Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

Going to be honest - they'd have better stats if they allowed him to drop art and then he could pull the grades up in the other subjects. He is at least 3 gradeds below his target grades in most of his subjects and that looks really bad on the school and the individual teachers. Atm he is predicted a U in art. And a 3 in another subject which he has an 8 for the target. That poor teacher is tearing their hair out as he is more than capable. What school don't know is that i have got teen to speak to a tutor about that subject and he is actually motivated to suck less bad on that front HmmGrin might have bribed him with guitar lessons

halfhope · 26/02/2021 12:09

waders well done DS3 💐💐💐💐

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/02/2021 12:28

wafers if it's a big deal to him,it's HUGE achievement!(fwiw my D's 15 and couldn't do that!)
You need dietitian not nutritional IST,whom you have correctly identified can be any old tom dick or Harry with bit paper printed off the internet...
ED thanks for the photos,I but flat today and needed that!
That/dancing I'm not keen to sent my girls,at this point I'm not going to and risk wrath.i do not trust parents/teens to honestly do tests given they cannot be trusted to rember a mask(and that was just when needed in hallways).I knows number dd2 mates went in with no smell/colds and didn't SI as so n so had a test and was ok so I don't need one as must be their cold...
Lil zoo gagged doing nec test,dd2 found it very hard on sensory level and I'm confident I've got more chance convincing a man eating tiger to lick my finger not bite my arm off then getting multiple tests a week.we have enough to pick battles over, both are coping well at home so I'm going to have to contact school next week

Sun's shining but I'm exhausted and two nights running I've been sat chatting dd2 at least couple hours in the middle of the night, then not going back to sleep.she didn't go to sleep til 4am this morning,so it's not pretty trying hold conversation with her...

Tada
Cats fed
Harpic lav
Strip scoutcats filthy cat donut apart and pop in wash, with extra scent boosters
Wake dd2,repeatedly
Breakfasts
Pull out cat tree
Change damp traps in meter cupboards
Wipe floor
Screeching alerted me to fact internet had disconnected, quick check wires whilst in that corner discovered a certain tabby cat may deffo has been chewing the bloody wires and loosened connection.managed to fix it
Tidy corner next TV unit
Clean TV unit
Put cat tree back
Cat Donut on line
Next basket in(first too big to put in together)
Pull everything out under dining table
Reassign lil zoo art stuff to her craft drawer
Realise that's a sty,so had to sort it out before put more stuff in
Send some stuff upstairs
Tidy, wipe and return homeless things, rehouse what I can

About rummage in cupboards and make lunch, may have to have short nap after...

halfhope · 26/02/2021 13:59

Attempting to get thread on app for me under I'm on. Grrr.

foxessocks · 26/02/2021 14:34

I'm lacking motivation! I just keep staring at my to do list and hoping some of it will just go away Confused

I'm going to go and clean my dressing table as that will at least be something and I can't get out of it now I've said it.

I went for a walk / run before lunch and have posted nephew's birthday present so at least I have a couple of things to tick off. It's such a beautiful day I just stood in the garden for a little while feeling the sun on my face, I love that feeling

foxessocks · 26/02/2021 14:35

Sorry about lack of sleep zoo hope you are having a nap now

Well done your dswaders!

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 14:36

I’m feeling very stuck too today foxes it’s annoying isn’t it! I am now outside though (standing around Pokémoning rather than much walking) and glad it’s sunny! Well done for the walk/run!

Dancingtomusic · 26/02/2021 14:43

Ok i have just fainted.

A lovely lady came to buy the double pushchair and just loved it wanted to take it straight away.
I gave her 2 bags of lots of extra stuff like seat covers, a few books, brand new dino puzzels and other stuff and she was so grateful. She said her grandsons would love it. I said I am just happy the things are going to be used as none of my siblings are going to get married and none of them are going to have children.

Honestly cant believe Dh was ready to throw the double pushchair in the tip.....and now someone has bought it.....😭 (happy tears)......so happy its going to be used by someone who needs it.

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 14:46

Yay dancing I just panicked when I saw fainted but I see what you mean now! Yay!

Dancingtomusic · 26/02/2021 17:02

Sorry...😆...i am ok.

Its just that I put this pushchair on sale last year in july. There was no interest.

So happy its going to be used again and be useful!

HillsBesideTheSea · 26/02/2021 17:07

If you haven't seen it, here is the govt advice on how exam qualifications etc are to be done this year

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 18:00

This afternoon has been absolute shit. Stressed over a scouts task as couldn’t find the right stuff, Cagletini being a grumpy madam and I ended up shutting the door hinge on her hand, I thought she was out of the way 😭 and then manage to drop the last decent sized water glass, full, on the kitchen floor and it smashed.

I am officially done with the week.

halfhope · 26/02/2021 18:42

Right - flings open naughty corner. Am in one area with WINE 🍷

halfhope · 26/02/2021 18:43

This is not my first glass.

It's February - Fledglings are Flying (let's face it there's not much else to do).
HillsBesideTheSea · 26/02/2021 19:50

Hope that sounds like a most excellent plan. I might have some rum with my name on it if it wasn't for the fact that my brain has to function enough to converse with the states at stupid o'clock our time. Should be interesting though. It is amazing the online access to information that has come out of covid. I am very much appreciating it.

Enjoy the glass hope
Hope you manage a good night's rest sing and you are feeling better about everything tomo. Hopefull cagletini's hand is ok.
Zoo i know that screaching about the internet.

Hope you all have good evenings and are able to have weekends you enjoy.

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 20:12

Phew. Cagletini is asleep. She actually slept almost 12 hours last night yay. And didn’t have a danger nap today either.

