Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

The really silly thing is that I was mainly worried that the machine sticking out would get in the way when standing at the sink (it’s on the wall perpendicular to the sink, so would be getting in the way to my left).

We stand at the sink for washing up. Just think about my logic there for a second. 🧐🤦🏽‍♀️😂

Mc- yay mctiny rolled over! Love it!

Yesterday was get 6year old to make a poster on mars...that took ageess...but he started doing it after watching the video 5 times. Proud of him he could present the poster to me. I have left all the spelling mistakes so they know its his work.

Yestadas...lol...love it waders
Lol
Dryer on
Sch work done
Lunches
Sitting room tidied
Takeaway for all i had no brain power left to cook.

Yr4 got on with maths dominos and spellings on her own. So proud of her independant work!

The mid sized table i have put into the sitting room is really helping me keep the floor clear of all pens, colouring pencils, papers and books.

New rules, kids must clear the floor before bed.
Things put away.

Today,
We have been up since 8am kids dressed and they have had a phonics online spelling test. 4yrold can spell as good as the yr6 old. (There are lots of spelling mistakes but the school encourage writing and sounding out words over correct spelling. They will enforce correct spelling at yr2)

Off shower and do more school and try and jolly along Dh that he doesnt chuck his job in.

Feeling oddly positive...possibly because the weekend is coming and no school logging in!

Oh and sch have asked us if we would like a tablet they have. I said yes please as when the kids are watching cosmic yoga on youtube....they are clicking on paw patrol yoga videos then leads them to paw patrol games online....then they sob and scream when i make them get off.

Tablet can lock...something so they cant click around...yay as i am hot on internet safety as it scares me what they could stumble into.

Sing- dishwasher saves my life in this house. Mine sticks out 1cm...i dont notice.

I honestly would hug my dishwasher.

Dh had subscribed to online something...amazone...thing....its posts finish dishwasher tablets and rinse aid.
Think you can set when it sends it out.

I used to use lidl or adli dishwasher tablets which were ok...the lemon ones work the best...but Dh says this subcription works out to be a similar price....4p per tablet....off the top off my head....sorry if my maths is out.
Yay so no carrying heavy stuff.

Cherry waves everyone.

Morning,

Sorry, I thought I had posted links last nigh, obviously not. I had another lengthy/complicated zoom meeting and was very tired afterwards.

Launchpad link is here

Our mission today is to "sparkle up" our dining room chairs and table. I was planning to excavate the kitchen table today so that will do ignores the Christmas stuff that she didn't take to the loft yesterday

Babystep number 5 is writing down horrible things you say about yourself and turning them into nice ones,

Friday is also the day for clearing out your car and handbag. I never use a handbag any more it seems.

Oh yes subscribe and save dancing I use that for vitamins and DD1’s Sanpro as the teen size pads aren’t available on tesco. Always worth checking prices as they aren’t necessarily cheaper but it’s brilliant not having to think about when certain items are running out! Fantastic news about the tablet!

Right, thanks to someone lovely reminding me I have finally rung the psychiatrist and left a voicemail, hopefully they will get back to me to confirm they have sent my prescription! Now I’m going to finally get started on unit 4 for a bit.

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2021 10:29

If anyone sees me on here before 11.30 please yell at me! Unfortunately I need to look a lot of things up online for these assignments and I find it very easy to click on something distracting 😳😂

EventuallyDeleted · 05/02/2021 10:49

Well, I found something for the KCC last night. A short youtube clip about snowdrops.

Aw I love that ed I will look out for some in the park for sure!

Well I’m back having managed just over an hour of solid work. I decided to just write REFERENCE on any bits where I need to find something (it’s only basic website links to back up ideas not mentioned in the book, not needing a bibliography and all that... really dreading that part of uni tbh...) and then marking those questions as not finished yet. I’ve decided that this unit I’m going to try leaving all references to the end, because I am so ridiculously flighty right now and I could do without the distraction while actually writing.

Psychiatrist office phoned back too. Apparently she’s getting someone else to write it today. So clearly they hadn’t done it. 🙄 I’ll also need to go and collect it as due to being a controlled drug they can’t just send it directly apparently. So I need to wait till later today to go out, as I can’t manage two trips and I really want to collect it today rather than wait till Monday - Boots is open 7 days so I could get them very soon. This way I can walk to town to drop off the books, get the bus over to the clinic, then back to town via the supermarket as we need some food.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/02/2021 11:58

Morning all (just!)

Nice bright day today! Dc3 and 4 are currently playing in the garden WITHOUT COATS!

I have dishwasher envy! I think i will get one but i annoyingly have gift cards i could use, but don't work online and you know, lockdown 🙄

I have bad round ligament pain again, and the sneezes which is a bloody awful combination!

