Fledglings prepare to fly their lockdown nests and jump into July - join us for the July FlyLady thread

Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

:)

Doorstep chat done - stopped raining before and then started after - divine intervention? :o Really nice to catch up anyway. :) And I managed to do one of the four remaining sections of the FL course and shower and change before.

DS has done a reasonable amount of work too, well on track to be done long before 3pm without stress. So it should be easy to get more of mine done too. DD1 needs to do maths though as we’ve neglected it this week.

EasilyDelighted · 08/07/2020 12:01

Morning all, apologies for absence, the thread just got away from me. I will attempt to catch up.

In decluttering news, I have deleted approx 16000 emails in the last 24 hours. About the same amount left to sort through. It's addictive once you start.

LaneBoy · 08/07/2020 12:17

Wow fantastic digital decluttering there ED!

Oh man I’m hungry. I’m glad I opted for some easy lunches this week, will crack back on with stuff after food!!!

Feel better after lunch but still a bit antsy due to trying to get used to MFP app. I want to give it a good go though - if not for the data (I’m not actually bothered about calories per se, as I tend to lose just by generally reducing carbs) then for the reminder to actually think of what I’m eating!

Love the naughty kitty from yesterday’s KCC. For today - one random memory that makes me giggle still, is from when I was maybe 13 and at a friend’s house. Her dad was really straight laced, a bit of a grump and an imposing sort of figure IYSWIM, although clearly nice with it. Anyway, I was just on my way back outside to join my friend, and I heard him in his office, randomly exclaiming in an angry voice “oh... KNICKERS!!!” - it was so completely out of context and character that it was very memorable :o

One more episode of Lego ninjago < yay 😑> then I guess we will get back on with stuff. I’m quite sleepy but at least I got a decent night in - more than 8 hours overall I think.

foxessocks · 08/07/2020 13:21

Hi everyone! Just checking in quickly, have got completely lost with the thread again sorry, things have been a bit hectic!

LaneBoy · 08/07/2020 13:33

Hiya foxes it seems a lot of us are getting hectic lives as lockdown eases, it’s bizarre!

I on the other hand seem to retreat more into Mumsnet at such times 😳

Bower yay for bathroom floor!

SC that is so frustrating about the invoices - they should expect not to get any new work before they’ve paid for the previous lot 🤬🤬🤬 is it possible to tighten up policies on this going forward so they can’t take the piss? Maybe they’ve caught the twattyvirus too.

Someone use the pointy stick please? I haven’t moved 😳😳😳

xmummy2princesx · 08/07/2020 13:52

Announcement:
I have moved.
DS has done his timeline. Somewhat regretting having so many people from da Vinci onwards and only one before that (Nero) - definitely need some older person of the week subjects next year :o DH supervised Cagletini sticking more of those magazine pics so that kept her busy and used up stuff yay

Just on to a final edit of his story now, so he can print and illustrate next week :o

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/07/2020 15:09

SC completely understand your frustration
Ed outstanding digital decluttering
That are you out laying last slab of new patio by chance?
Lane glad the chat went well

Shop done,sorted and put away
With varying distractions in between including D's confusion of schooling,dd2 panicking,a snotty call from sleep solutions ending in winding up our case as "you aren't commited" no I'm not if it involves me having to give up my precious 3hours j get a night sleep to watch what time DS nods off...

foxessocks · 08/07/2020 15:30

I'm back to try and catch up a little more!

Well done for moving lane Grin I have also moved from the sofa to my bed (to escape the noisy children but they followed me anyway!) Trying to have a cup of tea in peace before I need to start cooking dinner. Feeling very tired this afternoon so am trying to take it a little easy.

