Darkness drawing in, Fledgling flying through November

So another month another thread.

first things first: Naughty corner is over there ----> stocked with comfy chairs, blankies, cupboard of comfort food of your desire, something strong if you require and a nice warming fire.

Right next up the formalities.
We loosely follow the fly lady system. It does work if you follow it, but many of us have found that it works better if you combine it with an additional decluttering system to speed up that process. Flylady is more of a maintence system and build routines to prevent system

This is a loooooong running thread. We seem clicky but welcome new blood to the brood, and you will soon catch up. We don't leave fledglings behind. But also we would like to remind you that perfectionism and comparison can be thieves of joy.

This year has been hard, this winter looks like it will also be hard. So remember to be kind to yourselves. We are all juggling a lot. The house, work, kids, animals, partners, bills, being the family brain. This thread is here to support. So if it looks like sometimes we chat more than we fly, then that is ok. Life is more than living in a show home, and real life is chaotic, messy and loud and that is just what it is.

So welcome to November's thread

Woolly love your Christmas pillowcase.
Up sounds like you are very organised.
Zoo sorry you are feeling ill. I agree with Hills that you need to put yourself first for a little while. Palpitations and breathlessness needs attention, I think a visit to GP is in order as could be related. Ill mother no use to DTeens if incapacitated!
Bramble That is awful what bitches. I would actually report that to Nursery Manager. If they say it again I think I would challenge it with. ”Did you ride a bike in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Wouldn’t be recommmended by the midwife as balance already impaired due to large bump! “ otherwise a short” Mind your own business!”
Hills perhaps they would be so kind as to come and show you how!
Had a friend in Scotland with a long narrow series of dormer windows. Everest arrived with windows. Took all the windows out. Fitted the new windows— six inches too small all of them. They wanted to leave with plastic over, they lived right next to the beach. She told them in no uncertain terms that they needed to put the old windows back in as she was on her own with three young children. They put them back in.😁

Goth great to hear from you.
Hope sounds busy at your house.
Hazel I bet people love coming to your house. Food sounds delicious.

Just having a coffee. Now in the boudoir. Needs tidied AGAIN.
Two baskets of washing to put away. Sheets and duvet cover to go on bed.
Researching door curtain. The one I wanted is expensive so may have to settle for something else or raid fabric box as piece in there too short but I have some velvet. Might be a project.hmm!
I wanted Strawberry thief in red and two lampshades which would finish,, just need to finish dining room. Clear table and dust everywhere.

Swish and swipe✅
Vacuumed✅
Sorted some paperwork and put away.✅

Pof3
Put washing away
Change bedding.
Sort BRC

HazelNuttyElf · 25/11/2021 14:36

Oooh hope enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner!
Red what door are you needing a curtain for? It sounds cozy, but also sounds like it would keep cold out if there was a draft.
hills yay for warmer house! But sorry you all have a headache. At least you know the new windows should save you money on heating now.
zoo enjoy your knitting. Sorry to hear about DD2, but glad they are finally moving forward with assessments. I agree with others though, you really must insist to be seen at the doctors. It could be something serious. If your doctor doesn't take the time and for you in, I would be very surprised.

YesTaDas:
🥧 got some white chicken chili/ soup in the slow cooker before leaving for work
🥧 worked a short day, took some time off in the afternoon
🥧 went to ILs, picked up paper plates for today's dinner
🥧 went to the liquor store to get some spirits I want expecting to get (after talking to FIL)
🥧 made rolls for DD to take to work
🥧 went to the grocery store to pick up a few things, including pie crust since the one I had in the freezer got freezer burnt, no such luck so made my own, again (it's easy, but a little time consuming)
🥧 rotated DW x2
🥧 had DS help me make my creamy pecan pie
🥧 cooked bacon with help from DH
🥧 made 2 cheese balls, one vegetarian, the other with bacon, which I happened to cut my finger pretty deep while cutting the bacon, so DH took over

DH and DS managed a few ta das of their own while I was at work.
😀 dusted the house
😀 vacuumed the house
😀 cleaned the bathrooms
😀 tidied everywhere
😀 sorted the fridge contents out some more (I did it the other day, but DH went through the jars of pickles etc, since they're his)

I did relax on the couch after cleaning up the kitchen, at about 9:30pm, fell asleep on said couch by 10pm, went to bed an hour later but then couldn't fall asleep until almost midnight.

Ta Das so far (7:30am):
☕ 1 cup of coffee drank
That's it! I do have more things to do, we're eating late though (5-6pm) so shouldn't have to rush getting things done.
Things to do: lots!
I will have help from DD today too (she had to work yesterday) and she's actually making the bulk of the food today: mashed potatoes, candied yams, deviled eggs, jalapeño poppers, her vegetarian gravy, and I think there's something else too, but I could be wrong.

Happy Thanksgiving hazel

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/11/2021 14:44

Also@Dancingtomusic I've tagged you as I remember you wanted to see finished blankie and pace is fast on this thread sometimes

HazelNuttyElf · 25/11/2021 15:18

Thank you zoo I love the blanket, it's adorable and looks like it was hard to make (I don't knit though so it all looks hard to me, but this especially)

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/11/2021 15:23

hazel I'd say moderate, bit I've been knitting over 49 years(taught as a very young child).the edging was the tricky bit, they're little leaves

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/11/2021 15:23

*over 40 years

IWillWearThatGlitteryWoolly · 25/11/2021 16:08

Happy Thanksgiving Hazel!

Zoo that blanket is so beautiful, you are very clever with your fingers.

Bramble what abominably rude other mothers at nursery. A bicycle would be most unsafe at your stage of pregnancy.

Hills hope the window issue is fully resolved.

