Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

KTCluck · 30/06/2020 21:50

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

MrsTidy 🤣😂🤣 It’s my age! I can’t keep stuff in my head for long. Starting to forget names of things. DH and BF are the same otherwise I would be more worried strangely I was better at work than home and had to about 170 names at the tip of tongue and some others that I just knew from past years. Occasionally said pet or petal only admonished once by a boy of about ten🤣 who said he didn’t want to be my pet!

Merryhouse apologies to you and green fingered H. Sounds fantastic. I am planning more next year. Unfortunately I missed the ‘ Potato 🥔 Day’ as I had a whole day of choir that day and then didn’t get to garden centre before lock down though we do have a few which have grown and BF has too😳 which we will gladly dig up soon. We have done loads this year and now DH is digging for me we have an almost weed free garden.
We didn’t have THIS garden until the DC left home. We had some but the main part was a football pitch for years then DD with her gymnastic pals and bikes.

So far
Trip out briefly, dropped off black currants to DS1. Letter (anti pro ) posted. Breakfast banana sandwich and tea. Banana needed used up.

Boudoir: bed made, chest of drawers everything removed and all dusted and chest dusted. Window sill wiped.

S&S bathroom.

That’s all as DH bought me two, yes two, gardening magazines while he was in newsagent/PO. So, of course, I had to read some it would be rude not to.😂 He rarely buys one even if I ask him. I tend to hoard them which is probably why.

Need to vacuum boudoir and hall and stairs. I didn’t do it last week as builder was coming back so no point but he hasn’t so need to do it. Looking mucky now.

Marta yeah doesn’t really work as well as baby grumpling it reminded me of the book Each Peach Pear Plum.😁 what about trumblings? Zoo has one and SC sometimes have one and somebody had a near teen. I have forgotten who now. Mine have flown but DD was harder work at that age.
Meg I might do but every time I start a diet I think about food more. At present we are eating quite healthily most of the time considering DH is shopping. We have one cake/ loaf a week which is our treat. Pudding if we have it is mostly fruit.
I need to do more exercise.

Right better get back to it. I still have a day in hand for boudoir. I rarely finish it. Maybe this time.

Bowerbird5 · 23/07/2020 13:03

🤫 Leaves Zoo a bowl of salad and a flask of tea.creeps out🐁

LaneBoy · 23/07/2020 13:05

That’s great meg! I’m happy with that :) I’ll pop over now to mark my place.

Having a houseworky day. DD1’s friends are both struggling at home and she’s begged for them to meet here - it seems we are seen as the most welcoming and nicest parents of the three. So that’s something I guess Hmm (TBF I am happy that DD1 trusts us with this stuff too). But I had a chat with her about the fact she needs to chip in and get the place a bit nicer and to understand that having people round is a bit knackering for us. So we are trying to get stuff done but with relaxing in between!

Hello everyone

[Adds another fluffy blanket to Zoo's day-bed, and some home made ice tea with lots of mint leaves and ice]

I can't keep up with thread but wow I love the picture of your allotment Easilydelighted (lots of them are quite tightly packed in and that looks lovely and spacious) with a beautiful sky line and it's beautifully tended too. Star

And I am thoroughly Envy of everyone's vegetable growing triumphs! I hope to emulate you all in a year or so... . For now I am cheating as the lovely farmer who looks after dhorse gave me a huge bag of his home grown potatoes straight out of the ground and they are ... delish!

Very busy day here. Lots of cleaning and baking and wrapping all in the middle of about the two most important two meetings of the year.

