Playing the Minimalism Game

For the month of October I am challenging myself to playing the 30 Day Minimalism Game as described by various people on their YouTube channels including The Minimalists. I prefer Jolita Bartkus' video on this. I know October has 31 days but the last day is for reflecting on how the month went.

How to Play: On the 1st you declutter one thing, on the 2nd you declutter 2 things, on the 3rd three things and so on. By the end of 30th day, 465 items should have been decluttered. Well, that's the aim.

I've been on this decluttering lark for a few years now so it'll be an interesting project. I'll try to update everyday of what was decluttered and maybe a little story of some of the items. I'm doing this online as a way to hold myself to account but I would welcome anyone who would like to join me.

It starts tomorrow. Eek!

Oh well done @Nordicmom. I'm not sure I'll get this finished this month, but I'm pleased to have made a start before Christmas, and will start again after.

My problem is that the easy stuff all went at the start of this year. There's plenty more to go, but its the stuff that's harder to keep go, might come in handy feels wasteful etc.

In the process if wrapping I have disposed of 15 items, glittery pens that don't work, broken gift bags, useful/useless boxes.

We just moved to this new house end of September and did lots of decluttering in the 9 m leading up to it so I know what you are talking about !

Also feeling insanely tired I’m not in good health and feel very overwhelmed with everything going on atm not doing with Christmas as well . It’s lucky in a way we didn’t end up travelling before Christmas as intended although I’m sad not to see my parents again it’s been 2,5 y soon already since I last did , feel like that would have been the straw that broke the camels back . Trying to just take one day at a time and tick things off the never ending list bit by bit

I know the feeling @Nordicmom. I'm trying to see thisxas one one the few things I can do something about in life atm! Although I do struggle to focus on more than one thing at a time.

Today - 3 empty pick n mix cups (why????)
3 unfinished craft projects (childrens)
2 party bags and 2 items from the contents.
10 in total. I need to check back and see where I'm up to

So that's days 19 and 20 done.
Day 22 - 13 so far, 9 left to go

Oh nearly forgot!

I put the "new" tablecloth on, only had ut 18 months. Old one straight in the bin (oilcloth sort, with various glue/glitter additions from kids crafting) AND (this sounds silly but is big for me) put the 3 pieces if card from the new one straight in the recycle, instead of saving them for.....what?? 😀

7 recipe/supermarket magazines that I kept last week. Day 22 done and 2 from day 23.

We will decorate the tree today I think
so there could be something there although I have gone through them when packing up last y as usual

I keep thinking I'm done fir now then finding more stuff as I attempt to get the house today for Christmas!

I realise I'm counting stuff that should just be thrown away as normal but as I'd usually keep it and then cause clutter I counting it for now!

I folded most of the dry laundry so it can go away just some of mine to do tomorrow .

• 21 pairs of old socks

• 1 DS old long sleeved T- shirt

And I’m done with the month of November I didn’t manage to finish on time !

I will now concentrate on getting the last bits ready for that and Mil arrival on Christmas Day . DH brought in the tree earlier from the garden and we’ll decorate it with the kids after a late dinner which is next .DH cooked after baking gingerbreads with the kids with a new recipe which is a good . Been looking for one for years now after my mom lost her excellent one from my childhood !

Been jotting things down ready for another month’s thread if you or someone else starts one ImFree2. I’m at 24 !

Oh well done! I will definitely start one, it's going to be tough with all the easy stuff gone but I can focus on the bedroom pile and more kids toys I think.

So another 6 equals 17 for day 23, plus 2 carried over so 4 left to go for 23. I'm wanted by the DC but casting around for 4 now!

Wooton 8 from the bowl of crap next to my bed. Small things but still.

I think I’m now around 55 with the old Xbox it’s 2 controllers and games going also an old Nintendo DS and it’s case and games .

I think I'm done for this month. I'm finding it hard being home alone with DC (I'm single) and trying to fit this in atm. I sm though doing really well at getting daily stuff out of the house instead of it lingering around. Also, I'm using things up, like bubble baths, cleansers, cleaning stuff as seem to have several of each thing open.
