Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

I've still done nothing. Must at least sort my hair out as shopping is being delivered this afternoon.

SingToTheSky · 20/07/2021 13:55

Ice cream is definitely medicinal in this weather 🥵

Well, happily I have sorted my new tutoring endeavour - really excited to get started on a new way of working (correspondence style)!

Decided to give myself a break though and book a taxi to the school to get the books. It’s just ridiculously hot out there. I’ll get buses back and maybe stop in town. Maybe.

SingToTheSky · 20/07/2021 13:55

I misread that as your hair being delivered honey

TheHoneyBadger · 20/07/2021 14:08

I'm letting myself off the hook for being useless today. I'm so tired for no reason unless it's the heat. My period did start today so could be that too. Any excuse.

SingToTheSky · 20/07/2021 14:12

That’s not a pleasant combo. I feel hotter when I have my period especially at night! 🥵

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/07/2021 14:22

Me too. I run hot anyway (t-shirts in snow kinda person) but period = melting.

I made pasta and cheese. kitchen is now hellish hot but i am no longer starving hungry. I just need a nap now. problem is bed is covered by a load of in progress stuff

TheHoneyBadger · 20/07/2021 14:52

I took delivery of the shopping and put it away and I'm now sweating! It's so hot in the kitchen. I'm back on my bed by the fan now after having taken the dog out for a quick wee and making sure the cats bowl is full.

Got some nice looking tiger rolls and I'm hoping ds will be happy with ham rolls and salad and fruit for dinner because I do not fancy the heat of cooking.

Yes - I'd forgotten you feel hotter with period anyway - good point! I'm still aiming to do the 27 fling boogie when I've cooled down and brought up a box (recycling) and bag (rubbish) with me to do it which is a start Grin

Redsquirrel5 · 20/07/2021 15:57

Shit! Plane sounded like it was going to take the top off our house.

Redsquirrel5 · 20/07/2021 16:32

Recovered now. Tractors whizzing back and forth trying to get crop in.

My washing/ duvet cover and sheets left out last night.

Hills have you considered donning a wig and glasses then doing the cleaning naked? Hover with an Ainsley Hariot wave of one hand.🙋🏼‍♀️👋

Bet it made postman’s day!🤣

Zoo I read that about five times before scrolling down. We put the coop back together so they could sleep in it and they slept outside🤣unless they went in after 11. Egg man bought me some stuff to try. Bless him. I think it is similar to what we have. He is still smarting from being kicked by a calving heifer, poor man. We have exchanged numbers again so he can ring if he is in trouble as he is down at’tmill on his own. Still a few about as I picked up two just being near the coop. I manage to grab all of them and dust them last night so hopefully not many left!
Does SS not realise kids don’t always tell all of the truth?I hope she comes clean/ explains what she means in regards food.
Dancing can’t remember what I was going to say now to p. 24 post sorry.

Honey sort hair out because shopping being delivered...is delivery man a gorgeous hunk or something? I haven’t done my hair since plaiting it last night.

Had a lie down and about 1/2 an hour nap. Just waking up when RAF jet went over. Low flying path over our house. Was such a shock, nearly shaking. We are on helicopter North Air Ambulance flight path too.

Well don’t think I did 27 fling boogie but did get some stuff in recycling and some in bin. Looking a bit more spacious but still some to go and going away for five days. Not sure if I am doing the right thing but can come home if needs be. Church holiday. I am in charge with another for buffet so feel I can’t pull out now. Special anniversary. Everyone says going to be cautious so hope so. Will have to attempt more next Tuesday. Posting before charge runs out.

Zoo Flowers

Hills teeshirt in the snow sort of person is me too, and DS, neither of us likes the slightest bit of overheating (although he goes too far and almost gets hypothermia, its a worry). We are both struggling this week.

Take it easy everyone,

KCC - we haven't had one of these for a while (Keep Calm Corner for the uninitiated, we started these last year as a distraction from the world). What is your favourite ice cream / ice lolly?

I find a good chocolate hard to beat and also love strawberry. I can't bear rum and raisin or mint choc chip.

OP posts:
IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 20/07/2021 17:34

I'll have all your portion of rum and raisin, ED, don't worry. It's not a holiday unless I've had a rum and raisin ice cream. I'll join you in loathing mint choc chip, though!

The ice cream shop where you are, the double fronted place opposite the Lobster, does a lemon meringue ice cream that's hard to beat.

Glad the shopping got put away Honey. Ham rolls and salad sounds ideal for tea

Red hope you have recovered from your fright!
Hills glad you got fed even if it did heat up the kitchen.

