Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

My wired bras are all falling to pieces and I can't buy without trying on at least about 10 different ones so I'm in firm support crop tops from Sainsburys. Extremely comfy but not very flattering.

Ed-Flowers

My sister was horrified at the state of my nursing bras...they were ripped and falling apart after nursing 2 kids and being worn on rotation. I only had 2.
My sister said - dont ever show that (ripped - ill fitting bra) to anyone ever again- they need to be burnt. I was quite offended.

So a few months later I went to Marks and Spencers and bought 5 crossover style (do you remember the type mums wore ) strong, thick strapped and sturdy bras in 5 different colours. My chest needed serious support but I cant wear underwire as they hv caused me long time damage.
As i was waiting in the queue, the sneery woman in front said 'you have got all your bras in different sizes.'
I said 'yes you know, everyday you need a different size!' 😁
I had 2 hours away from the kids to sort out my bras. They didnt have my correct size in the bras so I bought the closest i could.
The cashier looked shocked at how many bras i was buying and the cost of them.
My sister pipped up- its best x pounds she is spending in her life- worth every penny.
🙄

Today I have been to Marks and Spencers and all felt right with the world again. It was like a hug.
Went opticians and I picked up my new glasses and I am enjoying wearing them as my eyes are not straining to focus!

That you are pregnant. You are allowed to do as much or as little as you like.
Plus here, my feet are paddling under the water but I dont travel far. As long as my kitchen is abit messy and I can tidy it in 5mins and I put a wash on each day I am ok.
Due to shopping for the kids summer clothes and shoes everything else is in freefall. 🤷‍♀️
You can talk about anything That and it will be nice to hear from you.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/04/2021 07:01

Thats for the kind words you lot ❤

All of my bras are falling apart too, no way am i buying any right now i will wait til my (formula fed) baby has arrived and everything has 'return to normal' (or not)

I've had to buy summer bits for the dc too this week dancing luckily dc5 is growing into dc4s old bits so not much for him but dd especially seems to be growing like a weed

I got my dishwasher but its still not installed, having some pipe issues 🙄

Can anyone recommend decent sized rectangular planters for outside that won't break the bank?

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/04/2021 07:08

pots or raised beds?

I have my pots from BM, The ones from last years have held up.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/04/2021 07:21

Pots i think but like the long sturdy rectangle ones

Dancingtomusic · 23/04/2021 07:28

I like the long metal tubs that hedges are sometimes grown in...

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/04/2021 08:07

that we are all here because we are drowning at some level in house/kids/mess at some levelFlowers

I cut the grass out back yesterday.my joints hated me for it then, and are hating me even more this morning.fuck it

In positive news both girls are in school lesson 3+4 so relative peace for a whole hour(once I've deducted walking them over quiet fields either way)D's will be online schooling.i can either nap,or make a dent in some much needed "stuff"

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/04/2021 08:20

Nap! Always take the nap!

EventuallyDistracted · 23/04/2021 09:13

That - I get pots from places like The Range. Maybe avoid solid ones with properly sharp corners though, DS has still got a scar on his forehead from falling onto a square cornered planter at a friend's house when he was a toddler.

Well I managed a few PO3s yesterday, a couple of hours work and took myself off for a wander round a very high-end garden centre to look at all the beautiful kitchen items and plants. I found a couple of nice trailing indoor pot plants Sing - Ceropegia and Dischidia.

Also
booked the car for its MOT
booked a repair person (fridge has broken down, luckily we've got another one in the shed)
moved all the fridge stuff to the shed fridge
cleaned the bathroom walls
a few hotspots
went for a walk in the bluebell woods with my friend
zoom yoga, first time since Christmas, boy was I stiff.

Today I have mostly been searching for DD's airpods 🙄. Found now.

Links for Friday.

Flight Plan - the mission is to remake your bed (not going to bother, I only changed the sheets a few days ago).

Friday is Tidy Out Your Purse and Car day. I am planning to wash my car.

That lovely to hear from you. Shall I just remind you that you have five children one who is still tiny and that bump means you are pregnant in case you have forgotten. I remember what it was like with four. Constant washing and feeding. Plus you were working and you are studying. You must be exhausted. We love to see you but it isn’t crucial, feeding you kids is. Oh and you have a man child to boot.
Socially distant hug for you. Pity I don’t live nearby I could come and give you a hand.

