Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

Yes it is supposed to be a craft room. It was nearly sorted then DD and DH have been dumping stuff in there. I ‘m not sure what or where it has come from. The books and some of the stuff is from school. Plan to make my bed this morning and bring some of it in to dump on the bed then i can sort through it. The costumes are because I forgot until the night before and had to quickly find something so that mess is mine.

Well done on tree ordering sc

Foxes shop and scan give LOTS of warnings before they chuck you off

The head ache is all gone thank god but i am still full of a cold

Baby was up ALOT mainly because Boots nappies are BOLLOCKS Angry

Sistercharlie · 15/11/2019 09:13

Strong Brew for I've (with honey and lemon).

We were all late up. Furries slept in! Shock. DD only just made it to school in time.

Has anyone got the pointy stick? Cleaner has the flu and has cancelled. She is still very distressed too poor woman. Need to get down to some deep!y boring tidying and cleaning today - carrying heavy things up and down endless staircases - without getting distracted.

Also have one of those vague arrangements hanging over my head ie people may possibly be coming to tea or maybe not, which is a pain, because if they aren't then I can really get stuck in a lot more with the choring. If they are then I need to bake and clean downstairs which doesn't need as much attention as upstairs ifyswim.

^Above is the perfect illustration of how I dither and "talk" my way out of facing the mess btw! " Oh well, my objectives weren't clear. Oh well, it's not my fault peop!e haven't let me know. Oh well, blah, blah, blah." Ending up with not having done either option! When all I need to do is get on with it! Grrrrrrrr!

KTCluck · 15/11/2019 09:46

Here’s a pointy stick SC —>. I need it straight back to prod myself when I’ve finished my tea and toast. Can you not ask them to confirm plans this morning so you know either way?

My day off has started quite productively. DD dressed and deposited at nursery, did some exercise, showered and dressed to slippers shoes, cats fed, beds made, DW emptied, load in WM, pile of crap carried upstairs.

Now time to face today’s epic to do list:

  • Home blessing
  • Any relevant missions from the week
-Vacuum under cushions of sofas as we are getting them professionally cleaned and they are mortifyingly crumby
  • Sort out cupboard of doom, including sorting out unwanted tree and decorations to give to a family friend, due her baby in a few weeks and just moving into her own place this week. She’s desperate to have a tree bless her.
  • Clean a few mouldy patches that are appearing at the front of the house. We are right on the sea front and get the odd patch when it’s cold and miserable. Nothing too horrendous thankfully as long as we stay on top of them.
  • Library books back
  • Letters posted
  • email company about an incorrect delivery
  • parcel to return
  • write to do list for Christmas prep.
  • arrange fitting of winter tyres.
  • half an hour ironing
  • order new storage for DD’s room in preparation for the inevitable deluge.

I’m sure there are some bits I’m forgetting too.

So on that note, last few gulps of tea and I’m off...

TooStressyTooMessy · 15/11/2019 10:15

Hello all! Welcome to newbies. Weather very bad here with rain. We are not flooded round here but a lot of the roads are and nearby towns and villages have proper flooding Sad. Really scary stuff at times. Hospital very busy.

I am off today thankfully and someone has just come to repair our tumble drier which is an excellent ta da.

To do:-
Laundry is everywhere!
Make tea (spaghetti bolognese)
Physio exercises

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 15/11/2019 10:38

KT i have been cleaning odd mouldy patches this week too!

SC it would drive me bloody loopy not knowing if someone was coming or not Angry

Ta da

School run and shit
Washer on
Dryer on
Dry washing sorted
Picked up bits from shop
Pots washed
Bottles washed and sterilised

Bowerbird5 · 15/11/2019 12:18

Yeah GP said they would help with my back/neck pain which might have been keeping me awake some of the time. I had written my car off and had bad whip lash as I hit the pole of a sign when I skidded on black ice.

Went to bed at silly o’clock and woke up very early then after an hour went back to sleep and slept in.

Plan to start room of doom. Do one hour in there and if I can find the
Stamps then I will start the cards.i might need to have a visit to the Range. I’m not sure if I have the right colour ink. Ooh I have just had inspiration as to where they are.

KTCluck · 15/11/2019 13:14

Pleased we aren’t the only slightly mouldy household Ive.

