Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

Found more books for Cagletini’s book advent, and a BTS wall sticker for DD1. Paid my therapist for Wednesday.

Now trying to sort the diary.

DH had a big lie in and is now doing some epic tidying. The house was rapidly reaching hovel status.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 24/11/2019 13:33

Living, DD asked for the SNSD Season's Greetings calendar thing and Taeyoen's Purpose album with the whistles and bells! She saw Blackpink when they were here in the summer and Dreamcatcher earlier this month, but remains faithful to the One True Nine (even though I think they're now down to 7!) who were her first KPop love. Don't even mention BTS, they are Not To Be Spoken Of as major bandwagon jumpers. Apparently.

I have tried the fb homeschool groups, but we seem to be in a dead spot - just outside the M25, major grammar school area, so homeschooling is unusual. Kids round here Don't Have SpLDs. Both DC that homeschool are with InterHigh at present (there was no way I was teaching to GCSE for DD, who is Y10) and it's working quite well, but we're still trying to make the process work.

I have rotated the DW and cleared the kitchen, and tried to make a start on sorting out DS#3's dyspraxia support, but it's not going well.

LivingInLaputa · 24/11/2019 14:11

:o DD loves many bands but I’ve not heard her mention all those, I’ll have to ask her! She only got into them properly in June, but now lives and breathes the whole genre. She’s worrying about starting school because some of her friends (mostly those she sees at after school clubs) tease her about it.

Ah that’s hard, home ed really does depend on the area and community. We are quite lucky here (Sussex)... lots of schools who can’t handle SN it seems Hmm

Think I’m getting a migraine. I might try and sleep.

LivingInLaputa · 24/11/2019 14:14

I grew up in a grammar school area (Bromley) and academic schooling was right for me to a point, but heaven help us if we’d still lived there when the Caglets were school age, it just wouldn’t work. DS never wants to go to school, I’m planning to focus more on science when DD goes back as that’s his passion. I’m not sure either would cope with online schooling so our style is “muddle through” :o

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/11/2019 17:38

Laputa there were some great science how things work type books in the works when I pop in yesterday.made me think your da!
As for K-pop.dd2 mates are all into it(except her, she's eclectic mix 80s rock/metal,rap,current musicals and regular pop and touch of relaxing piano concertos!! can't think who she may get her musical taste from Grin)

Ghoulette I did try u tube and Bosch website.ive done all I can it seems to rectify the problem.as was very expensive machine I'm fearful of trying take apart to locate the problem(as I've done with cheaper items in the past)deffo time call in professional reluctantly

Got socks I forgot pick up for myself.hunted Asda George- it seems Xmas pants are no more.ive been buying them for dd1 since 2007(aged 12) but the demise our local m+s made it harder in recent years and last year I found only Matalan and peacock had any that weren't obscene references to being on Santa's naughty list(not a gift from mum option!!)and very limited sizes/stock.looks like we may have reached the end of an era...I did find Xmas socks and bought those, but it's a Xmas tradition now and I was looking forward introducing lil zoo this year(dd2 loved joining aged 12 in this quirky Xmas ritual!and strangely feels quite rebellious wearing them in summerGrin)

Had lunch and spent best part hour listen D's and lil zoo bicker over a dvd choice to watch.in end I lost will to live and put pitch perfect on netflix.ds complain too much music, but did watch it whilst grumbling

Dd1 has swooped in to do an emergency school uniform wash(to be returned later, bless her as 30 mins drive as lives other side of town)socks etc.picked it up en route to a country park to pup walk.

Need do something with kitchen.ive rejig cupboard crates today,so stuff has to sit on top upper cupboard is all plastic tubs etc as there was heavy stuff I found too hard get back up again, and crate sat on surface a week wait for dd2 to help "boost" it back into position!!

To do
Clear surface by toaster
Put last few bits shop away
Make dinner- little ones having jarred vegan green pesto, pasta, green beans and peas with a little cheese.melon and grapes for pud
Dd2 starving having forgotten take anything for breakfast to friends, she remembered cheese and had jacket spud and salad with that last night.she bought vegan sausage roll on travels today as so hungry.not eat dairy cheese has deffo helped her silent reflux, but maybe the fact eats more variety helping too as cheese with pasta is a quick go to and cheese and cracker as snack ..her dinner will be kale and cashew pesto, roasted chickpeas, sweet potato, squash and red peppers.found some raspberry sorbet when sorting the freezer,so she can have some with her melon as "special" pud!

Ghoulette1740 · 24/11/2019 18:07

I've a Bosch too zoo and I totally understand not wanting to tinker with it.

We messed up the Bosch washing machine once when dh put an underwired bra into it. The wire got caught in the rubber and smoke started to billow out of the machine - dh failed to notice despite being in the kitchen. I could smell burning rubber in the rest of the house and followed my nose. He is somewhat unworldly Grin. Anyway had to get a new seal fitted.

I've decided that I'll be Tinselette1940 for Christmas and then back to Lisette1940 for the New Year Grin.

I still haven't organised the German friend's family's box for Christmas. Need to get a move-on.

