I need your washing machine recommendations for one that will last!

Ours has suddenly died after 5 years, unfixable. We already have a washing backlog and we have family coming to stay in 2 weeks so need to buy a new one quickly but there are so many to choose from, so many reviews and such a big price range, I don't know where to start!

Reviews also don't consider how long they tend to last so I'd really appreciate any of your recommendations (or ones not to buy) from your experiences.

Looking to spend around £500 - £600 but can consider more if it's worth the extra.

We can see this thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with lots of great options loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Beko

Duvetdweller · 27/11/2021 09:07

My miele has a 10 year warranty - it’s marvellous

LavenderAskew · 27/11/2021 09:07

I'd recommend a Bosh machine.

Always got at least 10 years out of one, my illawarra the same.

FingersofFish · 27/11/2021 09:08

Our Samsung which was brill just went at the 5 year point. Fixable for about £200 so I've replaced with another Samsung. Bosch is the best I've ever had for reliability so not sure if I'm a fool not to have got one of those but I just loved my broken washer.

Wingingitsince2018 · 27/11/2021 09:08

John Lewis own brand. I have had mine 8 years and it has done 2 house moves, my mum has had her slightly fancier model for what must easily be 12 years now and not a single issue with either.

Sonex · 27/11/2021 09:09

I've had 2 Siemens in 20 years. large family band on almost every day and they always seem to last or be fixable.

JaffavsCookie · 27/11/2021 09:09

We got a John Lewis one as they have a great guarantee on them. Ours has worked really hard for its living.

IAmHereForTheFood · 27/11/2021 09:10

My hot point is currently around 8 years old. The previous hotpoint was nearly 10 years old.

DH had to change the bushes a couple of times on each of them but no other issues.

I will never buy Beko anything again after the oven I bought was so rubbish I could actually put my hand on the oven floor when it had been on at 200degrees for nearly an hour!

Polmuggle · 27/11/2021 09:10

For longevity you want Bosch or Miele. You absolutely do not want a beko!

verybadhairdoo · 27/11/2021 09:12

LG. Had mine 8 years and still going strong

Ifailed · 27/11/2021 09:15

Miele, and if you can afford it, look at their professional range.

bookbook · 27/11/2021 09:21

Miele every time

Quickchangeartiste · 27/11/2021 09:26

Siemens - current one is on every day sometimes multiple times - 7 years old - no problems

redpandaalert · 27/11/2021 09:28

We will now avoid Miele as yea there is a warranty but there are long lead times to get a Miele engineer - a week waiting for an engineer and no functioning washing machine several times is a pain. Replaced with a Bosch

Jennalong · 27/11/2021 09:30

Siemens , ours is 12-14 years old , and two house moves.

Shtsandgiggles · 27/11/2021 09:31

When it comes to washing machines as well as things like dishwashers it is not just which one you buy but also how you look after them

It is always advisable to to clean the washing machine with vinegar by running a cycle so stop thinks like the pumps and heating elements getting blocked up and limescale building up on them which eventually could break the washing machine

CimCardashian · 27/11/2021 09:35

My repairman said to get a Bosch…. They’re repairable whereas so many aren’t.

If I was loaded I’d get a posh Miele. But I’m not so have a Bosch 9kg

That's subjective. Beko has received great reviews in Which for longevity.
Simonjt · 27/11/2021 09:37

Miele, they have an outlet, you download their daily stock list then call them (to make sure it is still in stock) and arrange payment and delivery over the phone.

We also have a Hoover one which is now nearly 12 years old! It's been brilliant and really didn't cost a lot as we had hardly any money when we had to replace the previous one that broke after just over 2 years (can't remember what that one was!). It's probably nearing the end of it's life now, but I've never been one to regularly treat with vinegar or anything so I'm pretty happy I've had good value out of it. My Aunt has a new Bosch and is pretty unimpressed with it for the money, though I know many on here love theirs.

Sonex · 27/11/2021 10:01

Siemens and Bosch are effectively bthe same remember, Siemens is the top range Bosch, made in same factories etc.

I have a local repair guy who services ours every now and again. He also says buy Siemens or Bosch. He used to work there. Says Miele also excellent but he doesn't think worth the price differential. I'd buy Siemens or Miele I think if I ever need a new one. Current Siemens one is about 6 years old and still going strong. Previous one I had for 15 years.

pickingdaisies · 27/11/2021 10:03

Our old one was a Bosch. It took two and a half to three hours to do a cotton wash. Check the wash times of whichever one you get! I've got a Miele now, had it years it's brilliant. Although I am dreading it ever going wrong because Miele repairs are so expensive.

Froppysue · 27/11/2021 10:14

I just had to get a bee machine as ours died after only 3.5 years, we had a fancy Samsung one, 2 engineers wouldn’t even come out to fix Samsung, and the third said they often broke and we’re far too expensive to fix.
He recommended going for something ‘cheap and cheerful’ and said Bosch are the most easily repaired.
None of the Bosch ones I wanted were in stock so I just went for a cheap hotpoint, AO had better prices and delivery charges. but slightly longer delivery in my area so I went with curry’s who delivered in 2 days, but I don’t rate their delivery service tbh.

Froppysue · 27/11/2021 10:14

New, not bee