Ta da:
❤️ 2nd LOL hung out
🧡 3rd LOL in
💛 Helped DS3 with maths homework (complex bit done well, drawing to scale a disaster)
💚 Client work finished and dispatched
💙 Foot operation booked for Friday 13th August💜 halloumi purchased and curtains collected
🤎 DW run
🖤 Now cooking halloumi kebabs for DS3

Still too damn hot.

halfhope · 20/07/2021 18:33

I love coffee ice cream but would sell my soul for Pralines and Cream by Häagen-Dazs.

halfhope · 20/07/2021 18:36

I am on annual leave at home and we are replicating a holiday by walking miles everyday. Normally it would be around museums and art galleries and around cities but we are at least discovering more of our area. Going to seines house for coffee and cakes tomorrow. It's the first time I've been in someone's house since December 2019.

halfhope · 20/07/2021 18:37

*someone's house I meant

SingToTheSky · 20/07/2021 19:03

Not sure I could choose a favourite! All of them. All the ice creams and lollies.

I do love a cornetto whether an original or one of the fancypants flavours (raspberry extreme…). But also, nobbly bobblies really hit the spot 🤣

You know what I miss? When I was at school you could get a little bag of five mini ghost shaped ice lollies. All different fruit flavours. The only time I saw them as an adult was when I was newly diagnosed with GD and thus couldn’t even eat them 😩😩😩 sad times. Does anyone know what I’m on about?!

Ok now I’m hungry. 😳

Just got back from piano. DD1 is making potions in the garden with Cagletini 🥰 #bestsisterever

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/07/2021 19:08

Yeah i am of the hypothermia brigade... I like to be cold cold. But not when i sleep. So sleeping in the heat is less of a problem for me. Slowly coming out of this round of heat stroke. But did take a delicious 1 hr nap. Blush before disappearing to submerge in cold with a book. I do not do well in the heat and i wish i could have lingered with the book longer but i have rather a lot to do today and i have plans this evening.

EverythingDelegated · 20/07/2021 21:12

Ooh, Half - yes,, pralines and cream by HD is both mine and DS's all time favourite. I'd forgotten about that, I was thinking in terms of buying an ice cream while you're out.

OP posts:
TheHoneyBadger · 20/07/2021 21:50

Another pralines and cream fan but it is forbidden now.

Rolls were plenty for me. I rarely eat bread as it used to cause me problems and I've never been that fussed about it but when I do occasionally have it now I find it really fills me up.

I did the fling boogie - not sure on the exact number but it was productive.

Tomorrow must get back to basics - rotate dw, lol, put clean piles away in the morning. Off out for a family members 50th tomorrow.

I want to ask quite an intimate question as we've sort of discussed middle age joys and peri but apologies if it's too much. Has anyone else found themselves not able to use tampons anymore? It's as if they don't want to go in far enough and my body just wants to push them out and they are uncomfortable. Wondering if it's a normal thing or if I should be seeing someone (the horrible word prolapse keeps flashing in my mind). So sorry - about as far from housekeeping as you can get and I'm sure flylady wouldn't approve.

Dancingtomusic · 20/07/2021 22:36

Honey- i am sure you can ask pretty much anything on here and someone will answer....prolaspe is something that i too hv been worried about in the past 2 years. But covid happened and i dont think of it now. I could never use tampons so I cant answer that part sorry.
I think if its a worry, something different from normal do go get it checked. I think women should talk about womens body issues as it can help. I have no mum to ask and my auntie would have no idea what I was talking about.

EverythingDelegated · 20/07/2021 22:45

Honey - I'm very happy to talk about it, I have been through the same with tampons in fact I had surgery for prolapse about 8 years ago. It is one of my pet subjects Confused. For me I think it was caused by childbirth damage (forceps delivery) plus lack of attention to pelvic floor exercises afterwards plus high impact exercise. It makes me angry that there is so little information given to women about pelvic floor health but there are things you can do to help.

OP posts:
halfhope · 20/07/2021 23:00

We need to move to France ED - they are big on post natal pelvic health

halfhope · 20/07/2021 23:04

Would do no harm to mention it to your GP honey. Might be minor.

I am on a healthy eating phase and am taking loads of exercise ATM so no ice-cream for me.

EverythingDelegated · 20/07/2021 23:07

I would look on your surgery website to see if there's a GP who specialises in women's health, go and see them and ask for a referral to a women's health physio.

SingToTheSky · 20/07/2021 23:57

I have nothing useful to add but I hope you can get it checked out 💐

So tired but up with anxious DD1.

Busy morning - had a mystery text about a doctor’s appointment at 9.50am. Which could be for me or any of the three Caglets but there’s no name. None of us have booked one… and I’m teaching at 9am 🤦🏽‍♀️

Just hope I can be up early enough to sort stuff (zoom background needs rescuing again) and phone them, and I need to sign the waiver for the trampoline park thing DS is going to with a friend.

And I forgot to edit the tesco order. DH did a proper order earlier but I didn’t add my stuff like cherries for freezing 😩 sad times.

Really must sleep and hope I feel a bit more productive in the morning