Sorry about your mum and negativity re: weight loss Meg it's such a weighted subject in our own minds (no pun intended) that the last thing we need is close family members pulling us down too. Flowers

Marta you have done so brilliantly with your lo's feeding! Brew Hats off to you for managing that huge list of tasks too! Star

Tally-ho eveyrone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/07/2020 16:28

DS stressed,dd2 full tears post camhs email session- always ends up exhausted from pre session nerves few days beforehand and depressive realisation this is not going away easily
Lil zoo has laptop and phone despite be told repeatedly wasn't allowed them and scowled at me when I lost it as she lay on both semi dozing and threatened lamp her if went sleep
On 21/2 hrs sleep I've
Shopped
Wipe and put away
Cut grass
Water plants I got yesterday that drooping a bit
Fed everyone
Managed get do much shampoo in my eye washing hair Scarlett eyeball
Brains marshmallow as I try sort out the IKEA order for zoolets bedroom furniture, what ment to be ordering/fits etc
Need write list stuff couldn't get as dd2 plans changed and can do bit shop for us later

It's now super cloudy out, like might rain
I really need finish basic clear up and have hot shower but I serious wrecked and hips so stiff not convince can get in and out bath
This is deffo not living the dream day

merryhouse · 23/07/2020 19:00

Did you manage the shower/bath, zoo?

TaDa
s&s x2
did crossword
made lunch
took five pairs of torn trousers to sewing place
did produce and dairy shop
made bed
cleaned bedroom window (did S2's while I was about it, as he was in the study practising at the time)
put on a sandwich loaf (pan didn't stick again!)
made spag bol
sewed one of parted seams of gi (actually involved a tiny bit of darning too)
started report! I mean, a very basic start, involving little more than creating a new file from the template and putting in a date or two and a few names... but it's a start

ToMorrow
go for a walk
whites wash, and change bedding
sew other parted seam of gi
look at shirt that's in the pile - I think it's just there for a button
do more of report, and download the ones people have sent
find a philatelist and ask if they want M's collection of 80s first-day covers

The two-tone beep of the Tesco scanner sounds just like the beginning of the section of tuba concerto that S2 has been practising recently... especially when you beep twice in quick succession. I think I may be cracking up

LaneBoy · 23/07/2020 19:32

merry I’m intrigued as to what a gi is? A gilet? Or does it stand for something as all I can think of is gastrointestinal and I really hope you’re not fixing one of those :o

Hugs zoo x

Hi all,
Sunny here now. Weather is crazee at moment. Glad it rained on my flowers though.

Zoo waaah. You need that relaxing bath or at least a nice cup of tea.
(sad face - not allowed dairy because dd gets refluxy)

Merry haha you need to take along your spoons to Tesco next time and clack along to the beeps. Grin

Xmummy they're wee sausages at this age aren't they. Smile. I do feel a bit sorry for Dd, being so close to Christmas, everyone being skint after festivities. She just narrowly missed being born on blue monday. Grin. At least it's an excuse for a party when we all need cheering up.

Squandered fresh potatoes are so gorgeous. Yum. You must be very busy, looking after a horse.

Lane of course you are the coolest parent. Its nice to get a vote of confidence.

Borrowed well done on doing boudoir things. I'm glad someone is Smile. I still haven't dragged out the vacuum bags. Hope to get two out before DD bedtime.
Yes my DS is a trumpling (although DD emits loud and proud trumps in her nappy on a regular basis)
Waves to everyone. Grin
So far have still only managed the swish and swipe and 2 x hotspots.
Did a 15 minute yoga and didnt fall over.
Went for a walk/shop with DD, who wailed and all the dogs ran away. Ended up with her in the sling until she fell asleep then put her back in the pram and had a nice leisurely shop without any screeching. Aaaaa
The feeding this morning was like when cookie monster eats and the cookies all fall out.
I gave her some avocado this evening, which appeared to go into her tummy, which was hilarious. She seemed to have a tummy ache after? I might just give her one bit of food for the first week?
Boodwa have now dragged out two bags to vacuum closed tonight.
Have to unload washing as couldn't spin until DS got up and then was too busy.
Put on a load of tumble drying just to get the dampness off of the dry clothes.
Had Tacos. Quite nice.
Am pooped

LaneBoy · 23/07/2020 21:49

Oooh yes, DS is a TKDer so I know (vaguely) only the Korean terms🥋 I like Japanese ぎ but haven’t got very far in several years of dabbling!