Ta da
🌈 wash on
🌻 dryer on / washing on rads
🌈 sorted some of my GCSE stuff
🌻 checked emails
🌈 swept and mopped half the kitchen
🌻 washed up half the pots
🌈 brought down more washing
🌻 supervised dd maths and english work
🌈 browsed h&m baby section
🌻 submitted dds work for yesterday (whoops)

I really need to pull my finger out on the GCSE stuff. I had to do some practice papers and it made me realise i do actually need to learn some of the stuff 😑 yawn

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 05/02/2021 11:59

Oh and sing OU referencing drives me nuts 😔

foxessocks · 05/02/2021 12:46

It is indeed a beautiful day (hope it is for everyone!) Today my parents have the kids so dh can do his exam from home. I'm not working and have actually avoided doing housework so far although I will need to do a bit now. I actually went for a walk / jog for over an hour by the river and it was just what I needed.

Just had soup and a roll , will maybe do an hour of cleaning to get back on top of it

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2021 13:00

Anything particular troubling you with the maths that

Ugh referencing. I first met it in psychology A level and always left it to the last minute - I can get away with that for now as it’s just finding websites by charities etc but I will have to Do It Properly for uni. It was a total PITA for my social sciences course as it was a subject I wasn’t really into (first step to psychology degree... I’m a bit worried I’ll have to redo it because it was so long ago)

Have had lunch and now some tinned mandarins. Cagletini slipped into the kitchen when DS was doing laundry and “went shopping” for tins, so we lined them up in size order and then she built a tower which fell on my foot. 😂

DS is being a grumpy little git. He’s just wanted to be on his phone non stop (he got it in January after his birthday handmedown one was crap) - I’m finding it so bloody difficult to manage their screen time now, in a way that makes it fair for everyone. Lots of things I’ve seen have just said to embrace it as there’s fuck all else going on, and I do see the logic, but neither of them can self regulate at all - I find it tricky enough myself on bad days (doom scrolling anyone?) and TBH the thought of enforcing screen free time when we don’t even have the motivation to watch a film together etc is just filling me with dread. And DD1 really struggles with pretty much all board/card games so that’s out (we will be trying to play some with DS while the girls are at school/nursery). Gaaaaah. I suppose it could also be the start of the preteen rebellion etc. I’m just frustrated because he’s the one who normally gets on with his work quite happily (which is lucky I know) and I can already see a change in him, hiding in bed in the dark staring at YouTube

Gaaaaaaah. Again. As you were. Sorry. 🍒👋

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2021 13:06

I suppose we had to do referencing for law too but that was cases/acts and I actually really enjoyed learning those #nerd

I have an hour until I’m meant to phone the psychiatrist again. Killing time till then, as DH is now resting (he had a bad night too but then got up before me). Trying to work out if I can actually handle shopping as well as the other errands, or if I should take DH’s offer of him going later with DD1 to help carry things. I’ve had to pace myself for years since getting ill, so I’m used to not fitting in as much as others, but it’s making me a bit sad that even the few pathetic essential errands are proving a barrier ATM, especially as I made so much progress in lockdown 1 with my fitness and energy levels.

Gaaaaah (Sorry I did it again!)

Mc3209 · 05/02/2021 13:24

foxes I am envious of your lovely weather. It is very windy, rainy, and miserable here. I am not brave to be ture outside. And I just saw a pigeon flying backwards..

Mc3209 · 05/02/2021 13:28

sing I'd say listen to your body. No point in overdoing it for the sake of groceries, especially when you have the offer of help. Pushing through and then ending up shattered will not speed up your recovery.

EventuallyDeleted · 05/02/2021 14:14

Not beautiful here either, foggy all morning then cloudy with the odd glimpse of sun lasting about 20s if that.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 05/02/2021 14:18

I agree with MC , sing! If he has offered as well , makes sense

Sorry about your weather MC I didn't mean to rub people's nose in it! If it helps we are forecast rain all day tomorrow again Grin

Ta das from my power hour (not as good as I hoped because I got distracted by dh finishing his exam and waiting for his results, I felt nervous despite it not being my exam 😂 he passed btw!)

Dishwasher on
Cleaned out the fridge, removed lurking veg etc
Took out recycling
Spent 20 minutes cleaning shelves in dining area and decluttered a few books to lend to my mum
S&s bathroom
Quick tidy up in various rooms
Folded some laundry and put away
Cleared off dining table
Polished dining table and bench

foxessocks · 05/02/2021 14:18

Sorry ed!

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2021 14:25

Yeah true. It’s difficult balancing between us as he struggles too. In any case, the office are now not answering so I’m not actually sure if they’ve done my script or not 🤬 and I don’t want to risk a pointless journey, but I guess there must be someone there who can do it even if I have to wait outside while they do?! Gah. 🤬

DS is In A Mood because I said he has to do prodigy (maths game) AND actual maths in a workbook. Which is what he does every day, but today it’s A Problem.

🤬

SingToTheSky · 05/02/2021 14:37

Ooh yay flooring samples arrived! That has cheered me up.

Glad it’s improving! It feels quite refreshing here although starting to get a bit darker now. Just in pharmacy queue, having collected my prescription, yay!!! Also dropped 9 books at the library. Will check my account later and see what’s left.
