes me anxious too. She’s ok now, thankfully.

I’ve not decluttered except one solitary receipt, four ebay items which sold and got posted today, totalling about £56 after postage and fees and then one hat and set of gloves in the charity pile.

Going to pick up after dinner.

Namechangesagain · 06/01/2022 18:15

@Nordicmom and @DooDahDah i can completely empathise. I keep getting overwhelmed by the house and how much we need to get rid of but i keep the same mantra for cleaning the house that i did for exercising/ losing weight that going slowly is better than not moving/ changing at all. Even 1 thing a day =365 things out the house by the end of the year

On the upside very productive day here. 10 items sold on vinted. 2 on Facebook and an old scooter collected for free

8stone13 · 06/01/2022 18:20

I've never used Vinted - is it better than eBay?

Namechangesagain · 06/01/2022 18:24

@8stone13

I've never used Vinted - is it better than eBay?
@8stone13 its a much simpler system. No bidding. You set the price and the buyer pays the fees and the postage. You can put multibuy discount on. The only downside is you have to list everything cheaply. I list everything for £1 because the market is saturated with children clothes and I just want it gone!!
TruffleNoir · 06/01/2022 20:33

I'm interested in Vinted too but always unsure what to do about postage prices.

Proud of myself I've made some ads on Facebook Marketplace and on Gumtree for my toy cull. Fingers crossed something sells.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 06/01/2022 20:38

I've been working today but still managed to sell some unused makeup on Vinted, hoping to tidy the kitchen table (which is a problem area) later.

With regards to postage, if you go into your settings you can select which carriers you offer. Check which drop off points you have near you and then select as many as your willing to drop off at. I offer royal mail, inpost and UPS but not Hermies as I don't have a drop off near by.

When your listing an item you have 'small, medium, and large' Small would be large letter size from Royal Mail, medium is small parcel size, and large is large parcel size. So if its a single t shirt ship small, but if its more bulky like a pair of jeans ship medium.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 06/01/2022 21:51

2 carrier bags of tatt thrown away today. Random stuff.

3 bottles of old wine (given to me many years ago - I don't drink wine and noone does in this house) dated about 2012 went down the sink today as I have been unable to give it away to anyone I know too!

Some books and stationery that the grown dds no longer want will go with me tomorrow to my classroom when I go in for the training day.