I should have a perfect house by now but I don’t. No kids at home now but do sometimes have a manchild.🙄

Another one that thinks urgh to bra shopping. I have now settled for M&S and yep I take several sizes and cup sizes in to try on. I do like their sales on bras though it makes them very reasonable. Last time I met a friend in town who by looking at her might have bigger bras than me😀 we both managed to find a couple to fit. I bought two pretty fabric ones and one I found when puttting back some that I couldn’t be bothered trying on. I was going to take it back as just not comfy then I forgot so wore it a couple of times I feel like they are trapped in two cells! Friend and I rewarded our selves with tea and cake afterwards. She hates bra shopping too.

I didn’t get everything done yesterday as I took my book out to read before lunch and got to a bit where you don’t want to put it down so read for an hour and a half before lunch. DH was out so made sure I was doing something productive when he returned as I felt a bit guilty.

So nothing got done in the boudoir. I need to decluttering and dust.
I want to make the most of being outside. I cleaned out the old sink and discovered frogging or toady is still alive. If it is the same one. I think the other one was more warty and wrinkled and this is an imposter. S/he was under the big stone. The water was disgusting. So put t/frog in a bucket while I scooped out the rotting leaves etc. DH tipped it for me to discover its mate or child. So all clean but when I tried to scoop herhim back in it hopped off the side not to be seen again. So all that area is now tidy apart from Toad Hall which is a broken pot with leaves and logs to hid in. I have made a sign so people understand what it is. Need to check pots for signs of life re herbs.

I didn’t do the old greenhouse ass DH was out some of the afternoon taking DS3 to dentist where he got bored and went to the butchers and bought some steak😀
So today’s list comprises of the things not done yesterday.

I did wash the kitchen floor and was rather disgusted with the colour of the water so need to do it more often. DH did do it several times recently and I told him it could be his job but looks like it is back to me.

Annoyingly I tried to move some clematis over a little and broke to bits with flower heads forming. Told self I was a ‘stupid bitch’ out loud I was so annoyed. I was tying some new bits in that were sticking up over the Hazel fence. Hope they continue growing. I have only lost the Passion flower over the winter. So need another climber. Oh and a clematis next to the Summerhouse that was in a pot has died but the more expensive one is alive but no flowers.

Hope everyone has a great day. The dust will wait enjoy the weather!

Redsquirrel5 · 23/04/2021 09:33

ED Walk sounds lovely are the Bluebells out yet? Ours aren’t we still have daffy coming out no sign of the tulips bar 1.

ships loved the photo. So cute.

Zoo take a book and a rest for a while. Give your joints some sun.

That I have some sturdy black ones I have had for years. Think they will have been from the Range or Dobbies. I will try and get a photo later. They had different colours. A couple have faded a bit but none broken. The edges are rounded so not sharp for little ones.

IWasWantingThoseGreatWaders · 23/04/2021 09:53

Morning! Ducking in quickly to say

Yes, zoo, nap!
hello that, you're pregnant do as you will!
Dancing glad you are feeling a bit better.
Hills totally get the People Moving Stuff angst.

To do:
🤹‍♂️ Client work
🤹‍♂️ Place Dunelm lighting / mirror order (wonder whether to sneak in glorious Art Deco mirror for our room that would only require complete revamp of positions of furniture)
🤹‍♂️ Take last fire and post to Mum's
🤹‍♂️ DW / kitchen finding
🤹‍♂️ decide on chicken-based meal for tea.

🍒👋 everyone!

That's beautifulED!

I desperately need new bras also , hate shopping for them 😩

This morning I've been on a long walk with ds which was lovely. Had a coffee, might go to the supermarket now as he wants to choose some things for a picnic tomorrow. I'm supposed to be doing some work today but not entirely sure where I'm fitting that in!!

As for flying 🤔🤔 I've just had to put the washing back on with yesterday's washing because I forgot 😠 also my coffee machine seems to have broken and my WiFi isn't working. So not much flying!!

Catch you all later!

SingToTheSky · 23/04/2021 11:21

Naps should always win! Or for me if I worry that I then won’t sleep later, I just lie in bed and watch something on my phone, so I’m rested.