Just caught up with you all. Hope you’ve all enjoyed your weekends.

SC you sound like such a good hostess, my mouth is watering (at the menu for your visitors and the croissants and orange juice in the naughty corner).

Zoo hope the WM doesn’t prove too costly! I’m hoping I haven’t knackered mine after sticking my king size duvet in it earlier. It’s a 9kg which should just about take one according to google, but the duvet is 13.5tog and there were some dodgy noises.

Welcome Willow. Sounds like you have lots going on at the minute, you can be for forgiven for limited flying.

Yesterday was a very lazy day. After posting I managed another load of washing, put some clean clothes away, and gave the cutlery tray a quick clean while waiting on the kettle to boil. I also managed a bit of online Christmas shopping. That was pretty much it Blush.

Today has been much more productive. Another 4 wash loads (including the duvet after DD had a wee accident).
Both beds changed and bedding washed. Visited family.
Clothes away and a pile ironed.
Downstairs homeblessing.
A few windows cleaned.
Work and nursery clothes and bags are all packed for tomorrow.
Kitchen is clean after DH’s delicious roast. I’ve made a huge pan of soup for lunches through the week, and also a pasta bake for poorly PILs.

Just waiting on DD to cave and fall asleep, then hoping to get some time with DH before one or both of us doze off on the sofa. Hope the rest of you get some chill time too.

TooStressyTooMessy · 24/11/2019 20:16

Cherry waves to everyone!

Nice to hear from you again Shannara and welcome willow Smile. Love your planned name change Ghoulette.

I have reached the end (nearly... once DDs in bed later) of a very busy weekend. I managed to coordinate everything and DDs got all the things they needed to do done. I thought I would feel massively relieved and I do but also feel a bit flat. I have busted my ass this weekend for everyone and have had little thanks, although a bit from DD1 to be fair. Not sure if anyone else can relate. Was so looking forward to relaxing with a glass of wine to congratulate myself, possibly with DH. Not payday yet though and car has a problem with it’s tire which means I will have to take it to the garage tomorrow and then get the bus where I need to go which will at least an hour and £7 to the journey. Ugh. No problem with getting a bus normally but this is really not a convenient location to do that.

So instead when the kids are in bed I am going to sit with a Gin on my own and congratulate myself Grin.

Sorry for the rant.

LivingInLaputa · 24/11/2019 20:37

Doing another nit check on the Caglets Hmm it takes soooo long! But needs to be done regularly.

Haven’t even gathered the stuff for the meeting tomorrow yet. I ended up sleeping off a headache/nausea. DH’s turn to rest now (that’s pretty much how our days are lately, taking turns to rest).

And no we haven’t even started on the clean laundry! Blush

Times10 · 24/11/2019 21:44

Did a bit of tidying up this evening. Still getting tired really quickly, so I thought the most I could do tonight, the less I need to do tomorrow.
Need to write a list for tomorrow so I stop wasting time and energy.

laputa urg, I dread the nits. I used to get them all the time as a child, so dreading the DCs catching them!

toostressy I know the feeling, it’s disheartening when your efforts go unacknowledged (sp?) I keep having to remind the family of the work I’ve done, and makes me wonder why I bother.

cluck good job with all the jobs you’ve done this weekend!

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 24/11/2019 23:32

Washing machine woes here today too, I did a load last night and left it in the machine, went to get it out this morning, soaking wet. Did a spin cycle which worked but made funny noises and put another load on which took double the normal time and still didn't spin. DH offered to clean the filter while I took DS to football. I came home and he told me gallons of water had gushed out (luckily we have lino over concrete floor not wood) and he had found dozens of curtain hooks jamming up the filter. Which is because a few months ago he took the curtains down and washed them when the new windows were fitted. I remember noticing there were a couple of hooks in them when I ironed them and assuming he'd just missed taking a few off. Wrong! No wonder I couldn't find them when I came to rehang the curtains. So, its working again now. Hope yours gets sorts ok Zoo ours is a Bosch too and a very good machine.

Shannara - thanks re PIP, birthday isn't for a few weeks so I will wait. I wasn't sure how it worked. Good luck with your form. Are you sorting out a 6th form/college place too? Its a lot to think about alongside GCSEs.

Quite a productive day. All floors upstairs tidied, some areas hoovered (everyone supposed to be doing their own room). Washing all dry and ironed eventually. Kitchen floor very clean (thanks DH!). Living room hoovered. Lasagne for dinner. Tax return started.

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/11/2019 05:33

stressyanother one who totally relates to feelings of why bother no one noticed/appreciates my efforts.hope you enjoyed theGin
Laputa nits were the bane of my existence when zoolets in primary.dd2 had them pretty much constantly reception-year 4.nitty gritty comb and lashing conditioner were my life!

Dd2 had fab time at friends.bought red dress for the party on saturday.she looks so grown up in it ifelt like I could burst pride and sadness

Mad week ahead,D's safeguarding visit from school this afternoon.i need ring repairman for wash machine and living room/kitchen in desperate need some proper cleaning!

Best go start, kits yowling for breakfast!!

