If so how often and what motivates you to do it?

Mostly it feels like it's a loosing battle being the only girl in my house! Everything just gets dropped on floor and ignored. The only way it get's really tidy is by having people coming to stay!! Then I go into a cleaning paintwork type frenzy, but hate it as it's the sort of cleaning that no-one notices as other people seem to already assume it would be done. Basically life's too short for too much worry about it.....

claireybraxtonhicks · 10/11/2007 19:15

Nope. I keep on top of the washing up, washing (the ironing is a different matter though!) and hoovering. Thats about it! Kitchen gets wiped down as I go along, same for bathroom. Paperwork gets done when I freak out about how big the pile is . Hardly ever clean out the cupboards properly and only dust when it gets really bad! Try not to live amongst clutter but our house is so small that just the essentials (and dd's toys) make it look cluttered

fuzzywuzzy · 10/11/2007 19:19

Right before I go on holiday, I generally go on a mad cleaning spree so I can come home to a pristine, clean, fresh smelling home.

So that was like about two and a half years ago......

PestoMonster · 10/11/2007 19:20

No

DarthVader · 10/11/2007 19:21

No.
Not even 1 room ever achieves this status

Ha! mmj that is exactly what happens in our house. The rest of the house can certainly look pretty gleaming on occasion but that is only ever acheived by picking up all the crap from all over the house, and dumping it on our bed/under our bed/in the wardrobes, and fooling myself that 'I'll put that lot away before I go to bed'....never, ever happens.

pirategirl · 10/11/2007 20:05

no

yelnats · 10/11/2007 22:48

Only if my mums been round - she hates my house says its always untidy so when she comes round she feels the urge to clean! I prefer to call it lived in.

80sMum · 10/11/2007 22:50

No, there's always at least one room or area that's a mess. Currently the entire house is a tip.

Mine - never. But I have no motivation whatsoever to get the whole house clean and tidy. It would take too long and I would get depressed at the sheer pointlessness and futility of it. I hate drudgery. Makes me feel worthless.

I prefer to spend my very few free hours outside. Unfortunately, I have to spend quite a high proportion of them washing, shopping, cooking and tidying up, and cleaning to the extent that we aren't worthy of a visit from Kim and Aggie.

I resent almost every last minute spent on domesticity. Just loathe it.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 10/11/2007 23:09

I could pick out a piece of skirting board in my house which is clean from top to bottom. I would love a clean house but I think that may involve the margo household moving out.

themoon66 · 10/11/2007 23:15

Just realised, after reading this thread, that I have never ever clean the cupboard under the sink since I moved in on 30th June 2006

lucyellensmum · 11/11/2007 10:08

i am very consistent, my house is equally squallid throughout i'm with Daphne, life's too short. I would really love to have the time/storage/inclination to make the house all sparkly and clean, but seeing as i have none of these then i feel i should not disrupt the mice!!

Sidge · 11/11/2007 13:10

Yes, pretty much.

I mean I'm not as obsessive as my MIL who sends FIL up to hoover the loft twice a year, but my house is clean and tidy. I can't relax when it's mucky and messy so I like to keep on top of the housework.

I actually find cleaning quite relaxing, and love the end result.

You can all call me Monica.

londonthea · 11/11/2007 19:51

I dislike living in a mess and try to tidy as I go, but I HATE cleaning, so much so that £100 of my very hard-earned cash goes on cleaners every month. They come once a fortnight and clean from top to botom, all my floors, skirting boards, mirrors and so on - it makes it so much easier for me, keeps me sane, keeps my relationship together and stops me from murdering the children. Well worth the expense.

LesserSpottedMother · 11/11/2007 20:24

Anthea rings me for tips everyday.

I must change my number.......

Yummers · 11/11/2007 20:48

i wish - i used to obsess more over cleanliness, and hoovered most days etc. then i got a life

do i really want to be on my death bed going 'well at least the house was clean'?

the way i see it we're each only allotted so many hours on this planet, and as long as the house is vaguely liveable in i'd rather spend those hours doing something that will mean something after i'm gone.

blossomsmine · 11/11/2007 21:57

What do you do about making time for cleaning? Once upon a time i used to be really houseproud....not anymore. I work full time and my youngest dd dances professionally so out every evening for an average of 3hours and out dancing every Saturday and every other Sunday. When can i get it done....i can't afford a cleaner...i must admit the house is driving me mad at the moment, so unorganised.

katpotat · 12/11/2007 17:41

My sister used to call me Monica from friends! I was completely anal about cleaning and tidying up!! Since having my wee one 7 months ago, things have gone completely to the wall as long as she is fed washed and happy......the cleaning can wait. My mother is a great help now

oldmother · 13/11/2007 13:29

god i am so anal with the house

its got to be clean or i'd fret i'd missed something

princessmel · 13/11/2007 13:31

No, I only do bits a bobs, here and there. Don't have a day to do it all. My living room is tidy today but the bathroom is bad!!
Kitchen ok.

SuzieT1973 · 13/11/2007 15:53

i try to keep things clean, but it's a nightmare when your partner's a mechanic (as mine is)! oil stains on the white kitchen chairs is taken for granted now, although i do have to say that fly spray works for getting the marks off our carpet. here's backup - www.pickmeupmagazine.co.uk/tip_offs/index.php?&&&&&&page=7

it works, though better to get wood floorboards, probably!

lomond · 13/11/2007 16:02

With a baby, three year old and a lazy dp, No way!

I try my best to keep it clean but it is never tidy and clean for long.
