If so how often and what motivates you to do it?

LoveMyGirls · 07/11/2007 20:45

I started doing this for about 3hrs every weekend while dp took dc's to see pil and after a while it faded out and now i feel a bit like i want everything in order but because i've let it slide it would take me more than 3hrs! Not that the house is messy/ dirty i could do all that in 3hrs but not the paperwork!! It niggles me, I could prob do it a bit at a time but lately i've been so tired getting through my working day and doing everything that is necc. is enough! Where has my energy gone?!

When my MIL is coming to visit .

Most recently, last week, so am still basking in the glow of having dusted the wooden parts of the staircase (bits either side of the carpet which the hoover misses), windows that are clean inside and out etc. She comes about twice a year so it's a bit like spring cleaning.

Cupboards could still do with being cleaned though.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 07/11/2007 21:01

Everything except the paperwork, every Saturday. God Bless my cleaner.

WendyWeber · 07/11/2007 21:17

No, never - am a total slut

NineUnlikelyTales · 07/11/2007 21:23

Oh yes, all the time. Only then I wake up and it was all a dreeeam.

Seriously though, I manage two rooms at a time, max. It's either kitchen and sitting room or bedroom and bathroom. We won't mention the dining room or the spare bedroom.

yomellamoHelly · 07/11/2007 21:26

Before ds2 arrived 10 months ago. Felt quite proud of how the house looked. Will try and get on top of it in 14 months time when ds2 goes to pre-school! Feel sorry for dh as I write this, but I do what I can.

ja9 · 07/11/2007 21:34

no not ever. not even when people coming to stay. pre-kids it was (but even then only when visitors coming).

i often think that if it wasn't for peole coming round that i would never clean

i really really would like a cleaner...

handlemecarefully · 07/11/2007 21:37

It's not awful but it certainly isn't immaculate. Life is too short.

laura032004 · 08/11/2007 15:18

I can manage to get the whole of the downstairs clean and tidy in a couple of hours. But upstairs isn't fully unpacked from our last move, and there are a few lurking boxes downstairs too. We keep taking them upstairs, but as I Ebay stuff, it creeps back downstairs. Thinking of taking computer upstairs to avoid this, but that's a bit too much effort!

I have realised that I have too much stuff. That is the main problem. Recently Ebayed loads of baby stuff that was lying around, and that has really helped matters. It's easier to clean an emptier space.

gibberish · 08/11/2007 15:52

Actually, yes

But that's only because of the FLYing routines. I do a maintenance clean in every room once a week and I follow the FLYlady five weekly cleaning schedule so that the entire house has been cleaned from top to bottom, including cupboards, doors and windows frames, skirting boards etc

It doesn't take too long either as it is done so regularly. Oh and I have absolutely no clutter to make cleaning difficult and time consuming.

Tortington · 08/11/2007 15:57

nope

pagwatch · 08/11/2007 15:58

no

Meeely2 · 08/11/2007 15:59

for maybe one day in every 50....i work from home sometimes and blitz the house from top to bottom, then kids come home and bam back to square one.

mindalina · 08/11/2007 16:03

Never. My whole kitchen has been sparkling for almost a week though, which has got to be some sort of record for me.

bozza · 08/11/2007 16:03

No because I have not time at home without the children. I managed on Monday to get all upstairs clean and tidy except DD's room which was clean (did that first) but not tidy.
