Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

Yup ive I've looked on Argos but didn't find anything , no clue what to get really! What did you get?!
Amazon have a sale I think too, got ds the vtech camera he wants for £24 which is a bargain, I was going to get them second hand but they sell for about that on eBay anyway. Just need to find the pink one at a similar price for dd. (Not stereotypically at all Grin tbf she'd be happy with blue but I need to tell them apart!!)

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 09/11/2019 08:10

I got a toot toot racing set, two big puzzles, two boardgames, a scooter, a kids knex set and a crayola art case plus a random picture hanging set i need. With the 20% code and some vouchers i had for spending so much previously it came to about £90 actual money.

Dc4 (just turned 3) is VERY into his super hereos. Is your ds? He had the spiderman plane thing for his birthday which has been a big hit and some spiderman duplo

Completely get what you mean re colour coding to tell apart. Dds fave colour is blue but she always gets stuck with pink because shes the only girl Blush

Times10 · 09/11/2019 08:20

No flying yesterday at all, and the house shows it!
I did have a nap though, after the morning school run.

Ta-da’s for today so far
Dishwasher on
Wash on
Cleaned kitchen counters
Quick sweep of kitchen floors
Hand washed what didn’t go in dishwasher
Bins emptied and food caddy rinsed

No Christmas ideas yet in this household! Actually I do want to get more craft supplies/play doh for the DCs, and the book fair is coming to school this week, so I might see if we can get them each a book (although I don’t know how to do it without them seeing me buying them, so might not work)
And DC1 needs a new dressing gown. Apart from that, no ideas! I really need to get them to rid of some toys, as we just don’t have space for new ones at the moment.

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/11/2019 09:02

Ooh I need to look at Argos then, thank you! I know Bower, why do we stay up?!! I have basically started the day an hour later than I wanted to now because I didn’t go to bed on time. Never mind, I am up and going now.

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/11/2019 09:06

zoo, thanks for your support (and everyone else’s on here Smile) about my parents Flowers. I’ll report back in December! Also at the risk of talking about medical things which I try not to do too much on here... please do go back to your doctor / nurse about the reflux. It’s important to control it as much as possible or at least get it looked at - I know you know this but just a general prod to look after yourself. Great news about DS!

foxessocks · 09/11/2019 13:24

I've yes my ds also into superheroes! He loves Spiderman and the Hulk. Might look into this Spiderman plane...

The dc have only really asked for the cameras and dd wants a recorder, ds wants a drum kit 🙈 might look on Argos for that I saw an advert for one...but oh the noise!

foxessocks · 09/11/2019 13:26

Hmm the Argos drum kit was definitely for older kids actually! I don't want one that big!

Bowerbird5 · 09/11/2019 13:32

Agree with Toostressy Zoo. You need to look after yourself as you are the kingpin in your family. You know and we know you can't rely on your (D) P.
I don't know why I stayed up.Tired now but soldiering on. Was up about the same time as you as needed to take cat to vet. Ear yukky again so more drops and asked to worm her while there. £48 lighter! She was very good and they all fell in love with her.Vet can't believe she is as old as she is.DD must have told them as I am not sure. She has a young cat face. She has forgiven me and is lying by the fire.I put more logs on and cleaned hearth and glass so looks lovely now.Brushed cat so she also looks lovely.

Dishwasher loaded at 2am

Ingredients for CC 3 weighed and just need DH to bring back butter.

Desperate to use stick vacuum and did sitting room and stairs in under five minutes, before vet visit.Just a practice run but wow it is so light for the stairs, need to do a proper thorough go but so far so good.Love it.

Going to do bedroom rug then wooden floor. Need to dust.
Need to declutter hallway and ask DH to put Christmas stuff up the loft which seems daft because back down soon.It is stuff he missed last year. Annoying as I have asked.
Need to do shower screen and wash floor. The rest is quite tidy.
Dishwasher needs to go on.
Tempted to have a nap this afternoon.

Waves to all and just to say at least no toys will be coming into this house.

Zoo that is amazing. Great news. Your church seems to be very forward thinking regarding MH support. Ours fed kids in half term isn't that awful to think it is needed. We have been doing Food Bank before it became fashionable to do so.

KTCluck · 09/11/2019 13:41

Happy Saturday everyone!

