Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

bower hope they are ok.qell done on bathroom
Lane did you get any quiet time today?

I crashed and burned pm,ended up eating sugar and still exhausted so had nap.on this occasion it's not help really and I'm still very tired!!

Continued doing laundry after lunch, nothing else

Dd2 as in decent fettle, now very grumpy and ranting at me.funtimes...

Simple tea tonight as so tired-
Pasta pesto with broccoli and chopped tomato
Yogurt with black grapes, nectarine and plum slices

I fancy huge pile garlicky mushrooms and some squash so as it's a bung in oven job I think that's on the cards for me.i will probably add some peppers and I think there's a few bits asparagus lurking that can go in too😋

TaDa
got up to make packed lunch for S2, off to see The Girlfriend (again!)
suggested he put sunscreen on because it was looking quite sunny. He did. By ten it was all grey...
s&s x2
hoovered downstairs while H was out on his cycle
exercise class
shower etc
made bed
made lunch
ironed S1's shirt because it's been folded and squashed then sitting in a suitcase since mid-March. He was going to go out in it anyway but we said no Grin
churned rum and raisin ice cream (now in the naughty corner)
made menu plan and short shopping list while waiting
went to Tesco's
emptied compost bucket
(did some more jigsaw)
made curry with the stewing beef
hoovered upstairs while sons were out
emptied bins, emptied vacuum cleaner, put rubbish in outside bin and bin at roadside, put new bag in kitchen bin (ooh, must put new bag in bedroom bin, I always forget)
sliced and froze rest of sandwich loaf
put nail varnish on crack in glass top of bedside cabinet - I knocked it with a pint glass (which amazingly remained whole) a while back and noticed recently that the crack is growing
asked S1 about his room clearing - apparently he's already told them we can't really do it in a day so they'll clear his stuff into storage while it's cleaned

Haven't done the ironing but that's ok.

oh, I should put the ice cream churner back in the freezer so it's ready for the next lot

Going to do that and the bin bag now, then catch up on crosswords and maybe buy some puzzle books (my MiL sent me an amazon voucher for this express purpose and I've nearly finished the ones she bought me for Christmas)

ToDo tomorrow
make start on report
look at emails
do the ironing
make base for peanut butter ice cream

Evening fledglings

There are some mighty impressive lists today! Mine isn’t one of them however. I attempted some yoga when I got up but I’d woken up boiling so was all hot and bothered. I enthusiastically went for a forward fold and went all dizzy and nearly fell over. That was the end of that. At least I tried though eh. Hopefully more successful in the morning. Other than that I managed an LOL, survived work, and avoided eating crap.

SC Grin at dead badger. I’m channeling Cousin It at the moment. It’s worrying about the rising infection rates near you. Ours are so low in my area / hospital that it’s easy to be lulled into a false sense of security, but it can all change so quickly.

Love the quote Zoo

Glad you enjoyed some peace in the pub Lane.

KCC (better late than never) cute animal buddies

I’m off for an early night (with the window open to hopefully avoid further morning yoga incidents). Night all!

ZooIt was a customer. Not sure if we have to get tested. DS2 has been here twice recently. They all live on their own. DS1& 2 work for the same company at premises about 100 yds from each other. DS3 works with DS2 and they used to live together but DS2 bought a house in the country. So he is now on his own in city. He is very tidy.
Supper sounds yummy especially yours. I love garlic mushrooms. We had left over roast pork from Co op it was very good. Enough for a sarnie each tomorrow. Strawberries and sorbet.

Merry was it your DS2 with not a girlfriend?
Great list.

I’ve only got 🐞dusted sitting room
🐛wiped the architrave on kitchen cupboards and wiped over cupboards as DH has been opening drawers with mucky hands. That is the beauty of white it shows up immediately and you can clean it straight away.
🐝Fed hens and cleaned them out.Persephone is still broody.
🐌 watered tomatoes. Also hanging baskets.
Need to do more tomorrow. Getting bathroom back together was a bit slow as DH had put bits around and about. Found my make up (foundation) accidentally .

