Well, here we are embarking upon part 6 of our epic journey of sorting out our homes.

We are a varied group of likeminded householders that are leading somewhat challenging lives; be that living with too much 'stuff' that we find difficult to deal with, houses that are falling apart (mine included), health issues within the family unit, wider family, or ourselves that makes sorting out our households challenging, to say the least. So...

Anyone and everyone is welcome to join us for support, adding their own ideas to help others out, storage ideas, even tips on actually getting those items out of the house which sounds so simple when you say it. Encouragement abounds here, and we do not criticise. EVER! We even try not to criticise ourselves as it's not helpful to anyone.
If you are feeling overwhelmed, don't know where to start, can't be bothered but really do want to be bothered...think you are lazy, just need to see it in print here...we'll help. We'll virtually fist bump your achievements - small or large, and virtually hug you when the need arises, and if you want a hug, just ask because we are here for you. Here for one another because we get it - the highs and the lows, the art of washing up is sometimes our great achievement of the day, but it's still an achievement.

Welcome to thread #6 of Hoarders Anonymous - Carrying On Sorting It Out

Total sum of achievement today....ds2 cut hedge and helped me walk the dog.
I wiped worktops again after a takeaway
Found ds2 glasses after several days (he had dropped on bathroom floor)
Cleaned a bit of a bathroom
Put away some laundry

DH did something very clever in my absence.. he stuck some aging cut flowers (chrysanthemums) in flowerbed and I thought they were "real" growing ones. Although strangely slug free. My Morrisons plug geraniums look really good too...much larger. And rudbeckias golden.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/07/2021 01:37

scrubbed half the bathroom floor.

put an old marge box under the drip of the toilet.

cleaned loo. cleaned bbasin severral times as I kept getting interupted.

put some of understairs cupboard stuff where it belongs as part of changing a light bulb which took ages as had to access the fuse box underr the stairs.

cooked tea.

ordered school uniform.

Hi everyone. I'm sorry I've not been here, but you all seem to be getting things done :)

I'm off this week and Dd is at summer school. I'm supposed to be doing loads of tidying so that I can pack for our holiday, but I don't seem to have got very much done at all. I've been doing re-washing of clothes - I have moths here too - but it's getting it all dry. I washed up and cleaned the kitchen sink and bowl on Monday, I washed up yesterday and dried up, and again today. Quick, but hot tea tonight, which beats last night's sandwiches Blush.

I've started another bag of clothing to go, and need to get a bit more proactive with that as I've had to buy myself some bigger clothes, and Dd too; so old, worn out, out grown by Dd especially have to go. I found an old shirt that belonged to my Dad today, and I couldn't bring myself to stick it in the washing machine for a freshen up as it still smells of him (I think). It's been almost 12 years since he died :( and I miss him so much.

I've got to find loads of holiday things yet, but I have started getting cleaning stuff, some foodstuffs, and a list going for what I need to get done ready for Friday night when I want to have everything ready to pack into the car for Saturday morning.

I cleaned some of the bathroom (again), the window sill which holds current in use bottles of shampoo, etc, which go scaly and green underneath very quickly, but the loo is so limescaled up again, it drives me crazy.

I need to get up early tomorrow and get doing. I'd like to clean the disgusting fridge before I go away. It's utterly filthy, but I don't know if I'll have the time.

toilet: the black bottles of domestos limescale remover. Asdfa used to do their own brand as well.

Sorry about your dad. Flowers

Sent 1 large box of biscuits to their dad.
one small bag of charity shop stuff

DownUdderer · 29/07/2021 06:17

I've done a load of laundry today, I will hang it up this afternoon to dry.

I'm keeping up with homeschooling.

I'm managing to feel a bit more grateful this week.

Nettleskeins · 29/07/2021 10:00

Solo ..I know what you mean about cleaning fridge before you go away, but imhe, cleaning fridge is one thing that makes no difference to ones departure or return. Unlike not taking the rubbish out before departure or having no clothes on holiday ...mind you I've managed those things too..Blush and it's been fine, truly ...well the wrong shoes is really annoying

BlackeyedSusan · 30/07/2021 16:13

we are going away next Friday and I am already having ameltdown about going...

respite care weekend. so resting. supposedly.

I have booked the car in for a tyre check.

I have started on the washing up and putting away.

Nettleskeins · 31/07/2021 14:04

Gosh travel really freaks me out too. My new tactic is to avoid thinking about it until the very very last moment or book (expensive option) night before.
I'm at my destination though. Nothing went as planned, dog barked all night at b NB en route, had to change my booking to get on ferry in the middle of night, pouring with rain when we arrived, no one to collect us. .missed train.
Honestly I survived!!Grin so grim that nothing can go wrong again and I'm grateful to be sitting here with dog draped over me drinking teaGrin

Nettleskeins · 31/07/2021 14:06

I made excellent "plans" in advance; and it was still grim!!!!

Nettleskeins · 31/07/2021 14:08

Susan, I'm full of admiration for people who can drive to their holiday destination; I can't, so end up tying myself in knots with trains and ferries and taxis and animals.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/08/2021 00:10

I can't do trains. they send me into a complete meltdown. airports are worse. I admire people who can grapple with public transport.

;car. no ferries. usually leave ridiculously late.

Miaowse · 01/08/2021 09:10

Enjoy the holidays! I find travelling stressful as I invariably set off too late/mislay my ticket/passport etc. I haven’t had anything more ambitious than a day trip for years, so salute all you adventurous people.