My day has rather ground to a halt due to the need for an unexpected 90 minute nap. I slept so hard I didn't.know where I was when I woke.up, though, so I conclude I needed it!

HalfHope · 25/11/2021 17:01

ooh thanks Hazelnutty- I was just thinking of you! It's 5pm here and the turkey crown is ready to go in. I have Cauliflower cheese, roast mashed squash, broccoli, roast potatoes and stuffing balls. I am currently road testing the red wine. We have posh gravy and cranberry sauce. No dessert because we'll be stuffed. American football is ready to watch!

Glad you had lovely sleep woolly. Gorgeous knittery zoo. Hope you are holding up Hills as any house reno stuff is stressful as involves people

HalfHope · 25/11/2021 17:02

Waves to Red - there is to be snow up here over next few days.

HazelNuttyElf · 25/11/2021 17:33

Ha! hope American football is one Thanksgiving tradition we do NOT partake in thank goodness!

So far pastry is in the pie dish, in the fridge, waiting to go into the oven, while we make the filling (pumpkin). The cheese board is ready and in the fridge, ranch dip is made, pumpkin roll is out of the freezer. Turkey is in the roasting pan and on, FIL said it will take 6 hours, not 4.5. Still a fair bit to go, but starting with the pumpkin pie, since it'll have to cool.

SingToTheSky · 25/11/2021 20:13

Ugh feeling sicky headachy again. Seems to be a hormonal thing, about a week after my period ends. Meeting was good though, and I made it to a home ed meet which was lovely. Feeling like life can get a bit more normal now.

❗️Move laundry on and put another LOL on
❗️Find and send maths homework/lesson link for Monday
❗️Work

Redsquirrel5 · 25/11/2021 23:36

Hope brr it is cold here. Sends up a snuggly blanket to hide under and watch Christmas movies.
Zoo that blanket is amazing. I would say that is more than medium difficulty.
Hazel we have a front door with stairs up about a metre in. A partition wall between there and the sitting room. We get a bit of draft so want a door curtain for the winter. We don’t tend to use that door.

Completed Pof3 and 3 loads of laundry. Vacuumed downstairs as a bit of tissue went everywhere. Have hospital appointment in the morning for scan. Must remember to take a book.

IWillWearThatGlitteryWoolly · 26/11/2021 07:01

Good luck with your hospital appointment Red

HazelNuttyElf · 26/11/2021 07:17

We had a bit of a disaster after dinner. We were cleaning up, DH was rinsing and turned the waste disposal on in the sink, the bloody hose popped off under the sink and flooded the kitchen and leaked water in the pantry down in the basement 🤬 so we spent the next hour (at least) drying everything as best we could. We now have our dehumidifier under the kitchen sink drying everything out. The floor is now fucked so we'll have to replace that at some point. Then, to top it off, I broke a glass and cut my finger (small cut) just before going to bed.

Overall it's been a good day, went smoothly for the most part until we got done eating, then it all went to shit.
Anyway, DW is now going again, 5 loads today, as well as the handwash DH did throughout the day. I do still have some handwash dishes I'll do tomorrow, since I'm off. I'll need to do a general tidy and clean, including the bathrooms.

It's now time to get ready for Christmas - decorating, getting treat orders made, planning our party and getting the invitations sent out (e-invite). I do need to get my mums Christmas present bought, wrapped and mailed by next Tuesday though, slightly stressing about that, although she'd be happy with my treats, that I still need to make 🤦‍♀️
It's past midnight here, I'm tired to going to sleep. I hope to catch up tomorrow

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/11/2021 07:30

Oooh new Christmas tree Sing.

I have Been Very Busy this morning.
❤️ Sorted out DS1's advent calendar
🧡 Went to town to post it
💛 Bought all my Christmas stamps
💚 Bought DH an album for Record Store Day
💙 Collected DS1's Christmas present book from Waterstones
💜 Took DS2's prescription into the chemist. Not available, come back on Monday
❤️ Did some minor grocery shopping
🧡 Opened windows, made the bed
💛 LOL
💚 Put elastic in my new mask
💙 Got my Covid booster
💜 Ordered xmas presents for DD, DNiece, DS1's GF, all from one supplier so got free postage 🥳
❤️ Ate chocolate biscuits
🧡 Talked to DS2 about Christmas presents and remembering to Christmas card his grandparents if no-one else.

Ta didn't:
Can't find any naice puzzle books for Christmas stockings (not the cheapy Tesco / Smiths ones printed on horrid paper). Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really rather not use Amazon if I can avoid it.

StillUp · 26/11/2021 14:06

I haven’t been as productive as I would have like today - I have reached the stage where no ending over is quite difficult so tidying DD’s bedroom floor and sorting out stuff in the baby’s room is slow progress!

Ta Das:

Baby:
👶 ordered pram, cot and Moses basket mattresses
👶 started a pile of baby clothes etc for hospital bag
👶 managed a few minutes sorting her room

House:
🧽 dishes
🧽 2 x 5 minutes in DD’s room
🧽 put clean washing away

Christmas:
🎁 ordered the Christmas gift I was stuck on
🎁 wrote list of ingredients required for cake (will push ass after the school run and soak fruit tonight)
🎁 ate a whole chocolate panettone (a mini one, t’was yummy)

Over the next week I want to:
🖊 Get the pram, cot, Moses basket and car seat all cleaned/assembled (mostly delegated to DH).
🖊 nursery cleared of crap and organised
🖊 freshly washed baby clothes organised in drawers
🖊 All Christmas presents bought and wrapped

Once all that is done then I’ll finally feel organised Red. Hope scan goes ok.

Oh what a shitty end to thanksgiving Hazel!