Ta da list:
2 loads washing
DW set off after a relaxed breakfast together
Did the under sink and pantry missions, plus a thorough clean of the hob
Downstairs vacuumed and mopped
Downstairs dusted
Kitchen window cleaned
Carried piles of stuff downstairs and piles of stuff upstairs and put them away.

We’ve had an easy lunch of fishfingers, potato waffles and beans at DD’s request. Now enjoying a laze on the sofa hoping DD might have a nap. It’s not looking likely. I’m feeling a bit guilty that we haven’t done anything nice with DD today, as we usually try and get out and about on a Saturday. She didn’t want to go out earlier though, and we’ll probably go to the park later. DH has suggested dinner at the local Italians. No arguments from me.

Thanks for the heads up on the Argos discount Ive. I’m trying to be restrained and think I’m finished for DD, but have a few younger family members to sort so I’ll look there.

KTCluck · 09/11/2019 13:42

Glad your unexpected visitors had good news for you zoo

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/11/2019 14:48

bower ours has been collecting for food bank for years too

We currently have an amazing lady vicar that is breathing life into a very very aged community by offering Sunday school and children's choir.the community cafe(open Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday mornings) was her baby on the back of an open day and questionnaire asking non church members of the community what they would like church to offer.
There's a thriving youth group on Wednesdays now in conjunction with local community beat officer, which is great as the kids are growing up knowing our "local Bobby"(as it were) and as we are classed as deprived area it gives them something to do other than hang on street corners and get into trouble!!
The well being cafe which runs arts and crafts in Tuesday cafe session goes from strength to strength and there's talk opening it on Thursday session too

Brick church is brain child of local curate,as our church operates as part of a local trio which means they have a higher amount of diocese budget working together, she is based at one of the other churches and she's got a young family and is a massive advocate of SEN inclusion due to her own son having ASD.unusually that church also has a female reverend,so we have three ladies predominantly running the parish!!(3rd church lost its male rev two years ago,and now has just guest vicars as the group's run themselves and it's quite a small community.they do join us for group church and various group ventures)

I've had a lovely walk to Morrison's and taken advantage of autism hour this morning(quiet checkouts and dimmed lights) meaning D's was much less stressed and I got pick up bits and bobs that I only find there.it was a touch foggy and oh so crisp out earlier- bracing my mother would've called it,but beautiful as crossing local nature reserve was stunning.autumnal trees lift my soul, such colour!!
Anyways shop done, two loads wash done
Lunch and I've fell asleep for a bit whilst little ones were watching the dark crystal(I often nod off when we watch TV)
Lil zoo in lots pain having try eat larger lunch on back not wanting breakfastmight see if I can find a hot water bottle for her to cuddle up to

Talking of cuddling up.mr scoutcat has declared too cold to hold his sulk about sharing house with the girl cats and has made his superiority known by taking up residence on dd2 -theyre both stretched out on one sofa together having a love in(whilst girl cats now sulking upstairs that he's indoors)

ChicCroissant · 09/11/2019 14:48

That explains the queue in the local Argos inside Sainsbury's this morning then, IVE - I was wondering if there was something on!

Few more bags out the door this morning, as I mentioned on the house Princessing thread I've got a couple more piles of books left to go, but got a few more bags out this morning. Hardly made a dent but it does give me a sense of success however deluded so I can recommend it!

Planning to have an ironing binge while DD watches Simon Cowell's latest programme tonight. That would really help, before the upstairs bannister collapses under the weight of the ironing pile!

zoo fantastic news about the support for DS, I do hope it all works out well for you. You could really do with a break and I agree with the others, you do need to look after yourself as well there.

Very grey here today, we have all the rain. A good day to be sorting the house out really if only I was actually doing that and I'm looking forward to Strictly tonight.

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/11/2019 14:56

Just having a bit of downtime after dancing. Need to force girls to start homework in a bit. The item I wanted is out of stock for home delivery and click and collect closer to me so need to decide if it’s worth going to a further away Argos. Should have ordered earlier Angry.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 09/11/2019 15:03

Ordered another present for dc4, something i had been searching for and requested an alert when came into stock at the entertainer, got alert so snapped it up! Ordered a board game and two craft sets for cousins to make cost up for free delivery!

I have my eye out for a basic laptop and either an xbox one or a ps4. I think black friday is my best friend with this though!

