Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

Venting is essential Lane. Hope the scouting Zoom went well and how you juggle all the paperwork required for home edding organisation, while looking after a toddler I do not know; the two things must be v difficult to combine.

Your dd sounds v creative Foxes! And very prolific! Grin

I love Andy Goldsworthy Bower and sculpture parks in general.

Have a good evening everyone! It's film night here again ...Fridays come around again so quickly ... .

Smartcasual · 22/05/2020 20:36

X post Sorry you are feeling flat Megiddo hope tomorrow is not too difficult for you Flowers

In some ways similar situation here with dh and friends of 30 yrs+ . Had to Google Jordan Peterson Confused Crikey!

JigoloHarMegiddo · 22/05/2020 21:18

Thanks SC, you are always wise about these things.

It is now raining on my washing and I am getting in the bath until it all goes away!

(PS Jordan Peterson is a Poisonous Tool. Just sayin').

Lisette1940 · 22/05/2020 23:23

I love Goldsworthy too Bower. ♥️

Long day today but DH cooked a lovely steak dinner. I'm on a rest day from running but back with my little trainer tomorrow 🏃. It does seem to be helping my mood.

Goodnight fledglings. Glad you are liking the memes.

Well done on the decluttering lane. I find it hard to declutter without a charity shop to bring stuff to.

Sorry for my super late post, I have JUST got into bed. We’ve had a crap day, my toothache is still bad and I get really grouchy, I can usually deal with it but today the DC decided to argue with each other constantly. I’m not sure how a 3 year old and a 1 year old can dislike each other but they did today. So I ended up snapping and I feel awful now. Then on our walk I was trying to manoeuvre DS2’s buggy up a step and he fell head first and hit his head off the pavement and has a rather gruesome cut (pic attatched). He’s feeling fine now and is in bed with me just in case he gets bad in the night. So no house work was done as I spent it cuddling DS and watching films because I felt awful :(.

AWOL I’d hate that! I hate birds myself. I love the cake.

I’m glad to hear that DD is okay fluffy

I’m happy to hear Dcats leg is improving bower. I’m sorry you’re struggling with your anxiety, are you on any medication for it?.

Thank you sc! It is definitely clean underneath so I don’t have to worry about it for a while. I don’t mind mess, it’s dirt I don’t like. What a lovely visit from DD’s friend. I have done quite a bit of decluttering, except the kids room. I suppose I am a minimalist in some ways, so it was already quite decluttered but I’ve mainly been focusing on the bathroom as I have a lot of rubbish there.

Venting is the best thing to do when you feel that way lane, it’s such uncertain times and it is horrible. I wish we could have a clear cut plan of when everything will be normal. I hope DS’s scout meeting went well.

meg I’m sorry you’re feeling flat today. I hope the prosseco and game made you feel a bit better. Sorry about DH’s mates too, men like that annoy me to no end. I have an uncle like it, and I’ve found that no matter how much I argue he doesn’t listen. It’s very annoying!.

Right I am off to bed, goodnight all!.

AWOL That cheesecake looks divine!

bower I hope DDs cat gets better soon, sounds like she's going through the wars. I hope your anxiety settles down, or you can get some medication for it (if you don't already)

did I hope your DS' head heals soon.

zoo great list as always.

lane I hope you're able to adjust as lockdown lifts. Seems you're doing a great job already!

I only really remember my maternal grandad, he had a lovely bald head with a bit of a comb over and I loved to rub his head! He passed away just after my 12th birthday and was the last of my grandparents I loved him so much. My maternal Nana was mean, that's all I really remember of her, I was 7 when she passed. My paternal grandad died before my mum met my dad and my grandma died well before I came along.

My DC did the majority of their chores today after doing nothing yesterday, so my house is clean. The last couple of days I have been busy organising at work, there were several boxes of papers that needed to be gone through (my boss did that) she made a pile of everything that needed to be scanned and filed, so she had me work on that. We have almost got done with those boxes- but then there's a whole dungeon full of boxes to do the same. I'm actually really excited to tackle that.

