Hello and welcome to the (slightly early) August Fledgling Thread! Join us for housework chat and a ridiculous amount of non housework chat too.

We follow (supposedly) the FlyLady system, which helps you gradually build up a set of routines. This month I won’t be putting regular links on, but there will be regular references to whatever the current zone and daily focus is. Please ask if you need any further info!

Here are some links to get you started (but don’t sign up for the emails as you’ll get inundated!)

www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/ - a set of little tasks to gradually add to your day - some are a bit twee so pick and choose what you want!

www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions - this updates weekly with a set of five specific tasks for the weekly zone - worth checking for ideas! I will try and remember to remind us what zone we are in. It changes on a Sunday and we will be starting with Zone 1, the entrance/porch/hallway, and dining room if you have one.

www.flylady.net/c/lp.php - this contains links for most other things so is a good place to check if you don’t know where to start

It looks like the focus of the month for August is LAUNDRY - getting into the habit of a full load washed, dried and away each day.

Also I was bored a while back so I put together a little glossary of the many weird and might-seem-a-bit-cliquey terms. We have been going a long time but we always love newbies - hopefully this list will help you settle in.
KCC - the Keep Calm Corner, invented by our lovely Fledgling SC back in March, where the OP posts nice diverting links, memes, questions etc to distract us from the pandemic.

Ta Da - instead of a to do list (which is of course welcome too) we often post our achievements, with accompanying jazz hands, in order to celebrate the positives, however small they seem! Sometimes if we want to share an embarrassed giggle/commiserations we also post a ta didn’t - the stuff we didn’t get done. Oops.

BRC - Bag/Box of Random Crap. These are usually formed when we are panic tidying and shove anything in “to sort later” which is also known as a stash and dash.

Power of Three or PO3 - the idea that if you’re feeling really unmotivated/overwhelmed by your to do list, you just choose three things to do, and then post when you’ve done them.

Cherry Waves - borne of a typo of “cheery waves” this is now - to the extent my autocorrect just changed it again - often how we sign off. You may also see it in emoji form! 🍒👋🙋🏻 (😷 for socially distanced waves!).

Haughty Corner - this is from a typo of the naughty corner - the virtual hangout spot where we hide from housework and eat virtual snacks.

Future Friend or FF - the idea (apparently coming from The Organised Mum Method) of doing something to make life easier for yourself in future. Includes things like choosing clothes for the next day, getting bags ready etc.

DLMS - didn’t lose my shit - in other words, somehow stayed relatively calm despite a stressful day!

SS/S&S - Swish and Swipe - this is one of the key parts of the morning routine, a quick once over of the bathroom.

And a few basics:
LOL - load of laundry
WM - washing machine
TD - tumble dryer
DW - dishwasher
HSL - hallway, stairs, landing

And finally, for any Fledglings old or new who are trying to lose weight in lockdown, here’s our new body clutter banishing thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weight_loss_chat/3975886-Body-Clutter-Be-Gone-The-Fledglings-Weightloss-Thread?pg=1

I’ll stop waffling there. Welcome one and all, a huge thank you to KTCluck for steering us through July while also working, and away we go for August! 🍒👋

Afternoon all

I couldn’t sleep till almost 5, the caglets finally slept around 2 I think but then the toddler woke up screaming as she almost fell off the bed 🤦‍♀️ And then I was totally wired. (Not my fault for drinking the Pepsi at lunch, no, not at all 🙄😳). Anyway DS had a great birthday and that’s the main thing bless him. I’m just on a brief mission to get some giant paper for DD1 to do a poster for DH’s work thing. But enjoying some peace and quiet first 🤫

🏆🥇🏆🥇🏆🥇🏆

So it’s Monday but it is bank holiday here, so if you want to Bleugh then do it but... you have an Official Fledgling Pardon (which definitely covers our fledglings even if elsewhere in the world! NFLB, right?) if you’d rather not. We are in zone 5 for the final day, so the living room can get a bit of love if you feel like it. Missions are here. www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions

KCC I’m bringing out an old one I’m afraid, but in the interest of a monthly summary (I REALLY need to do my diary tonight FFS) What are you proud of yourself for this month? And what are your aims for September?

For me it’s mainly getting through it. August is often a tough month, I think because of the lack of routine, so coming off the back of lockdown that’s been a bit tricky, but I’ve still kept going despite some bad days. Ending the month a little lighter and definitely fitter than I started it, and got good feedback on my assignments.

September will hopefully see us get a little more organised in the family sense (pretty sure that’s an aim every single month though!) and inspired by a discussion up thread, my main aim is to embrace life as it is now - to accept the uncertainty around clubs etc and to crack on with socialising in new ways etc :)

I should point out I haven’t only just woken up 😂 I was awake before ten but basically lazed around and got the caglets to clear up 😳😂

Ta da:
✅ big pile of ironing
✅ our bedding and duvet washed and washing line snapped while trying to hang it out. Draped it over garden furniture instead
✅ DW set off
✅ random bits of tidying
✅ DD’s bag packed for nursery tomorrow. First official day of pre-school
✅ swooned over Christmas planner

Just returned home from a sunny afternoon visiting family, a nice end to the summer holidays.