KTCluck · 20/07/2020 20:58

Cross-post Meg, another mega-list (pizza is better than McDonald’s). It’s our 5th anniversary - I have definitely earned a nice night away as well as a hefty medal Grin

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 20/07/2020 21:05

MegPizza is balanced.carbs, veg, protein and calcium in cheese.it is also the best fast food as it's only thing all of mine would eat(and vegan ones, esp when use hummus instead tomato sauce then just top veg and the absolute bomb>

Bowerbird5 · 20/07/2020 21:20

KTC such a lovely story re KCC Yoga incidents? Missed something I think.
Mmm vegan pizza with houmous yes please zoo can you leave some in the corner for tomorrow.

LaneBoy · 20/07/2020 21:38

I too am intrigued at yoga incidents 🤔🧘🏻‍♀️

I’ve been really knackered since town but have managed the odd thing here and there. No more decluttering except a bit of defunct clothing while tidying stairs

LaneBoy · 20/07/2020 21:39

Oh never mind I just read back 😳 that’ll teach me for posting before catching up! Will read properly now

LaneBoy · 21/07/2020 00:09

HungryHazelEyes · 21/07/2020 04:44

Awww the bunny and dog together are so cute!

lane congrats on your weight loss!

I have forgotten who said what now, this thread moves quickly! I do remember that there were many impressive lists.

Camping was a lot of fun, nice to get away with no service for a couple of nights. I did wash up the dishes while we were up there (used the kettle on the camping stove to warm up water) so I did very minimal flying!

When we got home Sunday afternoon we cleaned the trailer (well, just emptied the black tank) and put everything away. That is something I've been better about doing- putting away clean clothes from the suitcase instead of putting it off for later.

We got in the pool in the evening, it was lovely warm water.

I worked today. Tonight I stopped by the store to pick up some chicken and veg for dinner. We ended up getting sushi 😆 and I ended up eating way too many calories and carbs. Ugh!

I did get home to a fairly clean house. Dishes were loaded in the dishwasher to go on tonight, laundry had been worked on (a load of towels that I threw in the washer last night, waiting to be turned on).

They had vacuumed and mopped as well. I shouldn't have too much to do tomorrow when I'm off.

I have attached some pics of our camping trip, the hanging stars decoration was there, I'm assuming was made the weekend of 4th of July, but brightened our time there so left it for future visitors.

KT don't overdo it! I had a few lightheaded moments this weekend (about 2 hours!), until I went back to bed! Thank goodness we were camping so felt I could be lazy and go back to bed. I need to get back to doing yoga regularly, it's just doing it! When do you find is the best time for yoga?

bower I hope your DSs are okay.

zoo are you still having trouble sleeping? I'm so sorry to hear that 😔

SC (I think) I hope things settle down for you, it sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now.

KTCluck · 21/07/2020 05:40

I went dizzy and nearly toppled over Bower as I was far too hot before I started.

First thing works best for me Hazel (normally!) The camping trip looks lovely, what a gorgeous dog.

Well done on the weight loss Lane, and another impressive list.

I really should get up but I am comfy and don’t want to got to work. Will drag myself up, attempt yoga, and need to finish sorting the kitchen.

Well i really bloody enjoyed yesterday. It was so chilled not bouncing between three lots of DCs school work while juggling baby and trying to prevent 3 year old destroying the house!

Decluttered two cupboards and a drawer in the kitchen Grin also binned a few random bits around the house. Got dd to try on school shoe (they fit!) and uniform (a lot of this also fits!)

Went to feed the ducks, did a quiz with dc1 and some craft stuff with dc3 and 4

Today is dc2s official very last day of primary school. So he has a nice day a head! Take away tonight to celebrate!

squanderedcore · 21/07/2020 06:55

Morning all! I am crumped from yesterday's window cleaning and home bleughing (still to finish) as I found out when trying to heave on the old treggings this morning. Gah, I am really over this menopausal bone creak. [SC slaps on oestrogel.]

Depressingly huge list to plough through today, including loads of work admin unfortunately.

Wow to everyone's activities! Bravo fledglings!

Take care of yourselves re: the light-headed moments KTCluck and Hazel. I can never understand how people do that particular type of yoga practised in heated studios. I'd be carried out on a stretcher. Love the animal pics!

Hazel Love your dog's expressive face Smile and glad you had such a lovely camping break. Wow the photos of the moose and the terrain near you are incredible! Such beautiful countryside!

Bravo to bathroom sorting Bower hope your two 'boys' are ok.

Bravo re weight loss Lane I am back on the MFP and eating lots of salad. Fab list! Star

Like Bower love a garlic mushroom! Have you tried pesto and breadcrumb stuffed mushrooms Zoo? Hairy Bikers recipe good! Sorry about the teen angst. Not nice being (verbal) punch bag.