So plans changed again, and one friend isn’t allowed out at all, and the other also isn’t but the mum said DD1 could go back there. Which kind of defeats the point IMHO but hey not my kid! And anyway, we definitely got more housework done because we thought we’d have a guest. 😳😂

BTW she was fine after the impromptu long drive - they weren’t allowed in so sat in the car (assuming mum and the relative who drove them were allowed in) and, thank goodness, the patient is off life support and awake and improving. Have spoken to DD1 about the fact that whisking her off with them wasn’t really OK under current circumstances, but she wasn’t in trouble and that in future she needs to try and remember to ring us if there’s a big plan change like that. I’m glad they weren’t allowed in to the hospital TBH, I can only imagine the anxious sleepless nights that would have followed 😣 even without the pandemic.

I’ll be back to post my list in a bit, but for now I’m sulking as I just left this post to do my teeth and managed to squish my thumb while shutting the bathroom window! FFS 😂

KTCluck · 23/07/2020 22:05

Hi everyone, just flying through to make up for my lack of actual flying

Excellent lists everyone (Meg that’s a lot of ta Das for ‘zero flying’ Grin). Hope the eye is ok Zoo.

I’m also impressed with the green goddesses among you. I’ve only ever attempted chillis which failed miserably. Although we did have a fabulous mint plant by the back door in our last place which was handy for mojitos.

Had a busy day at work, but I did manage to crack on with something I’ve been putting off for a while so I’m giving myself a Star and ignoring the messy living room and unwashed dishes I’ve abandoned to come to bed.

Tomorrow is likely to be fully packed too - I’m attempting the downstairs home bleurgh on a work day so I’ve got some time to spend with DD on Saturday morning before we go off gallivanting for our anniversary.

I’m going to do links now just in case I don’t manage in the morning...

launchpad.

KCC - dinky the blue tit

Night all, I’ll be back at some point tomorrow 👋

Impressive lists everyone!

Another full day at work today, but over the last couple of days I did have a couple ta das:

🌻 Dusted living room and our bedroom.

🌻 Dusted/ swept under the bed.

🌻 Made casserole that will feed us for a couple days (lunches and dinners)

🌻 Cleaned kitchen.

🌻 Got outfit out for next day.

Ok, that wasn't actually today, but I did work 10 hours and am so tired! I did manage to get a new screen protector on my phone, DH talked me into it, we just won't mention that we've had these phones since March and only just put the screen protector on (still had original one on) 😄

I had to join in on the weightloss thread too.

bower I forgot to mention that I have those same tiles as your floor tiles, but they are in the shower on the wall. We were able to get a coloured grout so went with a tan. DH installed the tiles and said he never wants to do them again... until I make him at the next house we buy lol!

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/07/2020 06:40

We have a couple of blue tits visiting the feeders, love them❤️

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 24/07/2020 06:53

Morning all

Managed get to shops yesterday and got what could get from Tesco uniform wise. I am only buying what we will need incase it all goes wrong and they end up home schooling again! E.g. two pairs of trousers for dc1 instead of 4/5. He will be wearing full PE kit twice a week so think this will be fine. DD only needed cardigans (got) tights (got) and waterproofs (not got) I am 'reusing' clean unstained polos etc which tbh i wouldnt normally do but they were only used half a year and are FINE

The big spend this year is DS2 who needs full (mostly logo) secondary uniform £££ will be ordering this online plus couple bits for DS1.

At the moment 2 of the 4 need school shoes but will check that again in a few weeks.

Also went around the house yesterday and got rid of any cobwebs which made me feel like i was covered in spiders!

Brew

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/07/2020 09:12

Good luck with OT trip meg
That I bought lil zoo tights wednesday whilst in supermarkrt.she swears everything else fits.need to check!D's will only need uniform once placements been wrangled out,dd2 needs "smart casual" for 6form so will order few pair trousers as rip jeans/combats ain't gonna cut it!

