Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

Baby step 23 is the afternoon routine here

Maybe Keeping calm isn't served by your pet peeve but it let's off steam!

ALL THE FUCKING PEOPLE WHO TAKE THEIR TROUSERS, SOCKS AND UNDERWEAR OFF IN ONE GO SO THEY ARE ALL ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER AND JUST DUMP IN THE WASH BASKET

Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 12:51

that thank you! adds another scenario to my list. Also not emptying pockets.

Lids not put on thread of jar properly.

OP posts:
LaneBoy · 23/05/2020 12:52

:o

Mine is small fry compared to the general state of the house but then I guess for it to be a pet peeve it has to be something that other people do and I don’t. So I can’t include things like “not putting stuff away” because, well 😳

One of the things to guarantee angry muttering from me is when the butter is put in the butter dish in the foil. Instead of taking a bit out and putting that in the dish. Always ends up all messy.

Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 12:53

Cups left at sink and not put in dishwasher < hard stare at my running coach>

OP posts:
Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 12:54

I put the butter in dish whilst still in foil sometimes

Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 12:55

I shouldn't Grin

OP posts:
Smartcasual · 23/05/2020 12:56

I hear you That and Lisette and I live with adults! (Well, one is nearly an adult!) Confused

However many times I have begged people to separate washing, recycle empty shower bottles and loo rolls themselves, bring down empty drinking bottles and mugs from upstairs, nothing ever changes and after many years of having to make countless separate trips up and down flights of 50 + stairs JUST to carry down the crap that other people just leave there ...so that my knee cartilage is shot ...despite instigating numerous different systems to try and make it part of everyone's routine ...NOTHING EVER CHANGES...aaarggghhhh!

I'm not sure I should join in with this one, as it is another opportunity for me to moan on but ...Grin...choosing just one new lock-down peeve ...

...it's dh trimming his beard straight in to the bathroom sink(s), especially after they have just been cleaned by me! S&S happens at roughly the same time every morning between 8.10 and 8.20 (earlier when not in lock down) and dh ruddy well trims his beard - in a hurry - at any time of the day ATM, depending on when he has a conference call. So I'm continually coming across sinks where beard trimmings are in sink, on floor beside sink, in hand soap beside sink, and the other day, it was in the bath too! Shock. It's like living with Chewbacca ...who is shedding ... .

Sorry to be always moaning on..but after 25 years of this sort of thing ..one doesn't feel so"fluffy" about it anymore ... .

Bugger ...I am turning in to my mother Hmm

Smartcasual · 23/05/2020 13:09

Oh YY Lisette ... putting plates by the side of the dw...I must have said, "there is no need to stack" about a thousand times ...and putting worn pants and socks on the floor by the side of the laundry basket...that's a particularly lovely one to greet you in the morning not

Angry
Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 13:10

My DH does that too SC . I've trained him to put something over the sink to catch the trimmings. In other words I've barked at him.

Smartcasual · 23/05/2020 13:11

Lane you have reminded me ..

...not putting butter back in fridge after you have used it so it tastes all sour

KTCluck · 23/05/2020 13:24

SC I know we’ve previously established that our DH’s are not one and the same, but I think we might need to check again. Was just about to say the stubble in the sink and round the sink is my pet hate. The general clutter that he creates, and the random dirty socks left in the middle of the living room floor or found under / down the sides of the sofa also make me want to scream. I usually spot them just as I’ve set of an LOL. DD seems to have inherited her dad’s liking of randomly removing her socks too Hmm.

Miss that cheesecake is amazing!

Hope injured DC are recovering well did and fluff

Bower, Meg, Lane and Zoo sorry you’re all feeling out of sorts and hope you’re being kind to yourselves.

Waves to That, expletive, Chic, Lisette, Foxes and Hazel

Very windy and dull day here today so we have no plans other than relaxing and playing in the house. I may have to go into work at some point this weekend but hopefully not.

Ta das:
✅ LOL
✅ beds made
✅ s & s x 2
✅ big shop bought and unpacked
✅ fridge tidied and wiped
✅ downstairs dusted, hoovered, floors mopped
✅ benches, hob, dining table wiped
✅ rough meal plan sorted with DH

I feel like my ta da list is repeated word for word at the minute. It’s like Groundhog Day. The house is under control currently but there has been little in the way of deeper cleaning, decluttering etc going on. I noticed this morning how badly it all needs a lick of paint, and we still have a big trip to the tip and the garden and pots to sort, with no motivation to do any of it. On the plus side I realised you can log housework as exercise on Noom. Apparently an hour of medium intensity cleaning is 300 calories burned! Therefore an extra 150 I can eat Grin

To do:
🐦 hallway tidied, hoovered and mopped.
🐦 stairs hoovered
🐦 do a freezer inventory. It’s packed and I have no idea what we have and keep buying more

foxessocks · 23/05/2020 13:49

My dh also does the beard trimming thing, he does clean it up afterwards but he always misses bits , I don't know why I can see those bits and he can't because he has perfect eyesight and I definitely don't!!