Had a fun day yesterday, which actually involved some outside socialising - it was a real mood lifter. Not much to report as far as house de-junking/cleaning goes. I’m running the dishwasher and once that’s done I’ll put on a load of laundry (though the weather is not looking promising). I should also tackle my recycling mountain and fold the dry washing, but coffee first.

Nettleskeins · 01/08/2021 11:04

I have no problem with the actual travel bit. It's "leaving the house" and worrying about locking doors windows cat feeding rubbish sheets bits of paperwork I need to do etc. Which is why I now try and leave DH to do the actual leaving the house bit. He has just rung me to say he hasn't slept a wink all night worrying about Mondays journey Shock, when HE travels...but he genuinely hates travelling but not the "house leaving" bit. He couldn't care less how untidy the house is when he leaves but is very good at locking up at least!!

toomanyhobbies · 01/08/2021 20:30

We got back from a week camping on Friday. Tent is up in the garden to dry out (although keeps getting rained on so will be up for a few days). I hate the unpacking from holiday it’s all the little bits I struggle to get put away and they hang around for ages.

This weekend we’ve managed to get 90% of all holiday washing done dried and ironed just last bit to put away. Ds has a friend round tomorrow then their parents are round in the evening so need to get house looking a bit more respectable.

Managed to sort and tidy ds bedroom today and threw out a few bits that her doesn’t need same for the playroom (will wait to see how long till he notices!) these were 2 rooms that really needed doing as it’s hard with the puppy around as she wants to come in the rooms but then steals toys from them.

Also got the dinningroom tidied. All the camping bits that need to go away in the house are on the spare bed as well as the baskets that I filled from dinning room and playroom with stuff that belongs upstairs. I also binned quiet a few pencils that the lead keeps breaking.

Tomorrow i need to get the towels away (currently piled on the chair in the living room) clean the bathroom (muddy from washing dog) abs Hoping to start TOmm this week so will clean the living room too.

Hoping while ds has his friend round I can empty the cupboard in the spare room where camping stuff goes. I know there are a few bits in there that can go.

DownUdderer · 03/08/2021 08:20

I have soaked two camping sleeping bags in the bath with white vinegar. Then I washed them in the washing machine. Then I hung them up to dry. It just needed doing because one of them had a bit of mildew on it. I actually think I been thinking about doing this for 6 weeks. The sleeping bags have been hanging around getting in the way all that time. Honestly I annoy myself sometimes.

But, they're clean and soon will be dry. And I'm relieved.

This afternoon I spent some time filling up our green bin, ready for it to be collected tomorrow. I told myself I couldn't face doing it, but then I just forced myself to do it. I am glad I did. I've always got lots to get rid of and I need a full bin collected every two weeks. It's just one of those jobs that if I ignore then it stresses me out, I prefer keeping on top of the garden waste!!

Nettleskeins · 03/08/2021 15:28

No tidying or decluttering at all here but I managed to pick some rhubarb, Swiss chard and bolting lettuces from veg garden and cook them, which feels like a declutter; also saved on packaging and shoppingSmile

Miaowse · 03/08/2021 22:22

I finished another book yesterday & put it in the donation box. I dug out the little one’s swimming trunks and they look way too small so they will also be leaving the house at some point.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/08/2021 23:37

packing. packing packing and a lot of sitting around on my backside melting down about packing.

well done everyone. I will be popping in on my phone from Friday. no decluttering though as we will be away.

Miaowse · 05/08/2021 14:12

I’m trying to catch up on laundry today. Two loads hung out and third in the machine.

toomanyhobbies · 08/08/2021 11:51

I’m tackling the spare room this weekend aka the room of doom. It’s needs doing so can get the camping stuff away.

Anyway started yesterday empty the cupboard out so now the floor as well as the bed is covered in stuff. Managed to make room for the tent & sleeping bags in the cupboard so they are out of our room. Kitchen and light boxes away. Dh has got 2 old airers to take to work to bin also binned an old air bed. Several of ds toys from the room of doing have also been listed for sale one should be going Wednesday. Needs to list some more bits.

Once ds is asleep tonight will making the train sets ti picture and sell.

Floor is still covered in stuff as well as the bed but it is being sorted need to get some more put away/sorted today and might be able to make the bed later!

Nordicmom · 12/08/2021 17:04

Sorry haven’t been here for ages but been sick for a month ( not Covid ) and trying to scramble getting stuff done regardless for our move .
The dreaded day is here and the GCSE results are in ! We are very happy and proud ; my DS got 10 9s (A) and 1 8(A/A) !!!!!! He was surprised ,he knew they seemed to have gone well and that he should get lots of 9s but you never know . For once he was happy and that’s all I wanted for him . This should give him some confidence going forward to the A- levels ! Going out to lunch tomorrow and tonight we’ll celebrate at home .

SingToTheSky · 12/08/2021 17:59

I am SO BAD at keeping up. Decluttering has been sidelined lately as we have been decorating the bathroom, but I did get rid of a bag of toys today - stuff that littlest has outgrown that I cleaned up, checked for completeness etc. Have handed it to a friend for her toddler. Did see a few bits that I could/should throw away so I should really dash round doing that while I remember.

SingToTheSky · 12/08/2021 18:00

This is the first summer I’ve actually not had the “omg we are already in the third week and I haven’t achieved anything” feeling 😱 ADHD meds are amazing

SingToTheSky · 12/08/2021 18:01

Nordic that is bloody fantastic congratulations to your DS! Hope you’re feeling better after your illness.

Hello to everyone else - I am determined to finally catch up on the thread.

Nordicmom · 12/08/2021 18:43

Thanks Sing ! I haven’t been able to keep the news to myself today I’m afraid we are so elated for him this is the result of several years work for him after all !