In less good news I tried using the old laptop to do my assignment since the iPad screen is unusable, luckily I saved it after four small questions as it then randomly closed chrome when I was on the next big question and I lost all that 🤬🤬🤬

I may kill someone. Luckily I can indeed access the site on the school laptop, it was really hard on my phone screen

halfhope · 26/02/2021 20:52

Enjoy your rum Hills. Glad Cagletini is getting her sleep.

EventuallyDeleted · 26/02/2021 21:17

Evening all, I was just wondering if anyone is willing to thread lead next month? I don’t mind doing it again, I am feeling a bit more on top of things now than I was at the start of the month, but if anyone else would like to volunteer then that would be good. We have about 50 posts left on this thread so may need to start another one before Monday.

The weather has been beautiful here today. I went to the allotment for an hour this morning and planted some rhubarb, and dug out a load of dandelions at home. Also made bread for lunch and pizza dough for a Friday night pizza night, I do love baking —although my waistline doesn’t—. Quite a bit of helping DS on and off again with his work, he has got a complicated bit of coursework to do in the next few days, BTECs are fairly relentless. Hoping the parcel with the moth stuff arrives tomorrow so we can get the sofa out and tackle them while DH is at home.

SingToTheSky · 26/02/2021 22:56

Hope it’s ok if I don’t jump in this time, I am far too disorganised atm 😳

I have almost finished my work yay! Did lots more questions and then went back and added in website references to other questions. Two questions to write in full tomorrow morning, then I know if I do feel crap after the vaccine I don’t have to worry (although I still need to start unit 5 ASAP).

MrsTidyHouse · 26/02/2021 23:37

Lovely weather all day out in the garden, which lifted my mood considerably. Listened to a mixture of news and podcasts all day. I find politics fascinating and unsettling in equal measure. And very hard to ignore. But better than listening to the rubbish that clatters relentlessly round my head when nothing else is drowning it out.

Just been out to lock up, and it is beautiful with stars and the moon and raggy bits of white cloud blowing. Off to bed now, can barely keep my eyes open.

halfhope · 26/02/2021 23:46

I can't at the moment ED, sorry.

naptune · 27/02/2021 00:09

Heya😊 I’m still feeling a bit poorly and DD hasn’t been herself today so I think we might have a stomach bug🤢. We’re having a sleepover at our bubbles house so I can get a bit of help which is nice because I get a break from the kiddos.

Thanks red 😊was up again last night at about 3 being sick so not feeling the best I’ve just had plain toast today and hopefully that will settle my stomach.

Thank you dancing 😊DD is really funny but she’s such a little madam😂 DS is the complete opposite he’s such a chilled out baby. I’m really sorry to hear about your DD being bullied💐

tidy sorry to hear that you’re struggling a bit💐

Beautiful flowers ED🌷I hope going back to school does your son some good it sounds like it’ll take some pressure off you too.

sing it’s so difficult with shielding and as you say it’s impossible for you to shield from those in your household. I definitely think your mental health should come first do you know if there’s any way to find out how much of a risk you are at? That might help make your decision easier❤️ sorry about the stressful afternoon though🤗

Well done to your DS waders!🎉 sorry to hear about the struggles with your DD though💐

Sorry to hear about the lack of sleep zoo💐

hills sorry about all the stress with your DS’s school❤️💐

It’s been a beautiful day here too. Things are so much nicer when the weather is good. I just wish we were able to get out and do more. I’m going to get some sleep soon I hope. DD is in with me tonight and she won’t sleep because of her tummy being poorly. I’m feeling rubbish myself but hopefully a bit of sleep will do me good. I am sorry to report that there has been zero attempt at flying in my house today. One of the reasons I asked for a sleepover at my bubbles was so I could shut the door behind me and forget about the mess😂 if only I could do that everyday.

HillsBesideTheSea · 27/02/2021 03:23

Dont appologise for the lack of flying Naptune. We are not the cleaning police. We won't kick you off the thread. we actually set up a well stocked naughty corner just for this purpose

Sorry ED i have already over extended myself for march. And trying to figure out how to juggle/downsize obligations.

Right online meeting done. Now to return to the sleeps. AFTER new hot water bottles. It got cold!

HazelNuttyElf · 27/02/2021 05:47

Sounds like lots of stress on a lot of you lately 🍷🍫💐 for you all.
ED one of these days I hope to lead the thread, just not right now. Between all the birthdays we have in March, looking for a new home, getting our house ready to sell, packing etc and working full time as well, I seem to have my hands full already 😅

I really need to get back to meal prep, it only takes a couple of hours a week to do it, but we ate out twice this week - not planned! I didn't eat anything with gluten though so that's something.
The DC did home bleugh today, so I should be able to focus on painting and meal prep this weekend.

🍒👋 to everyone

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/02/2021 07:46

ed if I could become the master of my phone is love to,but alas tech is not my forte despite best efforts I cannot link to save my life, and I rely on competent followers of my caring for anxious kids thread to link over when one threads full to the nextSad

I never got my nap,dd2 freaked out after lunch so we ended up on the nature reserve near home.2hrs gentle strolling in warm sun,no coats.perked us both up!
Lil zoo and D's at dd1 overnighthoping one day dd2 will go too so I get a full night off...I fell asleep watch TV,and woke find a cat stamping all over me where dd2 went bed and didn't remove it.once awake was light naps from 130am.today I'm tired, but sadly sleeping a not an option as D's always comes back very needy
We had planned long walk this morning, early, but dd2 is too tired so will use the hour before she has to get up(or will never settle later) to get stuff done
