Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Remember - No Fledgling Left Behind!

I thought I posted last night, I obviously didn't Confused.

Mixed feelings about the plans announced here. On the one hand I can't wait for a bit of normality (I'd love to start socialising again, I miss it badly) on the other I'm still a bit nervous. DS is the same, desperate to get back to school but a bit anxious. DD is not bothered about going back to school, she's really settled into remote learning now and likes being able to roll out of bed and start but missing swimming desperately. There's no perfect answer. I will feel happier once DH is jabbed (gp6 so any time now hopefully).

In fact mixed feelings all round ATM, one minute I feel generally anxious, the next I'm calm again but it veers from one to the other all the time.

Tada!
Woke up at 5.30 following an unpleasant dream
Fed cats
Took in milk and put away
Looked out of window at lovely sunrise
Made packed lunch
Made cup of tea
Moved washing from WM to dryer
Back to bed.

Had to order moth stuff last night. DH moved the sofa at the weekend (too heavy for me, double recliner wedged in a corner) and found the carpet had moths, lots of them. On further questioning it turned out that he had also noticed them at Christmas but just hoovered up the mess and put the sofa back (to be fair this has worked in the past for minor infestations but he says this time its a lot worse). So we will hoover, steam clean and spray repeatedly and hope to be done with them.

Mc - yes to teething, my DS started chewing on things and dribbling a lot at that age even though actual teeth didn't appear for a few more months.

Zoo- 🤣 honestly wish i could go on holiday- no chance here.

Half- 🤣 nobel banquet!

Sing- I am sorry you had gest diabetes. Hope you didnt hv to inject.
Weldone sing for all the stuff you have been cracking on with. Lovely pic of your dc playing!

Mc- phew glad you found it helpful, I nearly deleted it but thought just in case. I looked after most of the my siblings and cousins from when they were babies up to primary age.
Can Mctiny hold things near his mouth? Maybe a teething ring to chop his gums on might work.
Teething gel is great.
When things get alot worse teething wise- from the chemist- anbosul (sorry I think this is the wrong spelling it been a while since I used it!), this was a god send was they only thing that took away some of the teething pain. If teething pain did get bad so my kids had a slight temp, I did give calpol.
Oh, I did think of something else, did you eat anything different to usual? Its may have made Mctiny more gas in his tummy, and he could be uncomfortable. We used this massge trick for baby gas. Lie baby safely on carpet, in the palms of your hands gently cup his feet. (Mctinys legs should be bent at knees to make a L shape.) Really gently, rotate his legs together, in a circle, while keeping a L shape. Gently move both legs together in a big wide circle, go gently. (This move was used at the most fussy moments.)

Another, fussy baby move is 'tiger hold.' 🐯
Have a look online 😂.

Naptune - you did loads!

I had gestational diabetes (mixed in with bp and prediabetes) and I am very shocked to have had a letter yesterday, telling me to shield and i will get a letter for a vaccine ( i am sure there will a couple of months of waiting for this.)

I am glad in one way to get the shielding letter as I really dont want covid again. But does that mean i cant take the kids to school?

Dancingtomusic · 23/02/2021 07:46

Sorry ED crossed post

Mixed feelings are a good way of putting it Ed, its true.
Hope the moths get sorted soon.

Morning all

Feeling stressed over the school returns, possible work return and possible everything opening as my due date approaches. Feel like a storm is looming and fancy making a Boris voodoo doll Angry

Ta da
🌪 all up fed dressed

🌪 made bed

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/02/2021 09:14

I think a lot of it is driven by fear. By rights I should get a free Flu jab as i have asthma but they changed the definition to say it is only allowed if you have certain inhalers. I am allergic to the inhalers. I also have a chronic cough which affect my ability to do things. So my fear is that I will catch this damn thing and it will kill be because I am not on any group for getting the vaccine before general population and general population is due AFTER they reopen. Which is great but I work retail and I am in college. So everyone is going to be screw covid, screw social distancing, screw protections the vulnerable people have had the vaccine and actually that isn't exactly true. And I long lost faith in people doing the right thing.

I am going to have an away from FB, news and general covid chatter and see if I can catch up with all the stuff that needs to be sorted for college. I am back in next week as the exams have been set up to go ahead now. They finally figured out how to run the professional exams that had to go ahead whilst the colleges and test centres were closed as required under covid home learning rules. Tbh glad i wasnt the one trying to figure that nonsense out!

I no longer have jar of nutella. the spoon was helpful in its demise Blush this is why i dont normally have it in the house!

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 09:53

I wondered if that’s why you asked dancing - and in fact I have just received that letter myself 😭 at least I assume it is, I balked at the many-page wall of text and gave it to DH to read for me 😳

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 09:53

Fuckity fuck fuck fuck. 😭

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/02/2021 09:56

Is it bad i now kinda wish i had had GD at some point BlushSad

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/02/2021 09:56

Sup Sing?

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 10:03

Previous post hills - added to shielding list

However it seems I can still go outside for exercise so a walk in the park is fine? But I can’t take Cagletini to nursery 🤔 which means DH will have to do both nursery runs, which will have an impact on his health/pain levels too, and that impacts everything...

