It's February - Fledglings are Flying (let's face it there's not much else to do).

Here we are on the February 2021 Flylady thread - this time last year we were just starting to realise that the world was going to change in a big, big way. The Fledgling threads have pulled us all together and been a great source of comfort and distraction from it all.

This is a friendly housekeeping thread based (loosely... Extremely loosely sometimes 😂) on Flylady's housekeeping system . Welcome one and all, lurkers and long-time posters alike. Join in, hang out, but above all remember you are not behind, just jump in where you are.

The beauty of Flylady is that you don't have to flatten yourself trying to get your house clean to begin the routine upkeep; the first - and only - thing she asks you to do is to shine your kitchen sink. Routines - morning, afternoon and evening - are built gradually through her Baby Steps. To those, you add a Daily Focus and a weekly area to concentrate cleaning on. By the end of a month, your whole house will have had some attention. If you miss a bit, never mind, it'll come round next month!

For this month, I'll be posting daily links to the Launch Pad on the Flylady site so you can follow the daily focus and cleaning missions. You can sign up to receive emails from Flylady, but we suggest you don't - she sends masses, which will clog up your inbox and drive you insane into the bargain.

Because this thread has been running a while, there are some acronyms we use to make life easier
S&S - swish and swipe, round the bathroom to keep it acceptable daily
LOL - load of laundry. No, we don't find washing that funny!
Ned - born of a typo, a mythical being who assists with laundry mountains
The pointy stick ----> to motivate people
PO3 - Power of 3, if you can only face a few tasks. People often find groups of 3 tasks stack up over a day!
The Naughty Corner - where we head when it's all Too Much. Usually stocked with fresh coffee, fluffy throws, delicious snacks and the opportunity to sit quietly with friends or build a blanket fort and sulk in it if you need to.

During the Pandemic, we have also been using the KCC or Keep Calm Corner, invented by long-time poster / thread leader SC. This is a regular dose of memes, questions for discussion, random trivia etc to distract us from the rest of the world. All contributions welcome!

Shower time after weigh in (which will NOT be good). DD1 got up and Cagletini is awake too so it’s all fine, DS is still asleep though.

Maybe not bad after all. Lost 2lb this week, somehow

Monday is Home Blessing Day

I spend a few hours working on my room in a very distracted not focused way yesterday

I was up a couple of hours and then took a nap. Somehow i have managed to break part of a key of my laptop. Very odd. Time to move and focus I guess.

Ooh for once I’m ahead of the game, did a fair bit in the boudoir yesterday and earlier in the month... still a tip though.

Nursery run went really well - despite her late night Cagletini was up in plenty of time and didn’t stay grumpy long, she helped DH put away the tesco delivery too. Quite tired now so didn’t go via the park on the way home.

That’s annoying about the laptop key, is it replaceable?

Must have breakfast. There are croissants!

Kids couldnt fall asleep last night so i am letting them hv a lie in...

Did do abit tidying in main bedroon yest. Lots more left. Still cant reach dressing table.

Good move dancing not much gain in being up and grumpy/not ready to learn!

DS is a bit lethargic and took a while to wake up but he’s quite good at making himself do his daily exercise to get more awake, so he’s done a good workout on Ringfit and then showered. I think he will be reluctant to get back into work/screen free days though.

Can’t believe it’s back to home ed today. I’m glad we are back in some kind of routine though with nursery etc, before half term it just felt so difficult and stressful. I’m going to try and be more persuasive about him getting the more difficult/concentratey work during the mornings now, as it’s so much harder with Cagletini home! Usually he wants to do the iPad stuff first so it might be helpful that he can’t use it for now.

I also put two board games on the plan for the week though - get some quality time in (DD1 hates most games so she won’t feel left out!), he’s been wanting to play forbidden island for ages and then I’ve chosen frenetic for a bit of literacy/periodic table stuff. Those will have to be morning tasks too so it won’t be all book work for him 😂

Then afternoons will have to be lunch (DD1 should actually join in now as she wants to eat healthier) and then putting phones away again to get on with more work.

Probably not. But the Laptop is in the process of dying so it is just another part to that confirmation. Key is still usable but it has a sharp edge.

I think i missed a delivery this morning. Someone definitely rang the door bell. But I was asleep. I just know that the door bell get stuck because someone rang it and it has been randomly ringing in the way that it does. No idea who I missed, or what they wanted/tried to deliver. No card was left.

Oh no not the doorbell again (am I misremembering or was that causing trouble the other day?!). Maybe it was a cold caller? We’ve still had those even when we had one of the stickers that tell people not to 🤬 my favourite was the charity rep who when I pointed out said sign, tilted her head to one side in that patronising way and asked “can I ask WHY you have that sign?”

Because fuck off, that’s why 🙄 (no I wasn’t actually brave enough to say that). I do donate to charities obv just not from doorstepping.

Morning all!

Not much flying here today and we are all having a day off school / work / nursery because it's dd birthday, she is 7 today! So today we have had pancakes for breakfast, present opening, built dd new toy cot and highchair for her dolls and opened various other new toys...we were going to go to the park but the weather isn't so good and dd now says she wants to stay at home to play.

I will hopefully be back later to properly catch up! I keep saying that

Right, DS has had a break so must tear him away from his phone and see if DH is awake (he doesn’t always sleep but just needs to rest his back and legs). Not sure if DS is accompanying him to collect Cagletini or if he’s staying home to do more work...

Also still need to sort the dishwasher aaaargh

Need Ipad advice please...is there a way to set the ipad to watch an episode of go jetters and then stop my kids from clicking onto internet of something else?

Ooh! Coordinator for the volunteer role just emailed to arrange a chat this week. Scary. But exciting :)

Caglets eating lunch with Kpop playing instead of Netflix (as one episode invariably leads to more, so we end up not getting back to work in the afternoons), then it’s phones away to get on with stuff.

DS is talking DD1’s ear off about Stonehenge 😂

I have been planning to replace for a while, it has been an issue of availability.

I am trying to sort some school work stuffs for the teen. My give a fuck is broken. On a plus note teen was tired after being a dumbass about sleep and managed to put his squash in his bowl this morning. His give a fuck is also broken. We make a right pair sometimes.

Errrr DS, the idea of the tray was that Cagletini could play while you got on with work 😂

Once she’s bored with playing just with those I’m adding some of those little plastic gems you can stick on things, so she can balance them on top and match the colours etc

✊got DS to do maths and he chose the rest of his physics as his last bit of work
✊put LOL on of all the clothes we are donating to nursery (while feeling chuffed it was exactly one wash load)
✊put tray and toys out for Cagletini
✊reminded DD1 to eat something, leave her phone downstairs and finish today’s work so she’s doing that now (then after a proper break she can do some catch up work later)
✊got DS to move his laundry on
✊replied to volunteering email - said any day but Thursday
✊replied to therapist’s email to confirm a session in exactly a month. Sneaking in before (well deserved because she’s awesome) price increase. But also gives me enough time to sort out the training and hopefully find out more about my degree options as I am excited to tell her I’m actually making progress, as well as asking her thoughts as a psychologist on what psychology course I should do!

Feeling a bit achy now, which is annoying. DS has finished work for the day - this week’s plan is unambitious. Really need to load the DW! And take yesterday’s drying upstairs to put away later.

I'll have to get cracking on main bedroom. The carpet is shocking. Today did lots of work stuff but also online Tesco shop, plan and play a day early and office tidying. Was up early writing the ruddy report which has now gone. Laundry done, though some ironing awaits. It's feeling more like spring...
