Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

Zoo I had a feeling you had said before she was a young cat. Could you video her and send to the vet? Misty was jumping but not up in the air but if laid out it could be quite violent and would go on for a couple of seconds.

Haven’t done much today.
DD and partner on FaceTime call for over an hour. They look so well and happy. Really healthy looking. They have managed to renew visa (probably because no chance of flights home or even to Australia) and think they may stay another year, back to Australia and possibly Japan and somewhere else in Asia. 🙃mixed feelings.
Builder arrived during that. Completed work in bathroom so over to me and painting to finish. Did front door step, kitchen tiles and skirting board sealant. Back tomorrow to grout.

Back later DH just pulled up.

Bowerbird5 · 11/07/2020 19:03

Oh yum I was wondering if he would come back with anything for tea. He has bought steak. He went for nut milk and I suggested he bought a chicken to roast tomorrow. He said co op was reasonable and butchers was empty so grabbed a top up shop. This will mean he won’t go on Monday so some things will still be missing. He did manage to get brown sugar which has been absent since April. It is just a small village co op so that was good.

We went to local garden centre to try to get some more nemesia but alas none. Bought two potentilla, a fuschia, two petunias and two herbs Greek basil and lemon thyme as mine had died over winter. Also a Hazel obelisk for clematis.

Tidied the summer house
Lolx2
S&S
Back later.

LaneBoy · 11/07/2020 19:52

Motivation has definitely waned!
Time for PO3 #3
❗️Move laundry on again - might put another LOL on too but either way need to dry the bedsheet
❗️Finish book
❗️Declutter some stuff from top of microwave in my last nod to zone 2

Bowerbird5 · 11/07/2020 20:34

I agree Lane on the red wine now.

Steak was lovely and DH said perfectly cooked he likes his med rare but to the rare end whereas I like mine medium rare more to the medium. I cracked it!

Lane I have lots of GCSE books and CDs and I was going to take them to the charity shop( hospice ) but wondered if people decide not to send their children back to school and chose to home school whether they would be of any use. I should have got rid of them sooner but they might be out of date but still a useful guide to people who have never home schooled before. So... how would I find out if there is a group here?

Going to chose paint tomorrow and hopefully go to trade shop on Monday morning.
Hope to do a little paint project tomorrow. Something I would enjoy and not a chore.
I have given up today as we have the sitting room turned upside down and most furniture in the middle of the room until builder comes tomorrow morning. I did give it a good vacuum.

LaneBoy · 11/07/2020 20:38

Hmm I think bower probably the best bet would be to get someone to ask on fb locally? Someone may want them. Although it all seems to change so fast now with the different exam boards and stuff.

I’ve been lamenting the lack of glass chopping board lately as the fancy folding ones I got when we moved haven’t really stood the test of time (under two years).

I’ve cleared off the top of the microwave just now.

I found the glass chopping board.

😳😂

Just having a rest and then I’ll clean the microwave (the top bit. CBA with the inside.)

MrsTidyHouse · 11/07/2020 20:43

DH was able to come home and fix someof the plumbing this week, and we finally got running water on Thursday. I've been filling buckets from the garden tap since the first week of lockdown. Very lucky to have that tap!

So today I tackled the backlog of dishes in the kitchen, straightened out the fridge-freezers and brought some stuff in from the garage. Kinda lost heart as far as the kitchen is concerned, apart from doing the absolute minimum.

Now I'm in my sunny bedroom, listening to opera and writing tomorrow's to-do list, and trying not to dissolve into tears.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/07/2020 20:56

Tada
Hour n half over local reserve soothing dd2 by her walking barefoot.i am absolutely zonked!

Lisette1940 · 11/07/2020 21:26

Thinking of making millionaires shortbread with Ds merry. It's just delicious.

Got another run in today and quietish around the house today.

KTCluck · 11/07/2020 21:41

Right, I’m up to date.

Flowers Tidy, hope the opera and sunshine help. It must be such a relief to have running water again.

Looks like PO3 has worked well today Lane. You’ve been productive too Merry and That. Frustrating about lack of info from the schools.

Foxes I also have no idea why I bother tidying. We were out most of the day with the living room immaculate when we left, and then it was carnage within 10 minutes of being home. I’d say I properly shine my sink 1-2 nights a week, do a less thorough job another couple of nights and leave the lot for the morning the rest of the time, so you definitely aren’t alone in the kitchen front. I always feel so much better coming down to a clean kitchen but still don’t learn.

Princes bet you loved your lie in!

Hazel we are in luck. I’ve just employed Tom Hardy to man the naughty corner bar. He starts tonight Grin.

Hope you’re enjoying being with DHorse SC. Waves to Meg, Lisette, Expletive, Chic, Awol and Stressy

Just realised I forgot KCC this morning. It’s a bit of a rubbish photo, but cute ducklings were my little bit of happiness today along with lunch in a beer garden

Not many ta das to add:
✅ defrosted legs
✅ another LOL (had to, slopped tea all down my new white dress)
✅ tidied living room again
✅ DW set off (ignored sink full of hand wash bits)
✅ managed some me-time earlier with DH and DD out for a walk with PIL - started unsolved mysteries on Netflix.

Evening all,

Cat trouble for us today too, I was brushing one of ours when I noticed a scratch on her face, picked her up to investigate and found a big lump under her jaw. Most likely an abscess and she's fine in herself and eating but will likely need a vet visit on Monday - I called OOH for reassurance. I haven't got any suggestions about yours I'm afraid Zoo.