HungryHazelEyes · 23/05/2020 04:36

DD has been wanting to paint her bedroom so I think we will get the paint for that tomorrow and get started on it. I'll have her check on the hamster situation as well so may go get that too. I also need to get her dresser refinished too, it's been a work in progress for many years- it used to be mine, I started stripping the paint off it when I was 16, so 20 years ago! Handles need to be replaced on it (I bought them 2 years ago). I'm a very big procrastinator 😳

I have a long 4 day weekend now, although Tuesday is full of appointments, tomorrow is pretty full now too, but could be spread out over a couple of days.

We went out for dinner tonight, the first time since lockdown. It was so nice! I'm very ready to get back to normal, or a new normal, whatever that may be.

Bowerbird5 · 23/05/2020 06:38

Jigolo what a lovely wedding present to get. It might be in it if not on his sight...the Japanese ice sculptures. One is like a bridge of ice.

If anyone is in Yorkshire or Cumbria there are quite a few including “ the pinfolds”

DCat had a good day. I massaged and felt all her leg and shoulder and she didn’t miaow once which she had the night before. So she must have jarred it getting down or fallen. She sat snuggled up against me while I watched tv. I stroked her for ages and when I stopped she was still purring.Eye still looks awful. The vet had said if she was younger they would remove it.

To those that asked ...yes I have been on medication since the incident. I hadn’t told my sister about it until yesterday I didn’t realise that deep seated pain is still affecting me. I started to get choked up telling her. I am realising I doubt if I can go back. I usually take the tablet at night as it makes me drowsy as it was given so I would get some sleep but I did take a small amount yesterday morning 5mg and it helped so I might take the other half today and for a few days. I also found out that some people with intolerances to food get an emotional response too. DH bought some soup which had milk in it. I haven’t told him I found out. I think it was just careless of him. This is why I don’t normally let him shop on his own. If he shops at all it is with me as he often doesn’t check the labels. I have a bad stomach this morning ...he cooked the tea unsupervised.🙄

didme ouch I bet you felt awful.
Awol I don’t mind birds luckily as I have had to rescue a few from the kitchen. We leave the back door open so sometimes they misjudge and fly in. We‘ve had robins, blue tits, sparrows and swallow fledglings as well as bats as we have bats in our loft. Which reminds me I haven’t seen any bats yet. Must have a look about 8pm. If you ever have to get a bird out if you use a towel and put it over them it is usually successful first go. I do get them in my hands mostly.
lane hope the scouts went well. Amazing when you think about it.
Hazel make sure a bit of the time is just for you.
SC I still haven’t been to the Henry Moore sculpture park. A must for the future. I should start a book on things to do when I retire.
Going to see if I can have a bit more kip I woke up with a grumbling tummy. Don’t think it bodes well for later. We were going to bigger village to get co op bread milk ahh I wonder if DH put cows milk in my tea🤔 I told him today and before ( about 50,000times) that I can tolerate it once but not much more than that. I didn’t notice as I had the cat and tea was high up I just swigged it as I could.

Bowerbird5 · 23/05/2020 06:39

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 23/05/2020 06:55

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 23/05/2020 07:01

littlemiss our school have said to use the Oxford Owl site too but dd is finding it hard, she struggles with reading and much better with an actual book. We have been reading some normal books but a big worried about her falling way behind by Sept (or later) I have signed up to Reading Chest where they send you books out in the post. Hopefully that will help. When i look on ORT website she is low down on the year 2 levels Sad My bigger two found reading much easier.

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 23/05/2020 07:03

LaneBoy · 23/05/2020 07:32

Yesterday’s ta da
🦋home ed
🦋phoned the bank which I’d been putting off for MONTHS!!! Reduced a standing order and downgraded my account saving well over £30 a month, finally. Although I think the biggest achievement is the fact I remembered my telephone banking passwords 🤣
🦋emailed counselling tutor to rearrange induction 😭 as DH finally has his psych appt which clashes, there’s no way we could manage both of us being on video calls at the same time and his is definitely more important and harder to rearrange!
🦋put some more stuff in the diary
🦋turned a crappy ready meal into a half decent lunch for me and toddler (salad counts right?)
🦋joined the haiku thread / enjoyed creativity / very relaxing! 😉
🦋read loads
🦋got DS to scout online meeting
🦋wrote a quiz in haiku 😅
🦋made notes for post half term home ed
🦋finally finished sorting my workouts. If only I got fit from just thinking about them, I’d be running marathons by now!

