Net Curtains - Please tell me they're not old fashioned!

Morning ladies!

We have recently moved into a house (well, July actually) and they have left behind their vertical blinds, which we have been using until we decorate room by room. However I do feel that they dont offer much privacy when open and would really like to stick some nets up - nothing with big flowers on or anything, but more of a modern subtle thing.

Are nets still ok to have or are they only for people over 60?

TIA!

C'mon axe - get real!

I bet you have a small collection of china ornaments too don't you?

Admit it!

manchita · 01/11/2007 11:46

ranting housewife are nets noe on your chritmas wish list? say it ain't so!

iota · 01/11/2007 11:46

I have silver metallic blinds in my bathrooms, nets in the front bedrooms and verticals in the back bedrooms - the verticals are to block the very strong sun rather than nosey neighbours

ruddynorah · 01/11/2007 11:46

vertical blinds are for offices not houses. yuk. and nets..yukkety yuk.

rantinghousewife · 01/11/2007 11:46

I'd rather have nets than a bamboo blind.

I just parade round showing off the family jewels every once in a while.

That stops them from looking in.

Seeing the disdain for them does rather make me want some manchita, I told you, I am wilfully perverse!

EricL · 01/11/2007 11:48

I'd rather be classed as a student than a pensioner thanks.

iota · 01/11/2007 11:48

yeah - a bamboo blind would look tottaly out of place in my modern bathroom, which is all white and silver

ruddynorah · 01/11/2007 11:49

bamboo blinds are always wonky, dusty and cheap looking. the worst are from ikea for something like £2.

southeastastra · 01/11/2007 11:51

what do men know about curtains anyway.

perhaps i don't need to iron them and have been wasting my time doing them in the first place!

EricL · 01/11/2007 11:51

Norah - i think the word you were actually looking for was 'rustic' or 'natural'

Yeah - i just hoover mine every month.

Sorted.

I have enough shite to do without adding to it with fancy window dressings.

southeastastra · 01/11/2007 11:53

don't know what mine are, they aren't shiny

Most nets are not as clean as they should be- grubby round the edges mostly.

my nets are alway grimy with bits of fur in them - a bit like my windows.

It's part of the joy of owning a cat

crossma · 01/11/2007 12:07

I would prefer not to have nets but think blinds block out more light and take more cleaning.

manchita · 01/11/2007 12:07

iota, you should be ashamed of yourself how could you admit to such a thing? I am appalled and disgusted. I guess we'll have to take your word re your un-sluttishness mmam.
