Playing the Minimalism Game

For the month of October I am challenging myself to playing the 30 Day Minimalism Game as described by various people on their YouTube channels including The Minimalists. I prefer Jolita Bartkus' video on this. I know October has 31 days but the last day is for reflecting on how the month went.

How to Play: On the 1st you declutter one thing, on the 2nd you declutter 2 things, on the 3rd three things and so on. By the end of 30th day, 465 items should have been decluttered. Well, that's the aim.

I've been on this decluttering lark for a few years now so it'll be an interesting project. I'll try to update everyday of what was decluttered and maybe a little story of some of the items. I'm doing this online as a way to hold myself to account but I would welcome anyone who would like to join me.

It starts tomorrow. Eek!

We're really enjoying this and are planning to do it again in November.
Today's stash is very pleasing because most of the items quite large (folders, computer bags etc.)

Aw, thanks @Declutterclogs it's been a long challenging journey for me and continues to be an ongoing process although it does get easier. I enjoy having the space in my small space, iykwim. Things do get messy and I wish I was better at day to day housework but having less stuff all helps for sure.

You are doing great. Wonderfully, actually. You should be so proud of yourself because it is hard and you have loads of enthusiasm and you motivate me right back with your positivity.

Day 3: baby bath support. Compression stockings from my operation earlier this week and a dummy cover.

Day 4: old toothbrush used for cleaning grout, selection of chalks, a dummy cover and a broken unicorn ornament.

Day 5: selection of coat hangers, used paint brush, broken unicorn headband, witch mask that dc find irritating to wear and another toothbrush used for cleaning grout.

Day 14: ball pit, plastic infuser thing, cake tin, sinus rinse stuff, baby towel, baby sleeping bag, old limit, gro light, random bits of crochet squares from granny, scorepad from a game that keeps floating about the kids stuff, 4 pairs of shoes.

Shoes were difficult because I like them all but I would always pick other pairs that I like more so they never get worn.

Also getting ahead for holiday;
23 books to WeBuyBooks (and £33 to me kerching)
2 books in charity bag

I have put a bundle of maternity stuff and a car seat for free on FB and Olio so hoping that will go tomorrow.

Hope you don’t mind if I join in a bit late ?! We just moved 3 w ago abs I decluttered before but there’s still plenty off stuff that can go so I work hard to catch up with u guys .
Day 1 : a chair that I’ve now decided not to keep I loved it but the paint is cracking on the rattan seat so it’s time for it to go
Day 2 : a new plastic bowl I discovered is leaking because of a crack ,and some old tea towels to rag bank, we got new ones for the new house but these have served us well
Day 3: DS trainers that are falling apart he’s taken to basketball recently and that’s wearing things out quickly , a baseball hat I never wear I was keeping for a sun hat on trips but there’s another one left that’s enough , DH designer jeans with a big rip on the knee he actually agreed for me to throw some of his clothes away this is big since he’s quite difficult about that !
I need a nap now so more later . I’m in agony and very dizzy today .

Day 14 - various empty boxes and containers. Cats old blanket, I expect he will be cross but I’ve replaced it with another one. It’s less upsetting than washing his blanket as he finds that really insulting.

I'm glad I came on here to catch up on the updates... I forgot to add mine yesterday, so will do that now before I head off to find my 14 for today..... I've had such a rubbish day, utterly exhausted after being up all night with the youngest and I didn't want to bother with the game, or the housework, or the kids .... So thanks for giving me some inspiration to find my 14 (is it permitted to include children amongst our items?

Day 14

Still in the bedroom.

2 bras, 2 head bands. Shower cap. Necklace. Black mat thing. Bikini. 3 pairs sunglasses. Hair dryer hood. Pair odd gloves.
Im one short as I decided to keep the scarf so will add extra tomorrow.

And my update for today:

3 baby rattles
1 surplus game
1 old bedding set
1 travel cup
2 clocks
1 jar
1 light
1 book
1 bundle of bubble wrap
1 old hair gel
1 used pair of earplugs stored in a jewelry box (?!?!?!)

I have a few (many) places in the house where clutter seems to accumulate, and they provided the goods pretty quickly this eve as I did a quick walk through...

When insomnia strikes…hit it back!
Day 15
I emptied the cassette drawer, still kept the favourites even though we have nothing to play them on!

Bugger wrong day!

I was getting ahead as we are going away for a few days later in the month! Ah well I will do tomorrow’s/today’s later. I must sleep .

Love the big bulky items grumpy- so satisfying. @freezerdinners yay at motivating yourself and just getting it done @THOSEcobwebsareDECOR koko, don't worry about catching up  @Chrysanthemum5 decluttering at work - funny how the bug spills into other areas.

Here is today’s haul. None of the glasses have the right feel and I have plenty that do.
Empty box , defunct candle, bits of card (?) , tureen that I bought to use at Christmas years ago. Thank you all but it’s time you went to the charity shop.

@Trumpton wow! Cassettes, talk about a blast from the past. I like to get ahead too by a day or two. Makes for a chilled experience.