Work is so busy and usually I catch up on housework on a weds morning but I had the orthodontist today and annoyingly there was an issue which meant I got home and then had to go back again 😣

Ta das
Orthodontist
Put heaps of washing away
One wash on and hung up
Dishwasher on X 2
Tidied dd bedroom
Took some rubbish round to bins
Picked up parcel from Argos

Next will have a shower then cook dinner which is some leftover roast beef which I'm going to do in a sort of bean stew I think. I have lots of turnips again 😆

Hope everybody doing ok and sorry if I've missed anything very important but I scrolling back is tricky on my phone!

squanderedcore · 08/07/2020 16:00

Great lists everyone! 💪

I have just finished work (late) although dh is still on a long call and likely to be for an hour or so more. I am meant to be cleaning in boudoir now but really cba. Tech probs and chasing bills has made me grumpy today. I hate having to constantly follow it all up, such a waste of time, but necessary. May just start with 15 mins. Supermarket delivery was late this morning and so didn't start tonight's curry early as I would normally do so need to put that on too or identify ping supper. Woukd ask dd but she is grumpy/in foul mood too and I can't face the long sighs and the mutterings... .

They sound very rude Zoo Shock doesnt sound if they are very committed to helping you by the sounds of it. I think you may be able to hire/borrow some sort of techie bracelet thing from gp which allows you to detect a person's sleep patterns as dh wore one once for sleep/heart study thing. May be worth a shot?

Duh! Finally remembered what was in lost post/what I came on to say originallly now my brain is functioning after coffee Grin...KTCluck you are doing sterling work thread-leading so please never doubt it! Flowers

Take it very steady Foxes and Mummy (if remotely poss with the little 'uns!)

Glad meet up went ok Lane! We dont have much choice but to accept work before they have paid last bill because its often an ongoing situation ifyswim in which third party ajudicating over which we have little control...gah!

Well done re: getting rid of all those e-mails Easilydelighted its such a chore!

Awol like the sound of your ma and her sending your stepdad's clothes to the pub!

Have a good evening everyone! Gin may be implicated tonight!

Zoo does anybody in the house have a Fitbit he could wear for bed as that will monitor his sleep but allow you to sleep at the same time. I'm obsessed with seeing how much sleep I've had it's the first thing I check every morning. Couldn't give a shit how many steps I've done 🤣

Not many ta-da's today as back to schoolwork
⭐️ made DC cream cheese bagels, blueberries and glass of milk for breakfast
⭐️ schoolwork
⭐️ took DS2 to opticians - turns out he needs reading glasses. DH was adamant he was pulling my leg about headaches, not being able to read his work properly, loosing his place when he was reading but I felt there was an issue
⭐️ Went to collect script for my DGM. It was wrong so she sent me back but told me to detour via greggs to get the DC some lunch
⭐️ more schoolwork
⭐️ made cheese twists

We're going to get a takeaway and watch a film tonight but DS3 has been awful all day today so I've just made him a ham and cucumber sandwich, crisps, cheesestring, yogurt, blueberries and banana and told him when he's eaten that he's going in the bath and to bed. Except he's just come to say sorry and now he's giving me sad eyes and I'm too bloody soft 😖 so he'll probably stay up too.

LittlemissAWOL · 08/07/2020 17:01

Oh I forgot my funny story. You'll all think I'm awful but it was a proper you've been framed moment. So DS3 was about 2.5. He was standing on the wheelie bins and jumping into DH arms over and over, he was loving it. A few days later I was reversing onto the drive so DH lifted him onto the bins so he was safely out of the way. Except he thought they were playing the game again. All I saw in the rear view mirror was this streak as he flung himself off the bin straight past an unsuspecting DH. Obviously I went dashing out to make sure he was ok but when we realised he was fine we were both dying laughing.

This was about 3 years ago and we still can't help but laugh about it. He can't remember so obviously wasn't too traumatised 🙈

Holy crap my brain is FRIED. Just had well over an hour talking DSD through her new study and career plan which seems rather ironic when I have neither of those myself 😳 but I’m so glad she values my opinion and seeks my support with this stuff as well as DH’s 😊

I am mentally zonked though! Going to try a bit on the exercise bike to wake myself up before dinner. And earn extra calories 😅

LaneBoy · 08/07/2020 17:56

Bugger. I thought MFP also worked out calories from exercise for you so I didn’t reset the screen on the bike. Off to google it is then.

I don’t have a Fitbit or anything like that, so how would I work it out for my workout etc?

LaneBoy · 08/07/2020 18:04

Found a cycling calculator at least. Even took my (epic) weight into account 😂