Good luck with the room of doom bower. I’ve been putting that cupboard off for a while but it’s done! (I’m going to attempt to attach a before and after shot). The box and bag in the left are the tree and surplus decorations already to go. The original state of it is down to DH lobbing everything and anything in. But now everything is accessible and the mouldy bits of cat food (also DH) are no more. Had a bit of an incident knocking a full bag of cat food over but got that sorted before the cats gorged themselves, and the bags have been re-homed back to where they were before DH moved them

Winter tyres are partially sorted, letters and library books gone, been to the shop, and I’ve also ordered my turkey!

Stopping for lunch (pie from the butchers) then

-tackle the sofas, mouldy patches and home blessing / missions

  • parcel, storage ordering and email still to do
  • Christmas to do list to write. This will obviously need to start with ‘order turkey’ and ‘sort decorations’ which will then get big fat ticks Grin
  • ironing

Going back to it in 10 I promise!

Ooh yes we need to do a mould check around windows actually. We have taken the lovely newish house for granted too long lately.

Lego club done. Had breakfast with my friend and chatted as usual. She’s back later to take us to Scouts for DS to try it! So excited for him!

I’m excited as DD has a school place it seems! Senco rang today, there’s a bit of a question over whether we do need an EHCP before she starts or not, basically there’s two halves to the support unit and they aren’t sure if the non-EHCP side would be sufficient for her. We chatted a bit but have agreed to meet ASAP, our family support worker is hoping to join us too (she’s worked with this senco before and seems to approve! Our FSW actually used to be a senco herself so she knows her stuff). Eeeek!

ChicCroissant · 15/11/2019 14:59

I've got a Christmas-scented candle out today and put it on a wooden tray with gold-painted wooden flowers and pine cones around it decorative items pulled from last year's door wreath so I'm glad it's not just me feeling Christmassy!

Will catch up on the mould thread properly later, DD has just had her brace tightened - rigid wires for the first time which are more painful. She's had paracetamol and is toughing it out, bless her! I need to nip out to the shops 'cos I've not done anything properly today and get the bits for tomorrow's breakfast.

Exciting news, Laputa, is your DD excited too? A big change for you all but I hope it goes well.

LivingInLaputa · 15/11/2019 15:42

Thank you yes I think she’s sort of bemused, I am actually more excited than her at this point! Maybe the nerves are setting in.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 15/11/2019 15:46

What year will she be in laputa? Does she know anyone at the school?

Chic i have xmas flash spray, zoflora and washing up liquid 🌲 i need a candle wonder if i have one anywhere

LivingInLaputa · 15/11/2019 16:02

Year 8, and no not really. Most of her old classmates went to a particular school near our old house and for a while she was determined to go there but luckily when she saw this other one, and the much much better SN support (she will mostly not be in mainstream classes) she actually was really excited about it. I’m so relieved because TBH I think it is better to have a fresh start, she’s got loads of friends out of school anyway and generally does make friends quite quickly. Fingers crossed!

Bowerbird5 · 15/11/2019 18:53

Great news Laputa sounds the better option. It is sometimes hard to return we have had lots of boomerang babies.

Well I have done just about zilch flying. Things didn't pan out as expected.
Getting up late is not a good move.

So I S&S in bathroom and made my bed.Went to GP to pick up sick note. We also went out to see the joiners who made the summer house as the door swelled a bit in summer and hasn't returned to normal which means the door doesn't shut properly. Bumped into the lads and had a lovely chat with them. First thing they wanted to know was were the neighbours speaking to us.They couldn't believe it when we said no. They are really glad we are enjoying it and are going to come next week or week after to take a little bit off so it shuts for winter. I ma going to make some cake so they can have a relax in it. We then went for lunch as the family have a converted barn and serve delicious homemade food. DH had a Christmas Bagette £?and I had scrambled egg and smoked salmon on a big bagel £4-50.
Didn't have room for cake and they usually have DFree, vegan and GF there.Lovely tea too you get a pot so more than one cup. They are have a Winter Wonderland with an ice rink and independent craft stalls.
We then went to M&S. DH wanted to go elsewhere but I thought M&S closer and Hobbycraft next doorGrin
So then I had to do phone call to work. Then Junior Bake Off was on so a cup of tea and a Welsh scone to watch that. DH has gone for a pint and I am thinking about room of gloom. I foolishly thought we would be out for two hours max. As we live in the country it is travel time as much as anything.
I got some card making stuff for Christmas cards but still want to make the one I can't find so going to do half an hour now and then 1 1/2hrs tomorrow.
Also getting Christmassy feeling. DH said today he can't wait till it is over! Bah Humbug! I want to get out some unfinished and never started projects for making next week.

