Threw away a pile of junk mail, hopefully having a blitz of the Kitchen tomorrow.

LifeOfBriony · 08/01/2022 22:31

I tried this last year but it was intermittent. Intermittent is better than nothing though so I'll try again.

I went through a box of assorted paperwork and have shredded quite a lot and put a lot in the recycling bin. We tidied and rearraged the front room, having taken the decorations down on Thursday. DH has boxes of stuff that needs going through too; he has identified some computer bits that can go but now he needs to actually move them on, not just identify what can go.

I have a bag of books to go but our nearest charity shop will only take those in almost new condition so a special trip elsewhere will be required. Time to take stuff to where it is to be donated is a problem - we both work full-time so this can only be done on Saturdays. I know I have some towels that can go to the animal clinic but that is only open on Saturday mornings.

We have made a start!

stealthninjamum · 08/01/2022 22:41

I put a book in the declutter pile and dc looked through 15 craft sets and were happy to get rid of all of them. So I’ve just put them in freecycle and the unopened ones on Facebook. They make a huge pile but it’s the tip of the iceberg of craft sets.

42 items decluttered so far in 2022.

Pineappleapple · 09/01/2022 02:57

A leaflet I had stored just in case I needed the info, and a same moisturiser I will never use both gone. Only tiny outs yesterday but something at least

Mommabear20 · 09/01/2022 07:11

4 outs and a major organise last night while bathing DD (she plays happily by herself now and our bathrooms tiny so I'm literally always next to the bath 😂) tidied the cupboard under the sink, found 1 tube of OOD deep heat that went in the bin and 3 unopened packets of pregnancy vitamins that I'm gonna advertise for free on Facebook marketplace as they're no good to me now, then reorganised everything into the correct baskets! Looks so much better and can actually see what we've got now!

Me and DH decluttered a box of Christmas chocolate yesterday…

Today i need to drop a first birthday present round to my friends little boy. So that’ll be a nice out. They have covid. So will also drop round some cake and treats.

seperatedmum · 09/01/2022 08:24

didn't feel well after work yesterday but determined to continue so was just two damp pieces of craft yesterday plus 2 unsubscribes. would you say it's worth selling old dead iPhones?

Pineappleapple · 09/01/2022 09:08

Emenem good work on the chocolate Grin

SydneyCarton · 09/01/2022 09:17

Very productive couple of days here. Took two bags of children’s clothes to the charity shop on Friday, and yesterday I took down a wooden fairy castle dolls house which has been taking up space in the living room for the last couple of years. The children never play with it (except sometimes DS who launches dinosaur attacks on it or throws the inhabitants off the tower Hmm), so I listed it on Olio and it was snapped up in 13 minutes Grin. Should be collected today.

Also put together a bag of books for charity and threw out a couple of used up craft kits and a magic set which DD1 got a duplicate of for Christmas. Can actually see clear space emerging!

4 out of date cereal boxes with just a covering of cereal left in each one Blush

stealthninjamum · 09/01/2022 12:44

2 drinks bottles to go.

Dinosauraddict · 09/01/2022 14:21

Middling day here, in the to-go pile is 1 cushion, a lot of old stationery and some old paperwork. Mainly been focused on organisation rather than de-cluttering though, so I've organised all my jumpers and DH's toiletries.

IncessantNameChanger · 09/01/2022 15:20

We have mostly cleared our garage on block today as it's due to be demolished. A car load out and a new scooter and chest of draws from.the recycling shop in.

I'm on a new anti anxiety medication and I feel so tired and dizzy. Not sure what to do but I cant keep bursting into tears either.

Children's disability SW is finally coming tomorrow but I'm so tired I just want to go back to bed. I'm going to have to be Frank with her that as much as socail care has been cut, so has the NHS and education and culmatively this is the reality.

RaspberryBlonde · 09/01/2022 15:33

Hope that the new medication starts to work soon Incessant.

Not too much going out here this weekend , DD is ill so had to take for a PCR test and seem to be massively behind with housework and general life admin. Going to attempt to find something now!