To do:
📌bath DD and cut her fingernails, attempt an early bedtime
📌prep overnight oats
📌make our bed with spare duvet
📌pamper myself - moisturiser, eyebrows and pedicure

To be fair sing, you could be excused for waking up that late after not getting to sleep until 5!

Can’t believe there’s still nothing sorted for DS schoolwise Zoo Angry

KCC - this month I’m proud that I feel we managed to rescue the summer. We had some nice trips out, a few beach days and don’t feel like we wasted the sunshine. I actually feel like we had a bit of a break although we didn’t get the holiday abroad we’d planned

For September I really need to sort myself out diet and exercise wise, but I’d also like to plan some family days again to make sure we do some more nice things to break up the grind of work/nursery and housework.

MogTheSleepyCat · 31/08/2020 20:02

Ta Da
Folded and put away x2 loads of laundry
Another load washed and dried - will fold tomorrow
Bed made
Trip into town

  • Bought some new hiking boots
  • Bought some new work shoes
  • Eyebrows threaded
  • Read book and enjoyed a coffee in a quiet little tea room, my spirit feels renewed!
Chicken chores - raked run, topped up feed, collected eggs Batch cooking done Cats fed Washed up pots and pans Loaded dishwasher Wiped kitchen surfaces Work bag packed for the morning

Unless someone else wants to take on the September thread, I can do it. Will set up by 9:30 tonight unless I hear otherwise from any other fledglings.

Mc3209 · 31/08/2020 20:10

Ta Da:
🎉Kitchen cleaned
🎉Bathroom cleaned
🎉Carpets 'rubber brushed' to get rid of hair 🤢, hoovered upstairs and downstairs.
🎉Cleaned hoover filter. That's one of the jobs I really don't like doing.
🎉LOL X3

Then went for a walk with DH in nearby park, and now I've got no energy. At all. I am at the stage of starting to feel heavy, with Braxton Hicks when walking, which makes any exercise fun 🥴

Also, exercise aside, I am a little worried DH is finding me dull and boring at the moment, as by the time I get through the working day I've got nothing going on between the ears come the evening. Give me silly telly and a sofa/bouncy ball and that's me content. I cannot carry on any form of stimulating conversation. Eh. Empty tanks on all fronts lately.

September thread here

'See' you all in the morning!

merryhouse · 31/08/2020 21:54

TaDa
exercise class (I can't keep up, even with two other middle-aged women. but I have good form...)
lol (dried outside!)
washed up
made fish pie
hoovering
changed S2's bed
emptied kitchen bin
put bin out

S2 has just returned - they watched Tenet at the new fancy cinema and had a meal.

Husband of a Facebook Friend has died. We've never met and I only know them because we share a surname (haven't traced the connection, but he's not descended from my 4-greats-grandfather - even though a photo of his grandfather looks spookily similar to my dad on his wedding day)

howlathebees · 31/08/2020 21:58

Sorry for the late post! It’s a busy few days. We got home at 7 last night and attempted DS3 in his own room but it didn’t go well at all I think he missed the comfort of having his brothers with him. So we’ve decided to keep them in the same room but stagger bedtimes, so DS3 will go at 7 and we’ll settle him. DS2 then goes in the spare room and has some wind down time and will read to him for a bit then at 7:30 will go to bed and then DS1 has the spare room and then bed at 8. It’s nice as we get a bit of grown up time with DS1 which he liked tonight. It worked really well, DS3 stirred when DS2 got into bed but went straight back to sleep so it looks like that’s the way we’re doing bedtime now!.

We had a lovely last day of the holiday, we hiked up a mountain and then walked down the waterfall. The kids loved it. Then we popped to IKEA today to have a look at some things for the nursery. DH is back to work tomorrow and then we have a week of getting ready for school. Jude is starting to get a bit nervous now, we got his shoes today and he cried. He’s so used to being at nursery with his brothers I think he’s a bit stressed out being on his own again. I just hope we can spoil him this week and make everything a bit special and exciting for him.

I wish I could decorate cakes merry, but I’m awful. My step mums amazing at it though she does the kids cakes!

hazel the chocolate covered strawberry cake looks amazing! Brilliant decluttering!

meg I don’t wrap until a few days before otherwise I get very confused. I have everything else in order but I’m still one to do Christmas Eve panic wrapping.

Your drive sounds lovely bower, I’ve been caught out having a nature wee quite a few times after bringing a flask out!

Great work lisette!

I’d love to go on a hot air balloon zoo it sounds amazing.

foxes that cake sounds so tasty.

sing I’m glad that DS had a good birthday! Sorry about the lack of sleep!

mog I’m happy for you to do September :)

Mc I think my DH might feel a bit like that too. By the time he gets home from work I’m ready to hand over the kids and then go to bed!.

KCC I’m proud of getting through August and keeping 3 children and 5 animals alive😂. For September I hope to get back into the swing of things with work and school.

ta da