Heavens Megiddo your brood have certainly been keeping you busy!. Glad your DS3 is ok. And hope your ds1 settles in happily. Sorry to have missed/forgotten previous info but is this his first time away from home (love the emergency sock and pant wash!)? Is he moving in very early or is the new term starting soon? (Usually start Oct don't they or is there a pre-sessional?) Hope you get some time for yourself this week and a well deserved rest (if poss)!

Ta for nudge Toostressy and Star for getting uniform organised in advance.

Merry your mil sounds nice (as does home churned rum and raisin ice-cream!)

Glad you are feeling better Mummy and you had a lovely time with your dad.

Hope your mornings are slightly less pressured if not exactly leisurely now school is out That!

Sorry can't scroll down further and the furries are swirling so must take them out and then crack on.

🍒😷✋ to Foxes Chic Lisette ED Tidy AWOL and Honu if you are still lurking and anyone else I have inadvertently missed off!

squanderedcore · 21/07/2020 07:00

X post: see you have That! Smile. Hats off to decluttering too!

KTCluck · 21/07/2020 07:48

I am pleased to report the yoga video was completed successfully without keeling over. Kitchen spick and span and the traffic was kind to me. Weighed in and I’ve lost a pound so a good start to the day.

Good luck with your long to do list today SC. Hope the bone ache doesn’t hang about.

That Sounds a lovely day yesterday. Hope DS2 enjoys today.

Hazel thank you for sharing photos. It looks an amazing place to camp and lucky to see the moose. Your dogs face😁

Meg ah that clears it up. I just loved hearing about NG.
I also get confused. I spoke about DS boyfriend and was told off later ‘ he is more than a boyfriend’ then the following year introduced him as her partner only to get told off later to which I said ‘well you're not married’ anyway the NM are still together in NZ. They have been together for at least 10 years and we love him. We hope they do stay together. I think he has been the only one. She didn’t tell us when she started going out with him but we think it was around seventeen.
Also old gimmer.
KTC oh dear. I missed reading that. Might have been me skimming as DH kept interrupting me.

Was up late as couldn’t sleep so have stayed in bed. Really need to crack on after a cup of tea.

Cherry 🍒 waves to all. Some massive lists.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/07/2020 12:30

meg to ment to ask was dd2 ok after disturbing you bath to tell you he had vomited?
It is sad when the to go,but weird for them having a timetable as such when a taste of freedom ment doing things when suits them.hope he enjoys it
Hazel gorgeous pics
KT well done surviving yoga
Lane yay at weightless
SC I know EXACTLY what you mean.old joints/bones are stiff and somewhat painful most of the time...

Tada
Up before 6,had dd2 up by 6,everyone fed and watered by 630..
Left hour 650 and trail dd2 to b+m

We are hunting stuff for the house, some of which we can't find/need look at rather than shop online so planned military precision trip as follows
B+m(3miles)
Home bargains
Savers
The range
We then walked different Aldi
Which included a walk along the river.
On the way back we cross 2parksand that tally doesn't include wandering round the actual shops....

We got back 11.50,so exactly 5hpirs.my hips are saying was further.my shoulders, neck and arms are complaining about weight stuff carried

Amongst other things we got-
Dino fairy lights D's room
Stationery for the girls
Stationery storage( for D's soon to be boughtdesk)
Notebooks for all
Decorative stones for D's room
New tangled toys for dd2
Some decorative bits for the girls room
Fake flowers
Cheapbag cat kibble

Aldi we got iced buns as a treat and I also acquired a fruit fly trapper in n the what the fuck aisles...they are bain my bloody existence.hope it works!!

LaneBoy · 21/07/2020 12:59

I have done absolutely nothing today. We had the NHS people here - stair rail looks pretty decent actually, he recommended varnishing it so I want to get that done fairly soon. Always feel a bit weird when we have big changes like that though (they’ve done stuff in both bathrooms too) so I’m a bit unsettled TBH! DD1 is off to a friend’s once she’s tidied her room and taken the bins out (there’s a bit more room in the recycling one so maybe I can gather some more to fill it by bedtime?). DH’s other meds need collecting and he’s really not up to going so I might go instead - I don’t relish the idea so much today as yesterday really wore me out but at least it gets me out of the house. Must not spend too much 😳😳😳
