Anyone else got SLUGS invading their house?....

at night? They are never there during the day, but the trails are there in the morning. LOTS of trails.

How do they get in and how do I deter them?(I can't pin down exactly where they are coming in, and don't want to cover the whole of my room in salt!)

Be thankful that you do not have a downstairs bathroom. It's a bit like dodging land mines. One hit, and your foot is squished.

Salt/coffee the doors but BEWARE, some live in the house (under the skirting boards, behind the dishwasher/washing machine) and they are probably the ones trailing about.

OK - so if I take of the skirting boards (actually not a big job here) and clean that out and salt it, that might help? - also any other hidden spots...

Sorry to hear this Norma, they're almost impossible IME to get rid of. They'll come through the tiniest of cracks.

The baby ones annoy me most- it's the proof that they're not only living there, but also breeding and making little nurseries (in my head they mock me).

laminate flooring, mostly in the dining room end of our big, big downstairs room (living room / dining room)

Ah, was hoping you'd say carpet. I put salt all round the edges of the room then brushed it right into the crack agains the skirting board. Don't know if it made a difference but made me feel better.

I once had a bath and had just lay back to relax and out of the corner of my eye caught sight of a slug floating in the bath next to my face ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

it was obviously already in the bath when I ran it and I hadn't noticed

See if you can follow the trails...they'll be coming up from sonewhere!

foxinsocks and stripeymama - my "pet" slugs (attempt at positive spin there) at least have the decency to disappear before I get up.

I finally got rid of mine after coming downstairs at about 3am, turning on the lights and then watching where they went (with my feet up on the chair, naturally).

I had at loads living in my skirting/wall [puke]and I salted the gap they were leaving through, I collected corpses for about a week! I got nothing for 2 days and then they had to cross the line of death and melted...hahaha

Peaches - no not carpet - that might make it worse (or better) as I would spot the trails more easily

Chirpy - the one worry with that is my DD who is just at the age where she would pick up the cadavars and eat them

It would need some careful planning so that the slug graveyard would be inaccessible to her

My DD was the same she was 18 months when I finally got the feckers, I used to set the alarm so I could send DH (not me, ick!) to look for corpses before she got up.

I wasn't hugely bothered as she could have got hold of a live one, and at least the taste of salt would put her off...I feel really ill after typing that...

We live in a House of Slugs too. They are worst in the kitchen but we often wake up to little silvery trails on the lounge carpet. I have absolutely no idea where they come from. They leave little trails along by the patio door but I can't see any gap big enough for them to get through. The really odd ones are the ones who appear from nowhere on the other side of the room where there isn't even a window. The only thing I can think of is that they come along the gas pipe there.

One notable occasion I put my hand behind the telly to pull a plug out and took a chunk out of one with my finger nail. Ewwwwwww!!! Arghhhhh!! Yuckity yuck!!!!

They aren't dirty slugs, they are cunning slugs. I never see a live one in the house (so no worries on DD eating a live one). They run and hide before I get up.