On news yesterday cases rising here.mobile testing units in place in town centre and warnings to use masks, socially distance etc.theres huge amounts people here nip in out each others homes and as rise isn't pinpointed to anywhere or any age group there's clearly too much indoor mixing.warnings of lockdown if continues to rise at this rate(7% increase in a week)

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 24/07/2020 09:50

Thats crap zoo our cases are pretty low but we are not far at all from two of the top ten worst areas which is slightly worrying!

Think i will make the first order of logo school stuff today! Have to do it in two lots so can judge sizing, do not want to go in the teeny tiny shop!

Bowerbird5 · 24/07/2020 10:16

Increasing here to Zoo people going to house parties then going to lots of pubs. Ridiculous. Also threatened with lockdown if it spikes too high. Won’t affect us as still behaving as if we were in lockdown.Dh walking further but otherwise we are staying in.

ED meant to say that your allotment looks great. I love the look of allotments. There are not many in the city and tucked away whereas in Bristol there were loads and we often passed them. There were some right next to DDs Uni campus and near one of the houses she lived in and we went to the open day. It was a new one on a neglected large plot of land and a community project. I loved walking around. A great way to learn from more experienced gardeners too.

DH has gone walking. I don’t mind as it gives me a break to do what I want.

Plan
Sort and tidy one area of boudoir.
S&S
Wash kitchen floor.
Rest of kitchen is quite tidy as we’ve been keeping on top of it. Just a couple of things on the table.
Read some of my book.
Sort a BRC.

Sort food for this evening. Fish. Need to take scallops out of the freezer.

Had a visit yesterday from a little girl from church. She had been for a short walk with her dad. They sit on the next pew and are such a lovely family. So she came to see the hens and I showed her the summer house and garden. Dad stayed outside at the gate and DH went to speak to him. He has had covid. He said he is testing negative and no one in the family has had it. He’ll be in early forties I think and works as a carer in homes and 1:1 for some young adult males with disabilities.
He is still struggling breathing, has pain in his back and ribs and has no energy. He said it was the first time he had been out. It brought home to me that I was right to stay home. He is a young, healthy and fairly fit man and he was struggling to finish his sentences. He said it was absolutely awful and he did end up in hospital.

I don’t mean to frighten any of you but just want to say stay safe and take care. I was shocked at the state of him six weeks after. He won’t be at work for quite a while I would say. He said he is on a What’s App Group for Corona victims and lots of them are like him.
He is the second person that I know that has had it. The other one seemed to recover quickly.

Right must get cracking.

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 24/07/2020 12:16

I need some motivation!

Bower scary he is still feeling so rough!

I will be paying for a flu jab this winter and probably for 12 year old ds too. I see that 11 year olds will be offered it this year, will that be as an injection does anyone know?

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/07/2020 12:35

that D's had the nasal spray last winter aged 13.
We are in top ten of worst affected currently.in perspective about half cases of Leicester per 100,000 people(there's is 40+) but theres were caused by people working in factories during lockdown whilst I'll/asymptomatic.a lot of areas are around 10 or under per 100,000 .don't sound many but I clearly remember there being 47 deaths in UK then suddenly we were in hundreds..
Bower dd1 friend has had covid.a keen runner he had it just before lockdown.he still cannot run more couple mins without getting out of breath and ge ran mini marathons before scares me silly as I get out breath already over nothing...we shop (for food)at quiet times and walk in big open spaces.no ones been in,or been in anyone's homes.dd1 been in back garden with distancing.i reluctant do anything differently as if I get I'll and end up incapacitated or in worst case scenario hospital/die there's no one to care for my frightened zoolets which is tbh giving me nightmares.also if D's or dd2 were to get very ill they wouldn't cope as both have health anxiety/freak if feel "odd" and couldn't manage if had go into hospital as I wouldn't be allowed with them.im terrified sending girls back sept for these reasonsSad

Sorry to bring thread down

Tada
❤️Everyone fed(brekkie at 10 I just could not get going today as had very bad night)
