Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

zoo what a terrible time you are having. I think DD's fiancé was bang out of order and well done for telling him that he was out of line. I think I would find it difficult to trust him again. Your DS did the right thing and I'm sure you've told him that.

Take care of yourself 💐

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 10:17

Hi, just jumping back in!

This morning dh did the school run and I had a bit of a lazy morning which was nice, dh has some time off work. I'm not feeling particularly motivated this morning despite finally having some time to get bits done (dh and ds are outside weeding the front garden)

I have ironed my new table cloth and put it on the table, picked some lavender and put it in a vase so that's all looking nice at least. Played monopoly with dh and ds and hung the washing up. Oh and I did give the bathroom a proper scrub (not that it looks much better, it's just so old looks so grim 😣)

I'm going to get some more washing on now as the sun has come out properly. Kicking myself for not reminding dd about suncream today it's hotter than I expected!

Hope everybody okay today

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 11:55

Glad you had an easier morning foxes 💐

Phone call was good, got a few tweaks to make to my CV and she’s sending some links etc for finding work.

Lying on my bed while on hold to the GP 🥱🙄

After that,
po3.3
❗️Eat something and take painkillers
❗️Put rag bags and bag of bags in cupboard
❗️Sort small BRC

EverythingDelegated · 09/07/2021 13:07

Afternoon all, sorry for the absence of links this morning, time just got away with me and I had a long zoom call for most of the morning. Foxes it has turned hot here too so I too have got some washing on in the hopes of getting it line dried.

Zoo Flowers, what an awful week you are having. As Sing says, I hope SS will realise that more support is needed, you are doing so much for your family but its more than one person should have to cope with.

So, Friday's Links.

Today is the last day in the kitchen, our mission today is to sweep and mop the floor. Flight plan here

Friday is also the day for cleaning out your handbag and car. I am ahead of the game for once as I did my handbag discreetly during a long zoom meeting last night. I also decluttered most of the contents of my car boot to a charity shop yesterday, the interior isn't too cluttered but it does need dusting and vacuuming, might do that in a minute.

Next week we will be moving into Zone 3, the main bathroom plus one extra (eg utility, en-suite, spare room).

zoo just caught up on your post 😞 so sorry understand if you're not reading at the moment but if you are sending you virtual hugs

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 14:17

Been bounced around somewhat trying to chase my meds. The shared care hasn’t been formally approved by the GP yet [translation: it’s been sitting on their desk for a month] and thus I need to go back to CMHT. Right when I reeeeally don’t have the mental energy to organise anything. Because no meds. 🤦🏽‍♀️

po3.4
❗️Keep phoning CMHT until they actually answer
❗️Make sure DS leaves on time for parkour having completed his maths
❗️Nap?! Can’t think of anything else I can be bothered to do right now 😳

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 14:26

The good news - I finally got through and they’re happy to issue my meds.

The bad news - there are no available specialists to sign it off and thus it won’t be ready till Monday.

So, another three days of Useless Sing. 😭😳😵‍💫

halfhope · 09/07/2021 14:58

sing could they phone a pharmacist to allow you to have an emergency supply?

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 15:04

Apparently not :(

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 15:04

(Because of the type of medication)

halfhope · 09/07/2021 15:05

FGS sing - that's so frustrating. Pushed from pillar to post. 💐

TheHoneyBadger · 09/07/2021 15:21

I’m so sorry zoo and sing. Definitely need help zoo-hopefully ss will see how much you’re dealing with and put in some meaningful support.

I’m exhausted. 3 hrs sleep then a crazy activity day at school with building work going on above us and manic teens.

No chance of ta das here.

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 16:20

Surprising turn of events - got a call from CMHT and they’d evidently told a psychiatrist after all, and they’d written the prescription. So DH has gone off to get that and drop it at Boots. Yay! Should hopefully mean tomorrow is my last unmedicated day. A week has been plenty long enough🤣

Redsquirrel5 · 09/07/2021 17:14

Oh that is a relief Sing. Medication problems seem ongoing due to Covid. I have had a text to say mine is in but for some reason I don’t get it all on the same day. I have asked for it to be changed several times but it hasn’t been. I need the BP meds and Amitriptyline together. Last time he had to give me an emergency pack of BP capsules because it was over a week late. I have started marking it on the calendar. In 2019 I had to attend A&E three times in a week and they kept me overnight each time so not unnecessary. Then it gets missed for a whole week and the pharmacist had to ring twice. You would think if it is on repeat prescription that it would go automatically.

Zoo if you are looking in the fact that you have had these children to the GP will be in your favour. Be kind to yourself. 💐

Sing Let me know if and how you get the paint out. Annoying you got it on the new trousers.

