Welcome all fledglings, newbies and lurkers to the July 2020 flylady thread, where we try and follow flylady’s system to keep our homes in order and our lives organised. We are a friendly bunch and like a bit of a natter, amongst posting our ‘To Do’ lists for accountability and celebrating our ‘Ta Da’ lists no matter how long or short. No fledgling is left behind, just jump in and join us wherever you are at - whether you are a lazy slattern living in chaos or a fully certified domestic goddess wanting to keep up the motivation. Most of us flit between the two depending on the day. The threads tends to be a supportive corner of MN, and we readily provide listening ears for woes and rants when needed.

Flylady is a system based around morning and evening routines, with babysteps to get you started and a daily focus, such as planning and family fun day. There’s a weekly home blessing (or ‘bleurgh’ as we prefer) which is a basic clean to keep the house ticking over, with short bursts of decluttering or deeper cleaning in weekly zones once you are ready. Flylady also suggests short missions each day. Feel free to adapt the system to make it fit in with your life.

Link to the launchpad is here (I hope) and the baby steps are here. From the launchpad I like the ‘flight plan’ for a reminder of the routines, and ‘sneak peek of the week’ for a list of the week‘a missions. You can sign up for emails, but be warned, you will need to regularly declutter your inbox!

As thread leader for July I have taken possession of the thread pointy stick —> for anyone in need of a sharp prod of motivation, but I’ve also set up a chilled quiet naughty corner, complete with comfortable day beds, a gentle sea breeze, and unlimited fruit platters, ice creams and cocktails to any fledgling who is in need of rest and recuperation or is just on strike. No partners or children allowed.

I’ll also try and keep the ‘keep calm corner’ (KCC) going. Originally introduced by our lovely SC, it’s a little daily dose of respite we’ve been using to help us get through these strange times.

I’ll do my best to keep us all motivated and flying throughout July. On work days I may appear with the larks, or not crawl in until the end of the day so apologies in advance if I’m late with links.

We start tomorrow in zone 1 (hall, porch, dining room). Here’s the missions. Habit of the month is ‘swish and swipe’ which is a daily 2 minute wipe of our toilets and sinks. Tomorrow is anti-procrastination day where we tackle those tasks we’ve been putting off.

Anyway, enough waffle, July we are coming for you! shortly, I’m just checking the naughty corner is ready

Thanks so much to Meg for running June’s thread x 2, keeping us all in check even while without WiFi in the middle of it all Flowers.

. Thank you KT and thank you to Meg for a splendid double thread in June.

KinkyDoritowithsparkleson · 30/06/2020 22:00

Joining and just catching up with the end of June. How is it July already?!

Stuff I have to do = at least 1 million things.
Time I have to do it all = nowhere near enough.

I am leaving June with a shiny sink though so that is progress.

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/06/2020 22:05

Placemarking Smile. Awesome introduction KT. Thanks for the new thread Flowers. Big thanks again to Meg for last month.

Lisette1940 · 30/06/2020 22:08

Thank you for this magnificent thread KT and for the rousing introduction to July. I am truly delighted with the (double strength) Margarita you have supplied to the naughty corner and am toasting Margarita Pracatan (RIP) with fruit piled on my headdress. Meg - what a splendiferous June thread. Thank you so much.

Lisette1940 · 30/06/2020 22:09

Shiny sink is the way to go Kinky - if you do nothing else just do that!

KTCluck · 30/06/2020 22:09

It’s about progress not perfection Kinky (is that a fly lady phrase? Someone else? Have I made it up?)

EasilyDelighted · 30/06/2020 22:30

"You are never behind* is the phrase that springs to my mind. A shiny sink is good. A halved filing pile is also good.

Lisette1940 · 30/06/2020 22:35

Great thread title KT

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/06/2020 22:35

Progress not perfection is indeed a Flylady phrase. One of her good ones I think Smile.

ChicCroissant · 30/06/2020 22:47

Just booking my place on the July thread, thanks for June meg and thanks for taking on July KT

Better go and clean the kitchen to start July off on the right foot.

winepls · 30/06/2020 22:51

Hello all! Sorry I've been AWOL for a week or two, got busy and had trouble keeping up with the threads 😅

Thank you Meg for June's threads (even though I never appeared on the 2nd one). You did an amazing job, even with patchy internet.

Thank you KT for doing July thread, I'm sure you'll do a great job!

Have been struggling with flying lately, just barely doing the basics, some days better than others. This last weekend we went camping, I'll attach a couple of pictures if I remember.

