Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

Meg I agree stressy plus MN of full lying smug cowsremember the infamous MN chicken that feeds family 4a week?your life is real and full on and that's why you constantly feel like on back foot.as for calorie thing there must be an exact balance where when you are perfect weight energy is boundless and either side of that is exhaustion.but perfect weight is kinda mythical.basically we are all fooked...
Ed glad cats doing ok
KT hope today's better
Lisette week at wasp nest
Lane hope you feel less out if sorts today
Princes we all have days want crawl back to bed lovelyFlowers

AWOL congratulations on your stellar results 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Opens celebratory naughty corner with bunting and champers.

Our wasps' nest has been removed by pest control this morning. It wasn't that large but we tend to leave that sort of thing to the experts cause we are chickens

Lisette1940 · 14/07/2020 10:12

I remember reading about Nicola Horlick back in 1995 - she was seen as superwoman.

I don't think you can have it all. Something suffers somewhere even if it's not apparent on the surface. Mind you I do wonder if boarding school would cut down in all the school/kid admin that I seem to have to do during the school year - eyes son with lightbulb going on over my head. ( Too expensive for us 😂) Sorry I'm in the middle of ordering uniform and school shoes - it never ends. Well it's his last year of primary. Sob.

Not caught up yet but just saw about the results awol well done! Amazing!!! 🤩😍

Other than helping DS with chemistry and a bit of (social) email chat, I appear to have done fuck all. The morning got delayed a bit when tesco was late. So I’ll blame them and not my own CBA attitude!

Not helpful timing though when we have the social care people coming tomorrow for the stair rail etc - I think because I’m back to seeing “aaargh I need to do ALL THE TIDYING” it’s harder to break it down and I’m a bit overwhelmed not knowing where to start (compared to recent weeks where I’ve managed to just do little tasks here and there).

I’m struggling to even think of a PO3 now Confused but here goes:

PO3.1
❗️Take laundry out of dryer and add to other load, take it all upstairs and put away while watching an episode of BT
❗️Get a big mug of water and drink some
❗️Find scissors and cut up another couple of old kids’ magazines that I unearthed yesterday.

Perhaps not the most productive of lists but calming easy stuff to hopefully ease the anxiety Hmm while DH does some maths with DS, then it’ll be lunchtime (filled pasta and a pot of pesto) and hopefully I’ll have a bit more energy.

Right. Going to read an email and then off I go!

xmummy2princesx · 14/07/2020 16:52

I’m trying to go back 2 the weight I was b4 Sully. 6 months on and I’m a few pounds off I’m quite small and generally around 8stone but am 81/2 now. Not much 2 go. My hips and boobs have got bigger tho😂

awol fab list, fantastic results! Star

xmummy Sully is really getting into food, isn't he? Smile

tada

got up in time to exchange morning grunts with S2
s&s downstairs
lol, including S1's bedding
made bed
made up S1's bed, because I am a pushover nice like that
made stuffing and stuffed hearts, into slow cooker
suggested H picked the bolted chard, dealt with it
washed up breakfast, lunch and H's pizza sauce making
cooked dinner, including chard in such a way as it was quite nice

Yesterday I got a reply from someone with a non-public family tree, who reckons Hannah's mother is Amy, definitely a granddaughter of Thomas and Martha, whom I had discounted because she died young, without considering that "young" is 20...

I now have a similar problem in that while I'm fairly certain Amy is John's daughter (the others are too young) I can't find a birth record for her or a marriage for him. I suspect she was probably baptised under her mother's surname...

KTCluck · 14/07/2020 21:38

It’s been quiet on here today, everyone must have been very motivated and avoiding MN.

Work was much better today thanks everyone. Still busy but I was completely caught up when I left.

I have no ta Das to add other than sticking the washing in the dryer when I get home. Off to the naughty corner for some of that champers, thanks Lisette. I would also definitely have got professionals in for a wasps nest!

What gorgeous boys Princes.

That PO3 list seems sensible Lane

Meg I don’t believe you can have it all either, something has to give. Theres been the odd day where I’ve felt like I’m on top of things, organised, in control, house tidy etc. Then I’ve realised poor DD has been watching peppa pig all afternoon and a glance in the mirror shows that I look like a bag lady, absolutely not like someone who can do it all Grin

Beach sounds lovely mummy.

