Is anyone doing this/just started?

We just started this week and oh my goodness, our house is clean! Someone could turn up unexpectedly and I could let them in and not die of shame!

Even toddler DD came downstairs today and said 'Oh, it's clean here!' Blush Grin

@SylvanasWindrunner

Happy hall day!

Yes I keep the cleaning stuff in the bathrooms themselves. We also don't use the downstairs loo that much so I don't do it every day, just the upstairs one and then downstairs one a couple of times a week. I have loads of cheap microfibre cloths so I just have them stashed everywhere and chuck in wash liberally.

There was a post earlier about an acronym based on days of the week for each day. I can't quite remember what it was but I made my own one based on it.

M - mirror/windows
T - toilet (proper scrub, other days it's just chucking some loo cleaner down)
W - wet things (sink and bath)
T - taps and towel rack dusting/replacing towels
F - floors

Ah thank you for sharing that acronym! I like to have a set task for each day and find myself doing the same things and neglecting other areas of the bathroom so that's so helpful!

I find I forget to wipe front of the bath panel … now house is cleaner I am discovering various hidden spots

Have just picked up a new cordless ‘stick’ hoover so will be using that on stairs & bedroom carpets later …

Viviennemary · 09/10/2021 15:10

I did the bootcamp (more or less) about three months ago. Then I've let it go a bit. Will have to repeat.

Henrywilldoit · 09/10/2021 16:13

I've started recently and finding it quite good so far.

I work part time and usually spend my whole day off cleaning which leaves no time to do anything else or to go a bit deeper into jobs.

Finding this helps me to relax a little because if something is looking a little dirty I know that bedroom/stairs/whatever day will be round soon so will sort it then, but don't get overwhelmed feeling I'm needing to tackle it all at once.

Some of the times feel a bit unrealistic, took me 3 hours to tackle decluttering 2 kids bedrooms, but hopefully next time it won't take as long.

How are we all doing this week?

Had a clean up after guests on Monday (kitchen day in my plan). The living room needed attention too so I mopped then, & have given bathrooms a bit of a swish & swipe yesterday…. I’m finding I really haven’t needed to do much in the last few days

Indecisivelurcher · 14/10/2021 14:28

I'm losing the plot here now so officially off it until the builders go. I'm still sticking to a few principles though, laundry every day unless I can't access the machine, bedding on a Tuesday, and when I do a room I'm working through the list. Which includes items i would never have cleaned weekly before! I will definitely be following this method when I have my house back. Roll on mid Nov...

DespairingHomeowner · 14/10/2021 16:03

@Indecisivelurcher: good luck with the renovations, just finished my own & can totally understand the frustrations…

SylvanasWindrunner · 16/10/2021 09:00

Not too long to go now @Indecisivelurcher!

I've just found out I'm pregnant with DC2 so more determined than ever to stick with it as otherwise house will be in total disarray! We got our loft boarded the other day so we have loads of space up there now and have been working through stuff to store.

Oo congratulations!

DespairingHomeowner · 16/10/2021 12:15

Congrats @SylvanasWindrunner! Good plan to stick with it though of course there might be off times

Well, I can report that having dusted the house top to bottom last Friday I cannot find any dust to attack today, which is pretty great! Changed the beds & did a quick hoover upstairs & that is pretty much me done until Monday

GemmaRuby · 16/10/2021 16:11

Congratulations!

SylvanasWindrunner · 16/10/2021 21:28

Thanks! Bricking it a bit, but feeling good knowing that house is decluttered and we sorted through all the baby stuff recently so know exactly what we've got and it's in good nick and properly stored away. Waiting for dreaded morning sickness to kick in so I've made sure DH has the app downloaded and knows what he has to do on days when I'm no use to man nor beast!

OK so I fell off the wagon for about 3 or 4 weeks (illness, 2 small children, illness!). Anyway my not very kind MIL is coming around today and now I BITTERLY REGRET it.

About to do a 2 hour blitz where we basically hide everything and superficially clean and snap at each other in the process.

This is your reminder that TOMM does work quite and it's better than the alternative!

I will be back on this thread on Monday

DollyPartBaked · 23/10/2021 09:39

Ps. Congratulations @SylvanasWindrunner

DespairingHomeowner · 23/10/2021 10:07

Busy week here but about to belatedly do my ‘Friday focus’ deep clean and keep on top of things!

Purplepancakes · 23/10/2021 14:27

I'm a single mum and I'm drowning in housework. I really want to start this but don't have time for bootcamp. Just can't seem to start as I feel so overwhelmed

DespairingHomeowner · 23/10/2021 16:50

@Purplepancakes: can you get some help to deep clean your house really thoroughly to get started? Either paid for, or friends/family (I realise it’s a bit of an ask, but it’s only once)

I did the boot camp in early September and have found my house barely gets dirty with this method…

DespairingHomeowner · 23/10/2021 16:52

@Purplepancakes: a good way to start is with a regular laundry habit (every day it 2 so it doesn’t pile up) and tackle the room that annoys you most.

It sounds horrendous I know but can you block out a few chunks of time - 3 or 4 hours to really make a dent, if you live in a normal size house that would make a big dent in the boot camp

DollyPartBaked · 23/10/2021 19:32

Definitely agree with the laundry once a day. When I'm good I set the washing machine overnight. It's the putting away that I am rubbish at.

@Purplepancakes I started without bootcamp and have just been doing bits of declutterring on the side often instead of Friday focus. At least till I fell off the wagon! You need to clean so may as well get going with one room at a time in the meantime!

Indecisivelurcher · 23/10/2021 20:03

Purplepancakes, I am off this for a few more weeks until building works done. When I was doing this though, I didn't do bootcamp. For the first 3 rotations I just accepted I wasn't going to get round to everything, but I knew I could start some of the jobs further down the list when that room came up the following week. For example it took me 3 weeks to get to any of the windows.

Purplepancakes · 25/10/2021 09:22

OK thank you.

My washing machine is currently broken ( 2 weeks old) so waiting for it to be repaired.

I am pretty good at doing level ones and my living room is good because I always start but never continue on a Monday. Just rest of house, kitchen mainly that needs a major declutter.

My mum has offered to help so I'm going to take her up on that.

I just don't understand the anxiety sbout starting I am literally so fearful as it's so overwhelming.

I'm going to make a start today

GemmaRuby · 25/10/2021 10:48

Purplepancakes, I know what you mean about about finding it hard to start. My problem is I always think I’ll wait until I have enough time to do the whole room etc, and that time never comes.

So I’ve started just trying to do one tiny job at time because even one clean surface is better that no clean surfaces.

I heard someone say don’t let perfection be the enemy of good enough. So that’s what I tell myself!

DollyPartBaked · 25/10/2021 15:54

Love that saying!

I've basically completed the living room today and most of the level one jobs. Going to do the taps in the bathroom shortly!

Because of the MIL induced weekend blitz it's actually been OK.

SylvanasWindrunner · 26/10/2021 05:35

Good luck @Purplepancakes! Starting is definitely the hardest part I think. I took a few days off and just blitzed the boot camp and clutter buster, but we are still going with some decluttering at weekends. I think we are 90% there but even just doing the level 1 stuff makes a difference I think. Once you're in the rhythm of it it just kind of propels itself.