But then it also says it’s not law, but recommendations... aaaargh

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 10:04

Sorry if that sounded snippy etc it wasn’t meant to

LOL that 😅 don’t blame you at all. How are you feeling atm? Is the SPD ok?

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/02/2021 10:08

Why the hell can't mn have an agree button?
Also edit button.

Computer keyboard is slowly slowly dying. Not a happy thing atm. The control key stuck yesterday. I need to sort the ordering out asap. I just cba. Blush

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 10:14

I know hills I would really love a like type thing available for witty comments etc too.

I’m not sure if I should phone the GP and ask or not. Need to phone psychiatrist today too - they’ll need to post my prescription now since I apparently can’t go and collect it (it can’t be wired directly to Boots because controlled meds 🙄)

Best have breakfast.

Dancingtomusic · 23/02/2021 10:30

That- no its not bad. I understand. I said to hubby 'its nice that gd came in handy for something!'

Hills - i am so sorry for you... hug!
I told hubby I would give my jab to him if I could. He has bad asthma and terrible immune system. He is always ill and can barely walk sometimes with his 3 slipped disks.

Sing- my concern is similar- sometimes he cant get out of bed or its a great struggle when his joints seize up- well that means I have to be on standby everyday to take the kids.
I am wondering whether to contact school any say is there any chance I could collect kids before or after all parents have collected or dropped off? I am sure they would help. The school were brillant when my dh was on crutches and could barely walk. Could you ask the nursery that too?

I am so grateful for the people that kindly keep two alsatians apart 🐕🐕....
There are ppl that dont sd...i have not enough swear words for them.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 23/02/2021 10:30

Spd is not too bad atm but i'm not really doing much apart from pottering about the house, sure when i am back on 2 school runs a day it will ramp up.

Dancingtomusic · 23/02/2021 10:36

Sing- that letter is sooo confusing i have had to read it several times...and i still didnt really get what it was trying to say. I just thought it was general information. Then i researched online why its been sent...then saw G D is a flag.
Dh had to read it for me too.

Sending you all a much needed sd hug! 🤗

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 11:18

Thanks dancing

I will have a proper read of it later I guess. Just eating breakfast finally. DS has been desperate to play the escape room game DH was given for his birthday so we had a go at the first room, DD1 even joined in! Nice to do something as a family for a bit :) I’ve put the dryer back on but also just accepting I’m a bit knocked for six really. Although since reading about the GD shielding thing (have seen it mentioned on Fb as well as MN) I have been half expecting it.

Oh well maybe we will get our jabs sooner. I’m surprised DH hasn’t had his invite yet but I know it varies by surgery and how they’re progressing.

EventuallyDeleted · 23/02/2021 11:51

We've been wondering if DH would get the letter too (Type 1). It's a big thing to suddenly have thrust on you on top of everything else. There are no immediate day to day health implications here but he works FT out of the home, can't be furloughed and is extremely busy (and specialised).

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 13:03

That’s so stressful ED :( I’ve been surprised at the order of people getting letters TBH.

I’ve phoned up and they confirmed it’s purely because of the GD. It was diet controlled, I’ve had hba1c tests since etc.

She also let me book my jab 😱 so that’s organised for Saturday. Turns out DH is definitely eligible too, but we’ve agreed not to have them on the same day in case we get the side effects.

Annoyingly it’s not at the town centre surgery, I’ll have to go to the partner one which is a bit of a faff, but oh well, I’ve not been there since starting to play Pokémon go so there will be new pokestops to keep me entertained on the journey 😆

Mc3209 · 23/02/2021 13:05

Sending hugs to all struggling with the recent announcements. Important thing to remember is that we will get through it. 💐

Dancing good tips, thank you! DS can now put things in his mouth, I am going to put his teehers in a freezer for a bit so he can chew on those.

ED that's very tricky. I hope things work out and you know soon what the plan is.

EventuallyDeleted · 23/02/2021 13:08

Not sure if it applies to anyone here, but anyone who gets Carer's Allowance can book a jab now you don't have to wait to be invited.

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 13:16

That’s why DH is eligible it turns out - we thought he’d get invited! Oops. He doesn’t actually get CA, because he’s on ESA due to his health, but he has what’s called “underlying entitlement” to it. He’s also technically in group 6 due to coeliac (it being an autoimmune condition that can apparently damage the spleen?!)

DS has done pretty well at his work today too, and done a mini Lego stop motion for scouts. He is procrastinating like mad over his English work though...

halfhope · 23/02/2021 13:20

I'm so slow today - I couldn't work out 'keeping two alsatians apart 🐕🐕'. I was thinking - well if they want to be together I'm not stopping them and then realised it was social distancing!

halfhope · 23/02/2021 13:21

Hope all who should have vaccines get them soon.

EventuallyDeleted · 23/02/2021 13:46

See, I'm not entitled to CA but it's purely because of the earnings limit. I'm going to talk to the GP surgery about this.