Sorry you've had a shit day zoo. I have also had a shit day and a lot of family drama after someone (who I know and was concerned) came across some dodgy things on a Facebook profile of a family member of DH. I told DH he either removed him as a Facebook friend or removed pictures of the boys from his profile. He removed the relative and all hell broke loose.

Glad your day was better KT.

The family tree stuff sounds very complicated merry. I'm not sure I'd have the headspace for all of that.

So my plan for today was to do things in 3 like lane has been doing. I managed a grand total of 2 things before we started schoolwork 🤦‍♀️

Ta-da's (with boxing gloves because they suit my current mood)
🥊 made a fruit salad for boys breakfasts
🥊 rang doctors for copy of immunisation records which DH picked up for me on the way home from work.
🥊 sorted out medicine basket while hunting for ibuprofen as my foot is playing up again. (Have just realised I never actually took any though 🤦‍♀️)
🥊 schoolwork
🥊 made lunch for boys - tuna/ham sandwiches, cheese, carrot, cucumber, melon, yogurt and popcorn. Made a tuna sandwich for myself
🥊 back to schoolwork
🥊 made bacon, mushroom and onion roly
Poly with sweet potato Rostis and gravy for dinner. Not sure it was worth nearly my whole day's calories. Also my new scales arrived and they weigh me 10lb heavier than my DGM scales so gutted!
🥊 checked what we had in for DS2 birthday next week and What we still needed.
🥊 nipped to Sainsbury's for a few bits and to fill car with diesel - except I took the wrong car so DH had to go back to do the diesel part. I had also meant to look at a couple of birthday things for DS2 but forgot that too. 🤦‍♀️🤣
🥊 looked at my filthy dirty house and decided a good dettol spray might not make it look any cleaner but at least I'd zap some germs and it would smell nice. So went on a dettol spree.
🥊 cleaned the smalls little table. Never did get round to doing the dining table 🤷‍♀️
🥊 picked up all the pens, pencils etc that somehow end up all over the LR every time the boys do any schoolwork
🥊 sharpened pencils for tomorrow so that's one less thing DS3 can piss about over
🥊went on a rubbish mission downstairs
🥊 sorted my bag and purse which DS4 had kindly emptied all over the floor
🥊 uploaded the DC work for their teachers
🥊 Filed a load of letters and sent an email I've been meaning to send for a while
🥊 printed off school stuff needed for over holidays. Just a chart thing they can log their reading on.
🥊 printed dog poo sign my neighbour asked for
🥊 Cleaned front of washer
🥊 LOL
🥊 emptied kitchen bin

DS2 has officially finished school until September 🎉. DS1 has a couple of PE things to do tomorrow and then he's done 🎉🎉 DS3 still has shit loads but at least if the others are done I can work 1-2-1 with him and we should get it finished sooner rather than later.

Ta-didn't
🎂 make chocolate cake which DS3 has not let me forget about. Must do tomorrow to keep him off my back. Actually I can hopefully encourage through his work with the promise of helping me make it.
🎂 any home blergh so that's on tomorrow's list. Also must seriously sort the laundry situation out. I have a mountain of washing and ironing everyone is having to raid the ironing pile for clean clothes every day.

👋 to everyone.

EasilyDelighted · 14/07/2020 22:39

Meg - didn't Wycombe do well? I watched both semis but only saw the end of the final. I support Portsmouth bu they went out in the other semis and if they couldn't win I wanted Wycombe to. Partly because I used to live there (in the glory days of the mid 90s, I saw them win the playoffs at the old Wembley stadium under Martin O'Neill). Partly also because their opponents in the semis had Ched Evans playing for them.

Awol - well done you Star

KCC - perfect day. Probably football, I go with my old school friends and family, pub beforehand, seeing our team win a vital match, or cup final. Or a get together with my extended family (there are about 45 of us).

Tada!