Fluffiest · 23/05/2020 08:37

that DD was walking around 9 months, but bizarrely she didn't crawl properly until she was 1. She hated being on her tummy and rarely rolled over. She just wanted to be upright all the time - did my back in!

Our day started at half 6 this morning. DD and I have baked some chocolate twists for breakfast using a sheet of puff pastry and nutella - not the most nutritious breakfast but tasty.

I'm actually feeling quite energised this morning so now that DH is awake I'm going to crack on with the housework.

Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 08:38

didmy sorry to hear about the toothache and the cut on DC. One of those days. Chortling here at the blursday term mentioned by zoo. Think it might need to find its way into the daily focus line up - as a term for when we go off the piste in flylady.

Congrats lane on getting in touch with the bank. I have a good memory but friggin passwords drive me mad!

That sounds yummy fluffiest. My ds didn't walk until 18 months. He's an observer by nature anyway and we probably kept handing him stuff anyway.

OP posts:
Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 08:43

I can't criticise ds and his late walking because he is now my running coach and I may pay for it later. God bless him, he's so caring towards the asphyxiated mass before him at the end of 20mins of walk/run.

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 23/05/2020 09:34

Thats funny lisette, i have zero motivation for actual exercise. I class running around after 5 dc as my exercise....

Ta da

💜 Bottles washed and sterilised
💚 All dc up fed and dressed
💛 Shopping slot for 2 weeks time booked
💙 Checked emails
❤ Looked online for answers re furlough after July in early years settings but found no answers

JigoloHarMegiddo · 23/05/2020 11:29

Morning all! Got up this morning to find the Kitchen Fairy hadn't been at all. I refuse to do it all myself, so cleared enough space to make coffee, put away anything I was responsible for and left it at that!

Apols for ranting last night. DH and I have agreed that his mates are being so very blinkered because they have not had the advantage of being married to me for 21 years 😂. It's a hard life, but DH lucked out there 😁.

That, none of mine walked early (in fact, DD didn't walk til 22 months!) but she was a very early talker (full sentences by her first birthday). I was very worried about DS2 who didn't crawl til 15 months and walked at 18, and didn't say anything until 2 weeks before his second birthday when he suddenly announced "want some boobar" (rhubarb).

My cousin's children all walked at 9 months (and, thinking about it, so did my brother) and as a consequence could ride bikes without stabilisers before they were 3!

Done oh, poor boy, you'll have to call him Harry Potter til it heals!

Ta das so far:
♥️ DW loading
🧡 Dog walked
💛 Finally got DH to tighten the bolts on the swing so DS3 can swing quietly!
💚 Roses deadheaded
💙 Ragged robin pulled out of flowerbeds
💜 Long grass trimmed round the swing etc
🖤 LOL
♥️ DS2's duvet aired outside because it smelled like teenage boy (and it's a good blowy day. Oh good grief, what have I become?)!
🧡 Yesterday's washing off the line before it gets wet again 😁
💛 Bedding in drier due to on-and-off rain
💚 Dry recycling into blue bin and cardboard into garage bins
💙 Chicken out of freezer for sweet and sour with rice for dinner
💜 Second coffee made (that was DH and I like him best of all my current husbands 😂💕)
🖤 Clean family bathroom loo 🤮. About to put a rocket up the DC about not knocking all the shampoos etc over and leaving them like that.

Will now sit down with coffee before I think about the rest of today.

JigoloHarMegiddo · 23/05/2020 11:30

Oops, sorry, not done, did. Apologies, I apparently have Lockdown Brain, like zoo 😁.

Lisette1940 · 23/05/2020 12:08

Inspired by Meggido Grin what is your pet peeve in terms of household scenarios? Mine is EMPTY bottles left in the shower. In fact empty anything that I pick up that hasn't been recycled. Free.

Family fun day and we are still in the boudoir.
