I need your washing machine recommendations for one that will last!

Ours has suddenly died after 5 years, unfixable. We already have a washing backlog and we have family coming to stay in 2 weeks so need to buy a new one quickly but there are so many to choose from, so many reviews and such a big price range, I don't know where to start!

Reviews also don't consider how long they tend to last so I'd really appreciate any of your recommendations (or ones not to buy) from your experiences.

Looking to spend around £500 - £600 but can consider more if it's worth the extra.

We can see this thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with lots of great options loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

These are great recommendations, thank you all. I am definitely getting a good picture of the ones to look at and things to consider.

@redpandaalert

We will now avoid Miele as yea there is a warranty but there are long lead times to get a Miele engineer - a week waiting for an engineer and no functioning washing machine several times is a pain. Replaced with a Bosch
They use ‘Trusted Partners’ for repairs now. My Miele broke down last week (very unusual after only six years) and I could have waited a week for the actual Miele engineer or opt for their Trusted Partner (Pacifica in my area) which I did, and they came next day.

LG. I've had two. Lasts years and years, a real workhorse and no problems.

Mine is a Hotpoint. About 6 years old.

I'd recommend getting one that holds a decent load and nnot overloading it

Siemens freestanding machines come with a 5 year warranty and should last you much longer than that. Miele currently have no extended warranties but are tested to last 20 years or 10 thousand hours of use. There are supply problems with all white goods at the moment so you may have little choice.

I'd only ever buy a Siemens, a Bosch or a Miele. My current one is a Siemens, 15 years old and still going strong If you get a fairly basic version of a good brand there are fewer bells and whistles to go wrong.

Bosch. Last one was second hand but still lasted me 10 years in a household that did at least 2 loads of washing every single day.