2xLOL (bloody cat pee'd on the bathmat again, wish I knew which one then I could have words)
Work
DBS check for volunteer role, took ages.
DInner
Took DS to football
Online shopping order - I have refrained so far as others need the slots more than us but it has turned into a real slog doing the whole week's worth at once and I'm tired of the queues.
Paid window cleaner
Made sourdough ready to bake in the morning

LittlemissAWOL · 14/07/2020 22:47

Oh I forgot my perfect day would be spent at home with DH and DC, crap weather outside so I didn't feel bad not leaving the house. Lie in. Nice bath, clean PJ's and a movie day with snacks and maybe a takeaway. No cleaning and the DC not fighting or arguing.....yeh that's never gonna happen 🤣

Not caught up yet, today has mostly been one of the unmotivated, burned out sort

ta da
😴home ed
😴put some laundry away
😴started watching celebrity masterchef with DD1 (making an effort at easy time together)
😴put a few token bits of toys away
😴found more info as I’ve decided on an eating plan of sorts
😴DID SOME DRAWING!!! Biggest achievement of the day - granted that’s not so difficult on a not much to ta da day like today, but still, given I’ve been in a bit of a rut I’m pleased I have dragged myself out of it! What’s more, I actually drew faces which I normally don’t attempt at all.

xmummy2princesx · 15/07/2020 00:37

merry he luvs his food. Logan was completely different he didn’t rly like anything he’s still fussy now but Sully is luving it. Hes a big boy tho so I think he likes that it rly fills him up. Hope the family tree searching is going well funnily enuf my mum has started doing ours and we’ve gone back to 1800 it’s rly interesting

Thank u KTC

awol wow u got a lot dun 2day!

It has kicked off here. NDN has had her window kicked in by a young lad who’s off his face on drugs called police but the street is full of every1 shouting boys have had 2 come in2 my room in the back as they’re on the front and the noise is 2 much.

HungryHazelEyes · 15/07/2020 05:59

Ugh! I just backed out of my post and lost it all! I'll have to update another time as I'm tired now, but wanted to say well done to AWOL on your distinctions and good luck to that although I'm sure your results will be good too.

I don't remember who all has been losing weight successfully other than lane but well done! It's hard to do and I keep finding myself off the wagon.

HungryHazelEyes · 15/07/2020 06:00

🍒👋 to everyone else and have a good day.

LaneBoy · 15/07/2020 07:15

Not sure I’d call it successfully atm hazel! It was going well before lockdown but now it’s up and down. Boredom = snacking for me!

I’m in a grumpy mood as up really late with DD1 who for the first time since going back to school in December actually said she didn’t want to go today 😱 having issues with her BFF and it seems to have knocked her confidence as she was acting like nobody there likes her. She’s been stressy and exhausted the last few days but I had no idea she wasn’t enjoying it lately - she had been so happy before 😰

Then Cagletini was awake and grumpy at 2.30 for a while, then 6 for a while. She’s only just back to sleep and I would like to follow suit but I’m going to just doze on the sofa for when DD1 gets up.

PO3.1 (for when I’m up properly)
❗️Clear stairs ready for work people 😳
❗️Clear bathroom - again 🙄 - and put shampoo etc on windowsill
❗️Watch some new (to me) Simpsons episodes when resting! 😂

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 15/07/2020 07:23

Morning all Brew

Lane sorry DD going through a rough patch at school, fingers crossed it passes soon

I slept badly. Just could not get comfy, kept waking with sore back / neck etc. Strange. Now i feel all stiff and achey.

Catching up on rest of thread!

KTCluck · 15/07/2020 08:37

I also couldn’t get comfy last night That possibly because DD was flat out on my legs I ended up in her bed in the end.

Lane hope school goes ok for DD once she’s there.

I have also been off the wagon Hazel. By some miracle haven’t gained, but I need to get my arse back into gear.

Anti-procrastination day again today. It might have to be the day I start claiming a tax rebate on a PPI refund I got 3 years ago Hmm.

launchpad

OP posts:
LittlemissAWOL · 15/07/2020 09:03

How odd KT the email I sent yesterday was an email regarding a tax rebate on a PPI claim my dad made!

I definitely did my anti-procrastination yesterday by sending that email and getting my immunisation records. So today I shall procrastinate to my hearts content.

I had no idea dogs could be blood donors 😱. That is something I have meant to do for so long and have just never gotten round to doing it.

Ta-da's so far
♦️got up early to do COVID tests on me and DS2. Not because we have symptoms or anything we just got asked to be part of the saliva test trial.
♥️ made DC cereal and watermelon for breakfast
♦️ dusted kitchen
♣️ swept and mopped kitchen floor
♠️ LOL

I think the rest of today will be dedicated to schoolwork with DS3 and washing and ironing to try and clear some of this backlog.
