Not sure where to put this - weighted blanket

DS is ND.

We feel a weighted blanket would be good for him to help him sleep. However, I have read you have to get ones that suit their weight.

Which is fine, but the ones the suit his weight are only small. He won't use a quilt and this, its to replace the quilt.

But I also don't want to get him one that's too heavy. He weighs about 25kg.

Am I missing something, are they not to sleep with? Or meant to go on top of a quilt?

He loves very velvety or fluffy blankets. But I can't find any that are thick enough. Instead of the weight blanket.

If anyone can help or knows about them, please can you recommend a place to get them?

My nine year old sleeps under hers but it is a very light child’s one. I took the advice re sleeping to mean little children who might be at risk of smothering, not children this age. I’m comfortable with letting dd sleep under one

Dd and I both us them to sleep at night. Both have ASD. They don’t need to be as big as a regular quilt because they don’t move as much. You also want to buy a cover because washing them is very difficult. For DD I use covers that are made of very soft fluffy fabric, like minky or Sherpa. For me, I buy “cooling” fabric covers. For all night use err on the side of lighter. So if you are borderline between a 7lb or a 10lb, get the 7 to start. Yes, you will have to upgrade as he grows, but such is life with a special needs kid.

Thank you all so much. He is still asleep. And he had a good night

I, typically, did not 😭

@minipie I want one of those for me Grin

I am going to speak to some of the companies today and the lady that makes them to order. I am also going to order a few of the options. See if any work in the meantime.

I have a 6 hour, company wide, meeting this morning and could just cry. I just want to go back to bed 🙈

@Driftingblue I wonder if you could share a link to the cooling covers you use? Smile

Late to the party, but I bought a duvet set from amazon, smooth to touch, and inside it has ties to toe the 4 corners od the duvet. A bit of a fadf when changing bedding, but keeps the duvet in place, and makes up for the faff by having a sip, not buttons!

We have one for DS with ASD. It is fantastic, he falls asleep and then I roll it down off him. When he's at school he places one over his legs to feel secure and if feeling scared he wraps it around him.

Just in case it is of any help...

The other thing we did for our son was to create a sort of tunnel beneath the bottom sheet by rolling pillows for each side of him as it helped him feel cuddled.

He also saw an OT and an ed psych. The OT's advice was fantastic.

He did have some issues with anxiety which turned into school refusal for almost a year but between child mental health services and child development services he got all the help and strategies he needed to get past that.

Wishing you the very best. I know it can be hard going.

This isn't a weighted blanket, but it's a really thick, soft, cosy blanket that goes on a bed.

I bought one, loved it, and immediately bought more for the DC and pretty much everyone I know!

Comes in different patterns. Washing-machine friendly. If you don't like it, QVC returns are super easy.

Don't buy the throws, they're thin. You want this blanket, big, soft and thick.
