Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

In other news education psychologist rang to book in a visit next Wednesday, and I just had a call from ASD team offering us opportunity of a Saturday appointment for ADOS test(part 2 of 3 tests needed for diagnosis)downside it's in another town in our county.i may ask dd1 if she's free as she's way more reliable.

LivingInLaputa · 25/11/2019 17:35

Wow that’s taking flying visit to an extreme zoo

We had our school visit today. Feeling good I think. I showed the Senco some of the work DD has done and explained how I’d made the resources and helped her get each stage done etc (making the point that she needs a lot more scaffolding than others her age due to her difficulties)

She said “wow that’s amazing differentiation, you should be a special needs teacher” :o #smug

TooStressy my back does still hurt today although not as bad. I prefer Hazel, but will answer to Hungry lol.

zoo that is quite an impressive list!

willow those are absolutely worth counting, it all adds up. I really find the routines help, I've just started the shining my sink at night and getting my clothes ready for the next day. I've been doing that for a couple of weeks now and find it really helps. I am adding in more and more as I go. Starting last night I did some yoga (to help my back and almost got stuck on the floor when I couldn't get up -but we won't mention that- ) I really need to keep that up and start going back to the gym -that we are paying for and not been in months-

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 25/11/2019 19:39

Well done laputa Star

I have done not very much today. Well i went out shopping for food and some xmas bits. And ive been stalking games consoles prices online. But my house is a SHITHOLE! 💩

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/11/2019 19:49

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 25/11/2019 19:51

Oh, good news there, zoo and laputa! Hazel, good to hear your back is less sore.

Today has been ridiculously complicated and hard work because DS2 and DH both have the lurgy. I got to the dentist, have done some of the client work, surface cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher twice more, and have produced a healthy meal out of what we had, but I didn't get any of the reading or meal planning done and decluttering was a total fail

I'm trying not to shop til payday (Friday) but I think I will have to go out for green stuff and honey tomorrow, to soothe poorly throats.

Once DS3 is in bed (8.30), I shall run a bath and try to work out simple morning and evening routines. I have no idea what my evening routine used to be, it's fallen out of my head altogether, but I know I need to be going to sleep by 10. Hope I can manage it.

willow even leaving clothes ready for the morning is a big help. I always have my bag ready.

I have the dentist tomorrow. No work though. Have to tackle the ironing too.

Tonight we are just going to chill though...

Welcome Willow looks like you are juggling a huge number of plates there and doing it really well! Hope your ds2 and DH feel better soon!

Bravo Laputa 👍👍

Amazing list as ever Zoo and glad appts are coming through!

Hope back better soon Hazel

Toostressy you weren't being whingy at all; it is rotten when you bust a gut and no one notices or appreciates what you do. People only notice what I do here when I haven't done it ifyswim so I totally 'get' your frustration.

Back to headless chicken state here. Did declutter an entire bookcase (doing another tomorrow) and tried to focus on list of priorities but pretty impossible as other people have other ideas about what is most important!

Waves to everyone else. Must go to bed. Early start tomorrow.

Bowerbird5 · 26/11/2019 00:34

Welcome Willow. I looked at the morning routine and wrote down the bits that worked for me in a journal and did the same for night time. I don’t always do it. Especially the clothes one. I do it if I have a work meeting or something like that otherwise I just check the weather first.
We also so do the Power of Three on here. Post three things achieved. It really works on days when you really can’t be 🤦🏼‍♀️

So today I went to Garden Centre( me too Toostressy) and had a coffee black as they only had cow and soya and I can’t have either. Dobbies have cow, soya, oat and almond. I can have a latte there. I fancied soup or a bacon role but they didn’t have either and it was £8 for a bloody sandwich so I had coffee and DH had a panini and coffee. I did find a pair of cut off summer trousers for a £fiver. 😃had to buy them and reckon they might fit by summer because they were 14-16 so took the risk as I have lost some weight and some 16 have room in them.😇
Had a good mooch around. Bought a good friend a garden present. She has too much stuff in her house( like me) so bought her a lovely petrol plant pot and I bought four trays of purple pansies and one of deep red primulas so I will plant it up for her doorstep. I was tempted by a daft reindeer just to make her laugh as he had a plant in his back. I did nip to toilet and snuck downstairs but didn’t find anything worthwhile for Secret Santa.i had to be quick because of DH as he was near till. I then lost him for twenty minutes. I had a quick look at Christmas decks but will go back when they are a more realistic price. I fancied a bit of a swag for the kitchen but cheapest was £29.95 if they get down to a fiver I might buy some. I got a beauty last year free with my 🌲 but need two thinner ones for the top of cupboards. Eyes up 👀 holly in the church yard. It used to be that one vicar and his wife were happy to let everyone prune it at Christmas not so now.
Bought some frozen brambles but forgot to get apples outside shop when I found DH. Lovely man in village knocked on door tonight and gave me a bag of five big ones.i could have kissed him. So we had pheasant and all the trimmings and apple and blackberry crumble. I put oats in top so lovely and crunchy.
I sorted some more mags bits and nearly fell asleep watching a Christmas movie. DH fell asleep with the cat liking stretched out asleep on him 💤 so funny. Didn’t get my washing done as DH was doing his and it was on for ages. Told him off for putting towels on radiator. He has ruined my towels. All scratchy and horrible. I’ve told him loads of times line or drier. He keeps putting random stuff in the fruit bowl. A competition and two packets of crisps today. I have a very lovely and expensive fruit bowl 🍏🍎🍊🍋🍌🥑for ...you guessed it 🍈FRUIT !
It makes me bloody mad. He has been doing this for years. Twice this week. And he keeps leaving the top off the tea canister. He said I was stroppy today. He started telling me how to cook. NOT a good idea. He kept getting in the way. I had the chance of a day in Edinburgh tomorrow but I forgot that a letter for boob scan had come and I would have to cancel GP because I won’t be back in time. Plus because they didn’t let me know until last minute when they were booking and I missed deadline because I was out at appointment they got cheap tickets and mine would be £38 unless I go and sit by myself in first class £25 or I could go to breast screening early in hope I get in( BF did this once) and I could catch later train for £7:50 if it is still available. I don’t want to spend £38 plus £30for cough cough Senior Rail card. Plus a meal later. I was planning to grab a snack from street vendor for lunch. I don’t know what to do now. There are about 12 going from church. I can never go usually because I ‘m at work when they go. I don’t want to skip app. As I hate it when people do that. Our Surgery shames them by putting the number missed every month. I could cancel that in morning and some grateful person would get it. Agh! Advice please.