HungryHazelEyes · 25/11/2019 06:27

Hello willow, welcome to the thread.

So I had planned on doing lots of flying today, I started in the kitchen, moving some things around to make more counter space. While I was getting ready for the day (hair, makeup etc) I got a phone call - can I go into work. So I spent the next (almost) 5 hours at work! I did get grocery shopping done and made dinner once home and got my ironing done. Although I put my back out just before leaving work so took a bath to try to soothe it, no luck Sad hopefully it's better in the morning.

Tomorrow night is my rest night, as Tuesday and Wednesday I'll be making some pies to be ready for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 25/11/2019 06:42

Anyone bank with HSBC?

If so i would like to warn you they have changed how they show your balance online. I did not know this and almost had a heart attack around half an hour ago .....

Your overdraft used to be included in your available balance but now is not. You still have the overdraft but they are trying to teach you its not your own money and stop people living in it like me

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 25/11/2019 07:11

Lloyds are doing the same Ive - my app has got a message on it.

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 25/11/2019 07:38

I might have had a message im not sure. However i was not prepared for that at 6am Shock took me a while to realise i cant have spent THAT much on christmas presents

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/11/2019 09:24

Thanks for the warning Ive! I will check my bank. I had been trying to cut down on spending this month, then trying to at least not spend a ridiculous amount of money, now with possibly needing a new tire the week before payday I have given up on this month.

Ta da:-
Car at garage
Have realised bus journey will cost slightly less than I thought so at least that is £1 saved.
Am on the bus now. Going to try to be productive and go through my emails etc and double check where I need to be once I finally get there.

Thanks for the understanding for my whingy post yesterday Flowers.

Hope your back feels better soon hazel (or do you prefer Hungry?).

Ugh nits. They really are despicable things Angry.

Thanks for links Ghoulette.

Catch you all later.

Bowerbird5 · 25/11/2019 09:41

Morning.
Tried catching up on your threads so have read the last two pages.

Zoo what a pain. Hope WM can be mended soon.i have Mount Washmore today which is unusual. Need to do about three loads and bed needs changing though I might leave that until tomorrow.
Busy weekend. I decluttered a lot. Like you zoo sorting pull outs from magazines. Found some lovely recipes. Found Christmas ideas hoping to do some of those. Trimmed them so they will go in the A 4boxes I have hidden under sofa. I vacuumed under there on Saturday. Niece came on Sunday so DH took her walking. I was at Mass and then choir. Oh our singing was so good today even our conductor was surprised. We did get a few bits wrong first. Only one practice left before concerts.😳 posting.

Bowerbird5 · 25/11/2019 09:53

I still have the Room of Doom to finish. Plan to do it this afternoon. Going for compost for bulbs which I still haven’t planted yet. Might need to buy some more as the Range had 3 for £5.

Plan to run around sitting room shortly. It shouldn’t take all week as I have been keeping on top of it. Then the rest of the week will be R of D and boudoir which has boxes and baskets from R of D in it. So solving one problem should solve the other.

Waves to all fledglings and leaves🥞🥞🥞🥞🥞🥯🥐🥐🥐In naughtycorner. Don’t know where the boys are please pass them on to someone else today then send back to me on Wednesday when Mt. Washmore should be demolished.
Off to whizz around then out to Garden Centre. Haven’t been for ages and they have Christmas goodies and crafty bits ( downstairs) may need to go to toilet to shake off DH so I can sneak down there. I need more ink but I will try to resist anything else.

Bowerbird5 · 25/11/2019 09:54

Ya didn’t lose posts.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 25/11/2019 10:20

Morning all! Have realised this morning that a lot of the problem is that I don't have a morning routine anymore. I'm in "respond" mode from the moment I get out of bed, and I do things as they occur to me, or as they become unavoidably necessary. This is why I've been up since 6.30 but have only just eaten, I'm dressed but not washed (which I hate, but I had to take WillowHound out) and I've still not had my meds.

Can I count a mostly clean kitchen and the DW on again as a ta da? I have buckets of reading to do for supporting the various DC, a menu to plan for all meals (nutritional issues are part of the support) based on what's in the house already, and some paid client writing to fit in today, as well as driving homework this afternoon (DC4 learns online in the mornings) and I have to remember to get to the dentist for 11, 25 minutes away.

I have to go back to first principles, don't I? That's why this is all falling to bits.

TooStressyTooMessy · 25/11/2019 10:30

I think you can definitely count that two ta das Willow Grin. Yes I think the before bed and morning routine are the most important really as Flylady says. She says before bed routine most important but for me it is a morning routine. What helps me on the days where I do not want to think too much or don’t have time is a check list (use the Home Routines app but you could use anything or I believe Flylady herself has an app?) so I can make sure I don’t miss anything. Of course this requires me looking at the list Hmm.

Have made it to my appointment - early but that is best with these things - so will give it ten minutes then let them know I’m here. On the plus side having to take the bus means I found it goes past a really good and fairly cheap cinema which I never usually go to as it is out of the way. So that is something to remember for the school summer holidays.

I love a garden centre at Christmas Bower Smile.

Cherry waves to everyone else.