Tada!

Baked sourdough bread
Hoovered most of the house
Swept and mopped kitchen floor
S&S
3xLOL
Weeding and watering both garden and allotment
Had a chat with a friend on the way to the allotment
DS cooked dinner

Had a nice evening with DD watching Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat on youtube with us both singing along and dancing for the finale. DS not impressed Grin.

HungryHazelEyes · 12/07/2020 07:46

Enjoyed my day off (Saturday)! Didn't get as much done as I hoped though.

Ta Das:

🌡 Checked my schedule at my 2nd job for next week, then went shopping there and spent almost as much as I earned the last 2 weeks (at that job) 🤦‍♀️.
🌡 Went to the grocery store to pick up a few things needed for dinner tonight.

🌡 Had lunch.

🌡 Worked on my garden, trimmed my rose bushes (hacked at them more like) so they are looking much better now, hopefully they won't die on me though from shock.

🌡 Pulled some weeds as well, then swept the path on the side of my house.

🌡S&S.

🌡 Got dinner prepped and cooked, took longer than I expected but everyone seemed okay with that and snacked on the fruit DD had prepared. She did help me with dinner tonight so that was a good thing.

🌡 Got in our pool after dinner! It was 9pm at that point but our thermometer said it was still 85°f - according to that it got up to 101°f today - whilst I was outside working on the weeds and rose bushes, it was so hot.

I had a glass of bailey's tonight, after the pool. ILs came over for dinner tonight, including SIL. It was a lovely day. I didn't even get up until gone 10am, I don't like sleeping past 8am on the weekends, but it was what I needed apparently.

I'm not sure what we're doing tomorrow, but I am looking forward to a 2nd day off.

Haven't caught up with the thread yet, but will eventually. I'm falling asleep now so that will have to wait, sorry. I did notice ED came back on though, good to see you. I'll have to get back on here in the morning to catch up. 👋 to you all!

KTCluck · 12/07/2020 09:03

Hope you all had a decent sleep last night. I did and I’m feeling refreshed

KCC - cute pup pictures

Ta da:
✅ last nights dishes washed
✅ benches wiped
✅ breakfast for me and DD (DH was up briefly, emptied the bins and has fallen back to sleep)
✅ s & s downstairs
✅ ham in slow cooker

To do:
📌 LOL and hang last nights out
📌 make beds
📌 upstairs s & s
📌 sweep kitchen (rice everywhere Hmm)
📌 huge pile of clean laundry away
📌 ironing
📌 walk up to DGM’s to chat at her back door
📌 family phonecall
📌 weeding front and back
📌 usual Sunday night clothes/bag/food prep

Planning a few hours relaxing in the garden as it looks like a lovely day (in the spirit of renewing the spirit). DH will be sorting Sunday lunch although I’ll do the Yorkshire puddings.

Hope poorly kitties are on the mend Zoo and ED

Lane last nights ta da list was very impressive!

Hazel sounds like a good shopping spree! Glad you had a lovely day yesterday.

LaneBoy · 12/07/2020 10:37

Just caught up. MrsTidy I hope your list for today isn’t too awful and that you feel better. Crying can help a lot, I find. We are here if you need a vent. 💜

Cute puppy 😍

🚚 that’s the delivery truck backing up ready to unload tons of snackage to the naughty corner

Sleepy as didn’t get to sleep till the small hours and woke up for the second time at 8. Have put the washing on and finished my book (I must be careful when using the PO3 not to avoid doing something until I write the next three items, IYSWIM!) but now I do need a list. Haven’t decided what to do as my extra room for this week’s zone, as the caglets do their own (and I CBA to go through their clothes etc this week). We don’t have extra rooms really! And the bathrooms don’t have much we can really do at the moment. I might choose the the dryer cupboard (under the stairs) and the hallway upstairs which is where almost all the toys are kept.

I will still do a bit in the bathrooms as they could use a tidy up and better clean. This week just doing a bit of decluttering in the kitchen when I could seemed to give DH a nudge and he did loads in there so maybe the same technique will work in the bathroom :o it’s dingy anyway, and not decorated, but there’s no point yet because we may be having adaptations put in by adult social care once they’ve done the stair rail. So I’d rather wait until that’s decided in case they have to rip stuff out.

Anyway, PO3.1
❗️Finally finish filling the skittles for toddler and decide what to do with the spare lentils
❗️A little planning for LAST WEEK OF HOME ED wooooo!!!
❗️“Brain training” apps (I don’t normally put this on my ta da lists because it’s just fun puzzly games but I haven’t made time for it this week so it can be my first “something for me”

Argh DD1 cracked her tooth 😳😫 it’s a baby tooth (she’s just turned 13 but hasn’t lost many molars yet) but I’m assuming they’d still want to remove it wouldn’t they? She’s overdue a dentist trip for sure 🤦‍♀️

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 12/07/2020 10:40

If its not causing her issues they may leave it? Or temp filling it?

LaneBoy · 12/07/2020 14:47

Afternoon all. I’ve had a lazy morning physically but got loads of planning done including some bits I was really procrastinating over (for no good reason, but such is the nature of procrastination, right?).

PO3.2
❗️Design the word of the day summary activities for next week (on paper as I need a break from screens)
❗️Spend time on my own upstairs watching Better Things and NOT trying to do anything productive at the same time!
❗️Put a few bits out for recycling

BTW the coleslaw was good, DH also added yesterday’s leftover salad and an avocado too. I did avoid the massive onion bits though :o