Thanks for other plant recommendations ed I’ll write them down!

I’ve not done anything so far except a bit of home ed and we played a quick game of labyrinth. Marriage certificate arrived and I knew I wasn’t going to get straight into scanning and emailing it to various people so I filed it immediately instead :o

I’m going into town once DH brings Cagletini back. I’ve been so isolated and it’s starting to worry me that being stuck indoors doesn’t even phase me anymore, I’ve not even felt desperate to meet up with friends now rules have changed :( I haven’t been to town since April 6th and have only even left the house once since to post something very nearby, I think. That’s just not ok. So I’m going to get a couple of bits we need and then hopefully look in a few charity shops too.

StillUpholding · 23/04/2021 11:33

. Hope school goes ok for the Zoolets. You definitely now deserve a nap.

I think you’re a great fledgling That.

Thanks Hills, it’s the salty air that’s throwing me. Half of me just wants to crack on and try and then learn from my mistakes, but MIL will be telling me where I’ve gone wrong from the outset so I’d rather not add too much fuel to the fire if I can help it! (We do get on and she means well but she does like things done her way Hmm). I have to respectfully disagree with you on the awarding of the worst fledgling trophy to your good self, however I am definitely in agreement about underwire and bra shopping. Urgh.

Waves to the rest of you as I’m just catching up in my second tea break of the morning. Quiet at work this morning but this afternoon won’t be so I’m taking the opportunity while I can.

Ta Das this morning:
⚡️ LOL done and on line, another one timed to start later
⚡️ Beds made
⚡️ bit of a tidy
⚡️ DW emptied
⚡️ made it to work in time despite heavy traffic - it appears the easy speedy commute of the last year is officially over.

Right, back to work, hope all is well.

StillUpholding · 23/04/2021 11:36

Cross posts.

Gorgeous ED, I always love your photos.

Enjoy yourself in town Sing.

Foxes Brew

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/04/2021 12:22

ed that is beautiful❤️
Foxes hope you have a lovely picnic tom.nice to have a little one on one time
Sing I can't remember last time I went out not trailing SOMEONE.......hope you find some bargains
Up I too dislike bra shopping,or worse- bra shopping for teens....d"p" mum was very opinionated.she snarled at me once "to stop trying to be some earth mother hippie type" because I breastfed exclusively and therefore couldn't say exactly how much zoolets were gettingshe held immense grudges because I wouldn't do things her way.ultimately her son wasn't perfect,so no way was I taking her advice🤣(plus my life I do it my way.who wants to look back at that level of regret?)

Walked girls in,took D's along too as school excuse for lessons is a joke.was pleasant in the sun with cool breeze/wind.we had a little wander on the way back as he's very agitated today

Rotated more washing
Fold and put away dry
Wet in drier
More in

DS looking like will need feeding very soon.girls are due back about 1.15/1.20,so nap has gone by wayside this morning.maybe once they're home if not too rowdy I may try and slot one in

Iceisnice · 23/04/2021 14:19

Hello all!
Haven't been on for a while, I don't know where the days are going!
Having the same problems as you @THATbasicSNOWFLAKE with doing stuff and getting nowhere/looking no different. Was chatting to DH about it last night and he was completely indifferent to it. So I said to him that eventually I will be going back to work (am a sahm) and I am concerned that when I do I will be spending every spare moment trying to keep the house tidy/decluttered/somewhat organised and he just shrugged his shoulders. Then he reluctantly vacuumed the lounge after being directed and wanted a medal for doing it. Ffs! Rant over.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/04/2021 16:54

.we still have room under the naughty corner patioWink

Iceisnice · 23/04/2021 18:07

Thank you Zoo, have a feeling it is going to be a long weekend!

SingToTheSky · 23/04/2021 18:24

Hello all. Not much achieved today except my trip to town. Got a few books for Cagletini (ok... six... but how could I not at 3 for £1?!) and a couple of other bits in the charity shop I went in but got tired super quickly so I’m a bit glum now.

Also haven’t managed to get her bath mat clean. Black spots round some of the suckers, although the washing machine helped a fair bit. Clearly my airing it out rule hasn’t been followed regularly enough 🙄 is it beyond help or can that be saved somehow?
