Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

Dd2 is snuggled under a blanket watching tv, she isn't coughing now but I'm glad I've kept her off because she obviously isn't 100%

Sistercharlie · 28/11/2019 11:33

Bloody hell. Deserve a medal for dithering this morning. So many priorities! Why can't I just ruddy well choose one task and get on with it calmly until it is finished? I am so sick of my own inability to focus. Even when I choose something, and start early, I get distracted or interrupted. Aarggghhhhhhhhhhh.

Sistercharlie · 28/11/2019 11:36

And yes, I know, opening laptop and going on Mumsnet is a terrific way of staying on course not Grin Grin

Waves to all

LivingInLaputa · 28/11/2019 17:53

You want some of my ADHD meds sc? Wink:o

(She says, as she is faffing on mumsnet halfway through writing in the diary...)

Playgroup was even better than normal, it got quiet really quickly (much as I am trying to be social and am making connections, some days I’m just not up to talking to new people!) and it also meant I had a really nice chat with our family support worker who runs it, not about anything particular it was just really nice.

I then had a swim and managed a little longer than I did on Monday so I’m happy to be getting closer to normal!

(Normal. Ha.)

If any of you are putting your Christmas tree up on December 1st, then zone 5 this week is probably a useful zone to clean (given many people put the tree up in the living room)

I love putting the tree up but taking it down is torture.

Sistercharlie · 28/11/2019 19:25

Oh and great ...it's Kirstie's sodding home made Christmas on the telly again. ...

I should have time to make garlands out of pom-poms... I really should ...

Confused
IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 28/11/2019 19:50

Only if you actually want to, SC. I've always thought the point of Flying was to free up time for stuff you want to do, by automating what you have to do. Also, I think I recall Flylady's Holiday Planning starting with working out what your Christmas should look like. Not Kirstie's (she makes me cross).

I have just about managed the routines today and kept the DC alive and fed. Saw DM, who needed some support. Got most of the maths homework done with DS. Got to Tesco for DD's meds. Got to the bank and the bookshop. Have now handed over to DH as Lead Parent and have retired to bed with a hot whiskey and ginger - for my throat, you know Wink !

Sistercharlie · 28/11/2019 20:12

Yes that's so true Willow!

I suppose I am organising my Christmas to everyone else's specifications, which is fine, as that's my "job", but it's making me anxious tbh , so I'm procrastinating/dithering.

You sound as though you did loads! Hope the whisky does the trick!

Bowerbird5 · 28/11/2019 21:06

Passes GIN it doesn't do the trick but if you drink enough of it you don't care. In my case three measures does the trick. I had the best night's sleep after acupuncture and three glasses of Gin and tonic. I am going to recommend it to my GP he will laugh but possibly tell me three is too many.

Also been procrastinating. I blame the recipes, found a pile of Christmas ones so took a while to sort and trim and organise in piles more gardening ones too. Did that finished washing the sofa cushions which came up a treat. Drying now. Three loads of other washing done.
Did a BRC from R of D. DH suggested I put the rest back and sort later but I wanted to finish it but now thinking I have had enough and want to go out, get cards, done etc. Wrote a letter to my cousin because I found an old one of hers talking her daughter who now has two girls. One who I know and love has recently been picked to a dance workshop with the Russian Ballet. I knew she was good but didn't know she was that good. Apologies if I mention this brain a bit foggy from a few weeks ago. I just think it is amazing it was for a week I think. There is a photo of her on FB and she has long legs and all grown up. it is about 9 years since I saw her. Mum's funeral.
Laputa well done for the swimming. I can't get myself out of the pool. DS2 goes to a small gym and pool but it is under refurbishment. It would be ideal because I have been a guest. There is a sauna and you can have a massage which he treated me to for my birthday once. Hot stone. MMMMmmmm.

LivingInLaputa · 29/11/2019 00:54

We have DD1’s friend round for a sleepover. Cue lots of giggles and squealing. Hmm

Decided to be brave and design my own Christmas cards. Just two :o for our family support worker and my therapist.

Going to the children’s centre to start applying for nursery places and two year funding for cagletini in the morning, someone offered to go through it all with me while the kids use the playroom, I’m not good enough at adulting at the moment (ever) to get it sorted at home so I’ve gratefully accepted the help!

Bowerbird5 · 29/11/2019 01:30

I used to love hearing the giggles and the big shh because they were supposed to be going to sleep.

I think that is a good idea you won’t be distracted by anything at home.

I am making my cards eventually. I have some stamps but I am considering a Christmas scene too as a Lino print.

I wrote two letters today. I rarely write letters now but polished two off for overseas. I feel quite good about that.

LivingInLaputa · 29/11/2019 01:46

Oooh I really want to try Lino printing again. I loved it at school. Also silk screen. I might make those some aims for next year!

Can’t sleep.

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/11/2019 06:15

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 29/11/2019 07:53

Omg i am full of a cold Sad

So i got up at 2am to feed the baby and took some cold and flu tablets which contain CAFFEINE. Absolute idiot. Took me til after 5 to get back to sleep

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 29/11/2019 08:06

I've the only cold and flu tabs without caffeine I've found are Beecham's branded ones. They cost a fortune compared to supermarket own brand, but they're the only thing I buy now after making the same mistake as you! So sorry you got no sleep, hope you feel better soon Flowers .

SC, that's a hell of a TaDa list for 8am! I'm still on the sofa with coffee and no voice - DS3 has no lessons today and DH has volunteered to walk WillowHound so I am allowing myself 30 minutes extra latitude. Need to conserve my voice for a phone call with an OT about DS3 this morning. Then I need to chase his diagnostic report - we're stymied without it in terms of moving forward, and the assessment was 6 weeks ago now.

ToDos for today

  • morning routine
  • phone call with OT
  • art homework with DS
  • science homework with DS
  • birthday lunch with dear friend
  • sorting study shelves
  • christmas wrapping - we're ahead on the buying this year and I'd like something done by 1 December.
  • meal planning and shopping list for tomorrow.

Have a good day, all!

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 29/11/2019 08:19

They were bloody Beechams ones Sad

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 29/11/2019 09:40

Urgh. Sorry! They do them without caffeine, but obviously they have to be hunted out!

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 29/11/2019 09:47

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/11/2019 10:12

Sistercharlie · 29/11/2019 17:41

Pass the gin Bower its Kirstles on the telly again, she's stringing cranberries this time Grin Hmm