Sorted some magazine cuttings and put away.
Washed up.
Work tops wiped.
Put laundry from ironing away.

Weeded front path/ stone flags.
Trimmed any dead heads in pots.
Lunch egg sandwich.
Trying to sort stuff in boudoir. Putting it in tidy hall so I can move and see. Moving bookcase means I can access the large wardrobe. DH seems to think their is empty space in there.🤷🏼‍♀️ About to tackle it. We have too much stuff in here a lot isn’t ours originally.

foxessocks · 09/07/2021 18:27

Ta das
Second LOL
Put lots of clean washing away
Dh hoovered whole house including the stairs
Pruned some rose bushes in the garden (felt ridiculously proud of myself for this as I don't generally do gardening, I want to love it but I never seem to find the time with it)
Started to look at dd homework for the weekend with her
Cooked a spinach and ricotta pasta bake and got dh to tidy the kitchen after (I'm such a messy cook 😂)
Cooked a rhubarb crumble which we are just waiting to eat, it's nearly done!

TheHoneyBadger · 09/07/2021 19:51

I missed about the paint. Was it gloss or emulsion? If gloss put some olive oil and massage it in - the oil picks it up and then it can wash off with the oil. If emulsion it's water based so should wash out.

I told someone how to get coke out of a hoodie the other day and came up with a way of potentially getting the scuzz out of the rim of the washing machine - I don't know how I know these things because I don't seem to apply them to my own life.

We had chinese for dinner. Too knackered for cooking today but it won't have done my weight loss any good. Will go to the gym tomorrow though.

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 23:08

Emulsion! Some of it had come out in the first wash but I scrubbed the rest off with some washing up liquid, gave it a good rinse and then washed it again so hopefully it’ll be ok!

Bit nervous about tomorrow, taking DD1 and some friends to London. Along with one of the other mums who I’ve never met 😬 not got piano in the morning though so I can relax till we leave.

SingToTheSky · 09/07/2021 23:10

Thank you for the tip btw - olive oil is amazing isn’t it?! I used it to remove a load of old sticky tape residue from a tray, no amount of scrubbing would remove it but I think zoo suggested leaving olive oil on it overnight and it is good as new now!

Should really sleep soon. Going to finish an episode then try and doze off

TheHoneyBadger · 10/07/2021 07:31

Olive oil is great for when you get gloss paint on you.

Hope you got some sleep and good luck with the London chaperoning. You’re a braver woman than me Grin

First po3 today needs to be:
-unload and reload dw
-lights lol
-make a list of minimum things I’d like to get done this weekend and share it for accountability.

HazelNuttyElf · 10/07/2021 07:43

💐 zoo sorry that lil zoo is causing you so much stress. I understand needing time away, just remember we're here if you need to vent.
Sing sorry the job didn't work out this time. Although it did sound promising for the future though, definitely would be a good move to keep looking out for opportunities that are similar. If the new person is leaning one place, does that mean they will be hiring soon? 🤔🤞
It looks like we have a couple of newbies, welcome! Sorry I didn't catch your names, I'll get them eventually. Just jump right in with flylady, modify it to suit you and your schedule and know you're never behind. Ask us if you have any questions (my phone originally put wisdoms instead of questions, we'll accept those too! 🤣😂)

This week was a short work week, although felt long. I'm glad it's over and it's the weekend. We are working on our pool area outside, we (I mean DH of course) built a frame for sand, then we'll put the pool on top of that. We pick the sand up tomorrow. We will also get our fire pit brought to our house, we plan on having a fire tomorrow night.
Inside the house the DC have been starting to get on track with their chores. The have rotated the DW for me yesterday and today, as well as doing 1 LOL. DH has been getting the Roomba to vacuum, although he had to get it to remap the main living area as we keep rearranging and confusing it.
I'll update more tomorrow. It's past 12:30am here so I'm falling asleep!
😴🍒👋 to everyone

StillUpholding · 10/07/2021 08:55

Happy weeekend everyone!

Don’t think I posted later on on Wednesday, but I did get all my to do list done and feel a bit more in control. Work Thursday and yesterday so minimal flying, but we stayed on top of the laundry and the kitchen. May attempt some actual flying today.

We’ve had a leisurely morning so far with crumpets for breakfast.

Hazel your garden is going to be fabulous!

Glad you got the meds sorted Sing. It’s a shame about the job but you should be really proud of yourself. Really good feedback!

Zoo if you’re reading I’m so sorry things are so tough. Thinking of you.

SingToTheSky · 10/07/2021 09:15

Morning all! Thanks for all the lovely comments about the interview etc 💐

Must actually get up soon. Only achievements I’ve had so far today are on Pokémon Go 😳🤣

po3.1
❗️Breakfast
❗️Washing in dryer
❗️Write list of what I need to take to London
