Is anyone doing this/just started?

We just started this week and oh my goodness, our house is clean! Someone could turn up unexpectedly and I could let them in and not die of shame!

Even toddler DD came downstairs today and said 'Oh, it's clean here!' Blush Grin

Thank you guys, appreciate the empathy.
Level 1s done here and a couple of 2s. Most was done yesterday.

#cleansheetstuesday (or whatever day it is for you!)

Washing machine is hard at work!

Also doing a sheet wash :) Days are a bit out of sync as I was away, but doing my house job little & often is making a massive difference

Indecisivelurcher · 05/10/2021 18:07

Waited all day to put the washing on, so I could put the swim kits in with it. Just put the wash on. Forgot to add the kit. D'oh!

Mybalconyiscracking · 05/10/2021 18:09

Been doing this for years, could have made a fortune by the sound of it.

Chunkymonkey123 · 05/10/2021 18:48

I’ve done all the sheets today and eufy is helping to keep the floors clean. I really want to get rid of more stuff but I put it in bags, then in the spare wardrobes. Then I forget what’s in the bags so need to go through them again. Then I give up as the charity shop is closed when I leave work. Need to actually get on with it!!! Might just put all the clothes in the fabric bin at the supermarket

freezerdinners · 05/10/2021 20:05

Could anyone tell me what week it is for Friday focus this week? I'm out of sync but would like to join the same timetable so I get the right reminders!

freezerdinners · 05/10/2021 20:07

@Chunkymonkey123 I do that all the time. Then I decide to keep something after all, only to do the same thing again with the same item down the line. Trying to get more ruthless and get things out quickly

Indecisivelurcher · 05/10/2021 20:08

It's kids bedrooms this Friday.
I'm planning on sorting ds's clothes ready to gift (dump on) my sister at the weekend!

Boriswentcamping · 06/10/2021 07:20

Joining you for motivation! Have been loosely following Tomm for a year and although the house is generally looking better. I'm not keeping in top of it everyday. haven't managed to get my level 1 jobs down to 15 mins. Although I am on top of the washing!!! Hooray!!

Hallway today so nice and easy for me!! As very small.

Struggling with daily bathroom clean though as I hate using disposable wipes. Usually my strategy is to do all 3 toilets at the same time - squirt of eco loo cleaner then scrub with silicone brush. Then using a bucket of warm water and some some eco sanitiser I go round and clean them all. then I empty the bucket into the cloakroom sink and sanitise the bucket and the sink! Seems effective but its not quick job and I can't be arsed to do this daily!. How do I speed this up? Or do I just do this more thorough clean once a week (maybe on hall day) and do a quick wipe of the seat with loo roll daily - I don't like this method as the loo roll seems to disintegrate when wet but at least I can flush it away and it's not as bad as a disposable wipe? How to I get more efficient at this, bathrooms are my failing!

Indecisivelurcher · 06/10/2021 08:31

Hi @Boriswentcamping, every day bathroom doesn't suit me either so I have made Wednesday bathroom day. I only have a tiny hall, so I include hall and stairs in either living room or bedroom day, or split it. So bathroom I do a really thorough clean on the Wednesday, personally I don't clean the loo every day, I do the loo and basin a couple of times a week. I don't use wipes either, eco cleaner and plastic free sponge. Keeping them in the cupboard by the toilet has made me more likely to clean it, taking them upstairs every time was a step too far psychologically!

SylvanasWindrunner · 06/10/2021 09:38

Happy hall day!

Yes I keep the cleaning stuff in the bathrooms themselves. We also don't use the downstairs loo that much so I don't do it every day, just the upstairs one and then downstairs one a couple of times a week. I have loads of cheap microfibre cloths so I just have them stashed everywhere and chuck in wash liberally.

There was a post earlier about an acronym based on days of the week for each day. I can't quite remember what it was but I made my own one based on it.