Bowerbird5 · 26/11/2019 00:35

Oops that was long sorry. Been on the wine and can’t sleep.

foxessocks · 26/11/2019 07:11

Morning all! Yesterday ds cut one of the foam rollers that go in our sofa with scissors and turned up the heating to 30 degrees , we didn't realise until dd had gone to bed and called out that she'd taken her pyjamas off because she was so hot Shock😂 he's such a mischief!

I don't do an evening routine really because after the dc have gone to bed I tend to stop completely but I suppose I do a version of it after dinner while dh starts getting the dc ready for bed, I tidy dinner things, quick wipe kitchen and table and put toys away. I don't get clothes out because I usually wait to see the weather and my mood in the morning!

Tbh my morning routine gets done as and when as most of the time we are out the door for school in a hurry and then I come back and deal with the mess left behind before I start working or sometimes later in the day if I'm too busy.

My problem is deep cleaning! I'm pretty good at decluttering and tidying but I'm terrible at proper cleaning and I put it off because I hate it. So properly cleaning floors or the oven or scrubbing taps and stuff. I hate it! I keep telling myself I'll be better at it when we get new bathroom / kitchen eventually as ours are all old and don't clean up nice however much effort you put in which is frustrating. I usually get dh to do it as he gets better results but he is worse than me for putting things off!

Hope you all have good days Brew

foxessocks · 26/11/2019 07:14

bower how easy is it to rearrange the scan? Hope you sort something out and you got some sleep!

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 26/11/2019 07:17

Foxes Grin my 11 year old is a bugger for turning the heating up, i keep the thermostat out of reach as our bills are already extortionate!

Baby slept well about 1030-530 on saturday and sunday. Last night that went out the window. He was up til 1130, then up at 2, 4 and 6 Sad feeling a bit zombie like!

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 26/11/2019 07:20

bower i think i would rearrange the appointment as long as it doesnt mean waiting ridiculously long

I think i had a dream about going to the dentist last night... my wisdom tooth has been giving me shit still but i am waiting on a hospital appointment to have it removed, i cant really remember what happened in the dream but i was in a dentist chair and the baby was on the floor Confused

Sistercharlie · 26/11/2019 07:46

Morning all!

Bower If you don't want to cancel appt (I agree it's really bad when people do) then I would turn up very early for scan and see what happens! You might just get lucky and catch the train! Good luck!

Again, I admire how you organise fun bits in amongst Christmas tasks. I'm a bit crap at that.

I don't know why but I have woken up with a sense of dread. I think it's because people who said they weren't coming for Christmas are now doing so and there's a whole other thing going on with dh's family (unexpectedly) this year. It's not that I don't want to see anyone - I do - I just have to shift from "no visitors>easy, fun Christmas" mindset to 'full on>loads of visitors>full works" mind-set. It's a lot of work and this house isn't easy. (You would understand if I could post photos but too outing.). Plus I have bad joint pain atm. Plus I have a list of social obligations as long as my arm, involving school & church volunteering, office, godchildren, friends, and a load of "wife work" to do before I get to Christmas itself. Not to mention the dreaded dossier and 900 tasks related to wreck2 renovation that are all urgent and could easily fill five weeks just by themselves. I dunno. It's all come around too soon again this year!

Part of it is that this is traditionally dh's busiest period (from Sept to Feb) and I can see the strain it puts on him - he was up in the night pacing around and making notes- and it's sort of tense at home as a result. Anyway, anyway, I need to get over myself. It's not as if I am heading down a mine or anything. Small steps and all of that.

Think I am going to take myself off screens for today and and plough on! At least then I don't subject everyone to constant whinging Grin Hope everyone has a good 'un!

Hi thanks. I had a really bad nights sleep couldn’t get to sleep so decided the scan was far more important to have now -thinking what if? I am planning to go in earlier so if I am finished I can catch a later train and meet up with them which I remember D was going to do but I don’t have her number. I know they are going to the Cathedral so if I can get there in time I will see them there and spend the rest of the day. Just depends on how long it takes at the hospital. I can’t believe that I completely forgot about it until yesterday.

It has taken me a long time to learn it SC. I need it more than ever at the moment. I don’t have hoards of visitors either like you do. I don’t know how you cope with them all and the renovating.