Ta da

Wash on x2
Dryer on
Dry washing sorted
Living room 2 tidy
Living room 2 swept
Kitchen swept
Pots washed
Bottles washed and sterilised
Dc3 & 4 homework supervised

Sistercharlie · 09/11/2019 15:20

Hi all, just posting this while Internet on: Zoo that is so great about ds and the educational support etc! Really brilliant news! Well done to the lady vicars! And brilliant about autism hour too!

Great lists everyone - great decluttering going on here!

All this talk of Christmas present buying is making me nervous though; I am short on inspiration this year! Getting behind! Also have half the budget I normally do, owing to building work. Not a good combo! Everything so expensive here.

Waves to all

LivingInLaputa · 09/11/2019 18:37

I renewed my spirit a day early by going to a board game day. The hall was very cold though so I’m considerable pain now (not helped by AF arriving early too 😡)

I also collected my meds this morning! I didn’t want to risk taking them for the first time when I’d be stuck in a hall with strangers (didn’t even have my phone) so I’m starting them tomorrow.

Hi all! As usual life has taken over this week and parents evening and observations have meant life has been manic, I haven't managed to keep up with the thread and flying has been limited 🙄

But it is the weekend so I have tried to jump back in. Dp and I sorted ds4 toys after his 1st birthday on Tuesday led to a massive influx. I have caught up on 3 loads of washing. Dp has washed and steamed the floors and the dc have tidied their rooms so things are slightly more organised.

I am currently colouring my hair as the grey roots were getting out of control so I am going to use the tine catching up on the thread. After I need to take ds1 to get some new school shoes as he has taken the toes out of his and then it is my nieces birthday party this afternoon. I will hopefully be back later to post something resembling a tada list. Sorry for being so rubbish at keeping up with you all, I will try harder.

Bowerbird5 · 10/11/2019 10:08

Morning,
Got everything done bar the decluttering. I did manage to make Christmas Cake 3 even DH commented on continual baking. I think it is because I want to get through the bags of fruit etc.i have kept them in a shopping bag so easy access and when I have a spare minute in the kitchen I start weighing out fruit. I have two more to do. DS1 came
Yesterday and his was out. DH told him and said he was delighted. I am going to make mincemeat later or tomorrow.
Love the new stick vacuum but unusually I didn’t read instructions and had it on super suck for the floor boards( there’s gaps) and stairs and discovered it only has 6 minutes on that. It is great for carrying up and down and I did the curtains too.
I cleaned the shower after DH in the afternoon so just floor to wash in there.
Right need to jump up for Mass. not flying much today because it is the Lord’s day of rest and mine too! Will pop back later.

Sistercharlie · 10/11/2019 10:59

Wow! Well done Bower re: thé Christmas cakes. That's really impressive!

Mercury You are mahoosively busy as ever. You deserve a Halo and a large Gin !

Waves to Laputa and Ghoulette and everyone else.

Everything a bit crap here. Builders have damaged electrics. Electricity keeps going off and have had to chuck all food from freezer and fridge because can't be sure it hasn't frozen and frozen again . Phone cable down. TV off. Have fire but heating on and off and its freezing. Internet intermittent.
Dd (understandably) a pissed off (she has a ton of school work) and making her feelings known. We will going back to town soon Sad despite public holiday here tomorrow.

On a positive front: new country cleaner has been, and I can relax in the knowledge she will be back in a fortnight so no massive rushed clean to do on departure. Just need to tidy for her. There is beautiful sunshine. And I saw dhorse last night after church, he was lying down and stretching out ecstatically in deep comfy bed Grin (he is in at night now) . Chopping wood atm and clearing massive cobwebs and organising wood pile to fill the time before I can go and see him again. First rule of the countryside: never disturb farmers on a Sunday morning!

Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]
Sistercharlie · 10/11/2019 11:09

Moody photo was from yesterday evening btw!

ChicCroissant · 10/11/2019 13:06

Don't worry about catching up Mercury and a belated happy birthday from me for your DS earlier this week!

Good luck with the meds Laputa, hope it goes OK.

Not done much this morning, have been shopping, cooked breakfast and washed up. Considering going out for coffee but judging by the way everyone is slumped in chairs may not be likely. OTOH if I remind DD about her outstanding homework then she'll be up like a flash!

Back later ....

Bowerbird5 · 10/11/2019 13:56

SC lovely mood photo.

Laputa What was the drawings that you were doing? Was it in a book because I saw one on Friday at the local museum? One is drawings and another craft, drawing and painting. I think I will put it on my Christmas List.I don"t usually make one but I have suggested it this year.