M - mirror/windows
T - toilet (proper scrub, other days it's just chucking some loo cleaner down)
W - wet things (sink and bath)
T - taps and towel rack dusting/replacing towels
F - floors

@Boriswentcamping: I keep cleaning stuff & cloths in each bathroom (1 for loo, 1 for rest). If space is an issue you can put in a ceramic pot (I use IKEA plant pots) on floor so they are handy. Makes it easy to clean daily & keep dirty cloth away from other things

Indecisivelurcher · 06/10/2021 18:07

Question then, when you do a room in less than 30min, do you find another job and keep going to 30mins?! Really??? Because I think I should but haven't! Blaming insane snot levels...

GemmaRuby · 06/10/2021 19:43

My first week is off to a slow start. I do have a very clingy baby as an excuse.
Does anyone actually manage to do their Level 1 jobs in 15 mins??

Redcrayons · 06/10/2021 21:23

@Indecisivelurcher the only rooms I can do in less than 30 mins are my living room and my hall. I don’t keep shoes, coats and bags in the hall, so there’s isn’t a lot to do there. And the living room is never that untidy as I straighten it up every night before I go to bed. On living room day, I also do my front room which is my office and a lot messier. On halls day I also do the downstairs toilet.

I’d need 30 days rather than 30 minutes to finish the bedrooms and kitchen, so just do what I can.

You don’t have to be a slave to it, it’s supposed to make life easier.

Indecisivelurcher · 06/10/2021 21:51

I only have half a house at the mo, so I'm certain this is a temporary issue for me!

I've been following this thread since you started it OP, I've had the app for over a year now and have been too overwhelmed to start the boot camp declutter stuff.

But, I started mid August and each room had been deep cleaned by mid September. It was hard work, mentally more physically at times because at one point it felt like I was moving clutter about but we got there and since mid September we've been sticking to it and it's made a massive massive difference to all our moods.

I have a physical health problem and can take longer to do somethings but most days I'd say maybe an hour a day for both levels combined if I'm doing it alone but if dh pitches in, it's half an hour max. We only have one bathroom though so that might help.

There's some decluttering I'm still doing, like sorting cosmetics, or the teenagers stuff, but everything has a place and it's really made a difference. I don't like unexpected visitors regardless of the state of my home but at least now if my family say they'll popping in the next day I won't be up late at night cleaning.

The photo attached, I meant to say is from the unfuck your home app and I've been adding some of the tasks like that one to the TOMM jobs because my phone is just as cluttered too so I'm spending five mins at some point deleting some of the thousands of photos and crap I have on there too.

Indecisivelurcher · 07/10/2021 20:55

Wow @AFewSandwichesShortOfAPicnic - hardcore!

Aubree17 · 07/10/2021 21:01

I like the principal of the plan.
But after a days work I just don't have the enthusiasm to do 30 mins, and often don't even have the enthusiasm for level
One jobs.

Also the weekly cleaning is too
Much. Too often I felt like I was cleaning things that were clean.

SylvanasWindrunner · 08/10/2021 14:35

Today I was meant to FF DD's room but we have to move all the loft stuff in there as we are getting it boarded on Tuesday, so didn't seem much point! We've been in the thick of potty training this week, which I've found quite intense, but she's at nursery today, so I'm going to use my 30 mins to instead have a cup of tea and a Twirl Grin

Level 1 bits all done, except Gus got stuck in the utility room (I blame the cat) so spent an hour hoovering in there instead of the rest of downstairs. So he'll be called upon again later!

OP posts:
DespairingHomeowner · 08/10/2021 14:54

Have been hoovering bedrooms today (as Friday focus). Moving beds etc

Shifted some dust from inside cupboards and realise my hoover is a bit rubbish so looking for a better cordless…

This was the last bit not ‘deep cleaned’ in my boot camp … I still have home office to do later, then kitchen when Monday rolls around

There is a peace of mind in knowing it’s all been done recently/going to get done again rather soon!

Indecisivelurcher · 09/10/2021 10:27

I fell off the wagon this week and omg there is so much cleaning that needs doing today Confused