My pet peeve is probably tissues left in pockets in the laundry as well. Tissue explosions are not fun to deal with!

I'm doing a lot of sitting around today... want to get another bit of paperwork decluttering done , did a chunk yesterday and it wasn't as bad as I thought. But that doesn't mean I want to do more now Grin

foxessocks · 23/05/2020 13:52

KT I almost said that about socks!! My dh does the same...except for some reason only known to him he takes ONE sock off and leaves it in the living room, even more annoying!! My ds started taking his socks off around the house too so I've now decided not to bother putting socks on him at all 😂

LaneBoy · 23/05/2020 14:03

Just popping on (still mega behind on the thread) to tell anyone with young kids - if you have an iPad/iPhone, go to the Apple book store and search “jolly readers” as there are 93 😱 phonics reading books from the jolly phonics range free to download currently, in a range of levels. I downloaded the lot and put in a separate folder for when R is older 😅

DH and DD are about to make a dash for the shops - in between epic hail storms! There was lightning too. Please excuse the mess in the garden - somewhat regretting not bringing the duplo in... 😳😂

I’ve managed a bit more today but I’m definitely still a bit “meh”! I might try and do a bit of digital decluttering now as that doesn’t take much effort and I can still supervise the toddler.

Totally get you on the Groundhog Day kt - although I don’t really get it for housework as that would require doing more housework 😳😂 it’s more the daily grind of home ed I think. I was explaining how relieved I am it’s half term and DH didn’t really get it - that makes it sound bad, as really he doesn’t understand the amount of thinking and planning that goes into the HE. He does a lot of the implementing though. And the housework/cooking etc 🙈

Currently trying to persuade Cagletini that she needs more than a nappy on to go outside right now 🙄

didmyhousethismornin · 23/05/2020 15:35

Thank you for all the comments about DS’s head. He’s feel much better now. I did write out a huge reply but deleted it so will come bacj later and try again.

I haven’t done too much today, we did a zoom quiz for the kids. Which was lovely and now we’re just having a lazy day. Have a good day all!

Smartcasual · 23/05/2020 19:15

Glad to hear your ds is none the worse Didmyhouse and that you are having a better day today!

Hail in May is madness Lane! Good luck with the digital decluttering... .

Pssst KTCluck, Lisette and Foxes have a look at this beauty ...

.... here!

There truly is a product for everything ... Grin Grin

Smartcasual · 23/05/2020 19:16

And gosh, yes to the lick of paint KT so badly needed here too... .

Bowerbird5 · 23/05/2020 21:54

That
DS1 9months
DS2 10mths walking properly but took a few before that.
DS3 cruising around furniture at 6 1/2 months( I have a photo) walking at 8 mths
DD 10mths rode a bike without stabilisers about 2 1/2 talked quicker than the boys. DS 1 was a good talker and used big words at an early age. DS 2 spoke a couple of words then nothing until 21/2 and was due an investigation then came out with long sentences and complex words. DS 3 was slow at talking but was lipreading at 18 mths. Audiomatrician said in 25 years she had never seen a child so young lip read. She poo pooed it at first until we set up a demo. She also tested DDs hearing and thoroughly checked hers then told me she had the hearing of a dog at high frequency sounds. She would be able to hear those silent dog whistles which is why she panicked when RAF jets come over as she could hear them long before I could. DS3 still has slight hearing problem though he won’t admit it.
They all develop differently.
DS1 started crawling at about 1 1/2 when he saw a child at mum and toddlers🤣

Pet peeve
DH making tea leave the top off the canister every bloody time.
DH uses the last of the loo roll and puts the empty roll on the shelf. There’s a bin.
The beard trimming would really annoy me.

Ta Das - not many
LoL
Bed made
S&S
Cat and hens fed and medicated
Shopping done - we both left the list 🤪
Shopping wiped
Fridge cleaned, shopping put away.
20 mins in boudoir

Learnt how to wash paint brushes properly thank you YouTube

Been a bit lazy.

ta da
💠watched first episode of Little Fires Everywhere (I loved the book) before everyone woke up
💠messaged friend to find out some taekwondo info
💠persuaded DS to do second weekly tkd lesson for now
💠cleared living room space for lesson and set up on iPad as DH tablet died
💠put wash on
💠drew second page of picture quiz
💠took meds which is noteworthy because it means I’ve taken the right meds at the right time for a whole week 😅 #smug
💠downloaded free books
💠organised some PDFs on iBooks
💠organised a lot of apps and tried/deleted lots more (I am terrible for downloading games/educational apps and then never playing them)
💠almost finished the book I’ve supposedly been reading for an embarrassing number of months - too tired for final chapter
💠therapy write up plus some notes for next time
💠added some notes to the poem I’m writing
💠prodded the caglets into doing their chores
💠checked drying and switched it back on