8stone13 · 09/01/2022 15:46

I was doing really well - got rid of a load more stuff at the tip, dropped a load of stuff to charity yesterday - but I've just put my Christmas decorations in my loft & been once again astonished at what's up there. If I say there's a book inscribed for my first Christmas in 1975, my first doll from 1978, my A level notes from 1992-4 & everything my children have ever owned since the first was born in 2007 that may give an indication of the scale of the problem 😱

I hired a skip last summer & chucked out all the rubbish that was up there. I filled a 4 ton skip with bits of broken toys, jigsaws with missing pieces & goodness knows what else - I remember I found 2 defunct hairdryers - I mean who on earth puts not one but two broken hairdryers in a loft?! What's left up there are all sentimental things from childhood & tons of toys & books which need to be sold. It's going to have to be a work in progress.

ememem84 · 09/01/2022 16:02

Sorted out some toys for the dc to take to dparents tomorrow.

DH has used up some grass seed so the box no longer clutters up the garage.

Made two lasagnes and have put one for the freezer.

ememem84 · 09/01/2022 16:04

May have already noted this down but inspired by @8stone13 ‘s post above I feel I should note that dm emptied her loft the other day. And asked me if I wanted all of my school work. From reception to year 13. Plus 4 years of uni. I had no idea she’d kept it all.

I distinctly remember pulling all the paperwork out of files from uni and putting them for the bin. I suspect dm has retrieved them. And saved them.

Surprisingly I didn’t want things.

LifeOfBriony · 09/01/2022 16:42

DH has said he can do a charity shop run this week, so I have sorted out a pair of trousers that I like until I put them on; a top which was part of a 3 for 2 offer (I like and wear the 2, but not the third) and another top which has faded.
Also some red towels which are ok, but have to be washed separately, a threadbare towel and a bottom sheet.

Towels and bedding can go to the animal clinic and the other items to the attached charity shop - along with the bag of books mentioned in my previous post and a baby alarm type thing.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 09/01/2022 16:51

A friend told me about me typing her loft for building work and offered her twin girls (by then about 25) all their sentimental stuff. They binned the lot. She was quite shocked as she felt she’d kept it for them to have when older. I’m trying to keep a lot less for mine since!

  • Have completed a Christmas jigsaw and put in pile to give away (was a sort of present from Dd but I don’t want to keep it sorry!).
  • 2 x running tops that are too big for me (given away at the end of events but even the small is too big).

(Plus I’m helping run a silly event in a couple of weeks where people auction off their unwanted presents & tat. Sadly some of it is gathering in my house until the event. But I’m not counting it as I’m taking to the event and not bringing it home!)

Mommabear20 · 09/01/2022 17:00

Very counter productive day here! 🤦‍♀️ DH had kids while I went and loaded the car with clothes that have been moved to the garage that needed dropping off at our local cash for clothes, car was full (I mean literally FULL! ) only to get there to find their listed opening times on Facebook are wrong and they don't open on Sundays 😡 so it's now sat in my lounge waiting to go on Thursday when I have a day off!

I have however been in touch with a local charity shop about arranging a collection of all the odd bits and bobs that are in the garage, I'll just dig out the bigger items that I think is worth selling, and they can have the rest!

OP posts:
LivingDeadGirlUK · 09/01/2022 17:12

I feel like I've moved a lot of stuff around today, not got rid though!

Did some more shredding, through out some paper leaflets etc, gifted 12 books.

SuperDiaperBaby · 09/01/2022 19:43

Old books and clothes - sort of sentimental when they went into the cupboard years ago but not when I pulled them out!

seperatedmum · 09/01/2022 19:47

still not great 🤕 just a few empty toiletry bottles from bathroom and eldest's outgrown undies out today. he's said he'll go through his clothes for me tho

seperatedmum · 09/01/2022 19:49

@Mommabear20 sort of similar I carted a load of previously sentimental things to a charity shop once which hadn't advertised that they'd paused accepting and I was like "what do I do now?" 🥺