Great flying KTC

TooStressyTooMessy · 15/11/2019 19:13

Hi all. I agree Bower, it definitely feels Christmassy now!

Just waiting to pick up DD2 from an activity. We have a quiet weekend planned so DH and I are hoping we can do some Christmas organising and pin down some present ideas.
Exciting news about school Laputa!

Big wing flaps to everyone else.

KTCluck · 15/11/2019 19:52

I’m also feeling festive. Inspired by Ive, the Christmas songs have been on all day.

I got most of my list done so I’m happy with that. Didn’t do any ironing but there was nothing that urgently needed doing so will have a go at that on Sunday.

I wouldn’t feel too bad about not tackling the room of doom today bower, it sounds like you’ve had a lovely day and I’m sure flylady agrees that it’s important to do things you enjoy. There’s always tomorrow. Whenever I’m struggling to get started with something I always force myself just to do 5 minutes. 9 times out of 10 that’s enough to get properly going with it and then I don’t actually want to stop at the end of the 5 minutes. The getting started is always the hard part! Mind it’s a massive weight off my mind getting my cupboard sorted and it was amazing how much I got done in an hour. You’ll feel so pleased when you do get going with it.

Is it likely to be the new term after Christmas your DD starts Laputa? Exciting for her!

LivingInLaputa · 15/11/2019 20:16

Not really sure to be honest! DH would rather she waited until after Christmas but I think if she can start sooner it would be better and get that initial “OMG” out of the way. It will be a very gradual start anyway. Just got to wait until we see the Senco, I have ten days to prepare for that.

ChicCroissant · 16/11/2019 15:16

Afternoon fledglings! Taken DD to morning activity, had medium-sized toffe nut latte from Starbucks, smidgeon of washing-up done and one load of laundry not hung up yet and run the dishwasher - that is the sum total so far. Considering going to a Christmas Fair this afternoon, and have an activity planned for tomorrow afternoon as well. Some of the Christmas/birthday stuff I've ordered is starting to arrive as well and DD's brace - although painful - has improved a bit today and she's eating better than I thought she would be at this stage. She has additional bits of metalwork which are going to be trickier to clean round (not sure of the proper name for them).

Laputa I think it would be better to start ASAP gradually and work up to whatever the long-term plan is, that way if it is really tiring at the start you've got the break over Christmas to recover. Sometimes they do fun stuff before Christmas as well.

Strictly is at Blackpool tonight, always a good show and then DD will want to watch the saga that is Simon Cowell's latest production whilst using the app that would only download to my phone and not hers Hmm

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 16/11/2019 15:29

Very quiet on here today

Oldest two dc have been told their rooms are being deep cleaned one today and one tomorrow. I will help but i am not doing it myself. Little two are sleeping so in i go!

LivingInLaputa · 16/11/2019 19:27

It is rather quiet isn’t it.

I’ve done lots of laundry today and also finished my therapy homework which was meant to just be doodling on a worksheet but I ran with it and did my own drawing instead.

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/11/2019 20:31

I'd go with start sooner Laputa and ease in before xmas.how does D's feel about her "leaving him" and returning to school?sparked any interest for him or is he happy to continue HE?

Dd1 took dd2 college visit today as I had D's to look after.then they spent day together, which included having laugh at hers, take pup to groomer, lunch and then all of us walk him over nature reserve.his first proper walk in a park type space he was so excited by the other dogs.a few older ones were like wtaf when he try jump on them tail wagging and excitedly barking and he looked very startled when one sniffed his bumGrin

need seriously pull up my big girl pants tomorrow and suck it up.place descending into mess, need food shop and self care- ate bread, toast and cheese today (in my defence supplies are low) ...tomorrow's another day and all that

If DS swore he’d say fuck no 😂 he has zero intention of going back.

I do wonder a little if he will get a bit lonely especially as we are hoping Cagletini can do some nursery sessions when her 2yr funding kicks in next term. But I feel like it will be easier to fix that because he’s a much easier child in some ways, he’s easier to entertain so we will add in things like board game time. I have plans about other group activities like parkour he can do and for meet-ups/joint learning with some of his friends. It’s been so hard trying to balance their needs that I’m actually looking forward to getting the chance to just focus on him TBH 😳