Today we had appointments for DC for their eyes, new glasses for both and contacts for DD. This afternoon was spent washing LOLs x2 (will be one more if possible) as the dog has been throwing up (not sure why) and threw up on DDs bedding last night, and her bed in her kennel while we were gone.

Welcome to the newbies, there's a few of you so sorry I'm not mentioning names (my memory is crap)

Sorry to hear some of you are LYS, but that's totally acceptable at times. In July I'll try to be better at getting on here as it does help to motivate me and I miss the chat!

Morning everyone

Hope you all slept well and you’re ready to start again in zone 1, with 15 minutes decluttering or detail cleaning (for newbies: only do this part once you’re decluttered, and you don’t need to do every thing on that list in the week, just what you can, and then choose other bits next month - don’t be overwhelmed!) and today’s mission

My hotspot is the hall unit which currently has a precarious mountain of crap balancing on top, as well as the dining table which seems to be DH’s dumping spot might just dump it on his side of the bed

I’m hoping to manage a run and a trip to the shop in amongst my morning routine today, to be out the house for 9am complete with fed and dressed toddler. So early start for me. If I can get any of the weekly home bleurgh done upstairs before we go I’ll be happy too (I split mine into 2 days). That may be a tad ambitious however.

I can’t actually think of a thing for anti-procrastination day. Well I can think of lots but I’ll be putting it all off to a less busy day Grin. As it’s a new month I’ll be doing my monthly planning tonight instead.

KCC - I thought this month I’d stock the KCC with little snippets of happiness and positive stories as I’m sure we are all sick of the current doom and gloom. <a class="break-all" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-53234512?intlink_from_url=www.bbc.co.uk/news/topics/clm1wxp533pt/animals&link_location=live-reporting-story" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">This caught my eye last night and made me smile. Hope none of your new hens prove this adventurous Bower!

Sorry to hear you’re struggling a bit at the minute Hazel but it’s ok just to do the basics. especially when you’ve been on a camping trip. Love the photos.

🍒 Waves to ED, Too, Chic, Lisette, Kinky, Princes, Winepls and to Bower, Zoo, Lane, Meg, That, SC, Awol, Merry, Foxes, Tidy, Dancing, Fluff, cineraria who I hope all join us soon. Massive apologies if I’ve missed anyone!

Right I’m going to see if i can doze back off for half an hour before getting going. See you all soon!

Before I go to bed tonight I just wanted to add a couple more ta das (even though I don't think I accomplished much earlier today):

🌻 3rd LOL in dryer.

🌻 Kitchen cleared up from dinner.

🌻 Microwave wiped out (had butter splatter in there from popcorn last night, DH must have seen it at lunch time, but left it for me to clean up 🤬)

🌻 Scrubbed grill rack we used last night to BBQ chicken wings.

🌻 Wiped down Keurig.

To Dos still:

😭 Make DDs bed after washing her bedding.

😭 Get outfit out for tomorrow and possibly have to iron something.

😭 Start DW (has already been rotated)

😭 Shower.

Today is the kick off for fourth of July celebrations, none of us really wanted to go see fireworks tonight (I'm too tired and have to get up before 5:30am tomorrow) DS did say he wanted to go but doesn't seem too fussed he'll miss them. Oh well. It's almost 10pm here, best get off and work on my to do list!

HungryHazelEyes · 01/07/2020 05:08

Good morning KT I hope you're able to get more rest.

💕 I went into DDs room to make her bed, she's already done it! Yay!

👚 Outfit is pulled out for tomorrow, not my most favourite, but it saves me ironing tonight.

I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow (today for you all already) with less stress and lots of energy and motivation.

foxessocks · 01/07/2020 07:02

I'm here, thanks for the thread leading meg and KT Smile

Just another thing about time telling Stressy, DD is dyslexic and like Meg's DB I thought she might never get analogue time telling. However when we looked round her secondary school all the classrooms had analogue clocks and no phones allowed, DD didn't like wearing her digital watch in case it beeped. I remember putting it on the list of things she needed more help with for the SENCO. She got it eventually. One thing I did a few years earlier which helped was making sure we had analogue clock with a clear display (numbers not blanks or roman numerals) in both reception rooms of our house and a little one in her bedroom. So every time she asked what time it was I pointed to the clock and talked her through reading it. As I said yesterday, eventually it just clicked. I had read somewhere that many modern kids never really see analogue clocks at home as we tend to use phones, cooker displays etc more now.

Ducksurprise · 01/07/2020 08:09

waves I used to follow FL when she sent one email a day but left when it changed as it felt like a spam attack. Great to see this thread. I'm naturally slovenly but spent last month Trying Hard so this thread will be great, thanks for the great opening post.

squanderedcore · 01/07/2020 08:33
